batteries,insulatetheirterminalswithadhesivetape,etc.Otherwise,theresidualelectricityin
usedbatteriesmay causefireorexplosion.

Ø Always use VOYAGERreplacementpartsandaccessories.Using otherpartsandaccessories
otherthanrecommendedbyBHM/SUNRISE couldaffectsecurityandefficiency oftheentire
system. SUNRISE VOYAGERslingsandpatientliftaccessoriesarespecificallydesignedtobe
usedinconjunctionwithBHMpatienttransferaids.Slingandaccessories designedbyother
manufacturesarenottobeusedasacomponentofVOYAGERpatienttransfersystems.

1.Installthepatient sling(seesling installation)
2.Takethebatteryoutofthe chargerand
insertitintothelift.Makesurethe silver
contactpointsgoinsidethelift.
Oncethe patientslingisinstalled,unwind the
strap.Therearetwoways tounwindthe strap:
First, youcan pressthebutton while
holding tensionon the strapwiththeother
hand (theremustbetension onthestrapfor
thelifttofunction).
Theotherwaytodo thisis
tousethe"QUICK-
RELEASE";Pushtheknob
(1)and pullthestrap outof
thelift(2).
Pushknobcompletelyoverto
ensuretheQUICK-RELEASE will
workproperly.
QUICK-RELEASE willnotworkif
thereistensiononthestrap.
Makesurethestraphassome
slackinitbeforeattemptingto
slidetheknobover.

3.Attachtheroundhooktothe trolleyinthe
track.

Inserttheroundhookintotheloopof the arm
extension#A8300(1),thenhookittothe
trolleyinthetrack (2).
4.Movethe lift overtothe patient.
Holdtheliftwithonehandatall
timeswhennearapatient.
5.Lowertheliftbelowthechinbefore
beginningtoattachtheslingstraps(thisis
toavoidthe risk of facialcontactcaused by
movement ofthelift).
Forapatient inalyingposition,lowerthelift
nearthethorax,andtheninstallthestraps.
6.Attachthestrapsofthe sling asdescribed
inthesling attachmentinstructionsforthe
slingtobe used. (Seeslinginstallation)
7.Liftthepatientslightlybypressingthe
controlbutton.
BEFORE LIFTINGTHEPATIENT:
1.Makesurethatall strapsare
attachedtothecarrybar.
2.Makesurethepatient'sarms
aresafelyoutoftheway.
3.Makesuretheslingisnot
caughtonanobstruction
(wheelchairbrake orarmof
chair).

patientimmediatelyandcorrectthe

Feature
The VoyagerPortablehasanemergency
manual-loweringfeatureintheeventofan
electricalorfunctionalfailure.
Ifthe liftmalfunctionswhenapatientisbeing
transferred,theemergencymanuallowering
deviceprovidesasafewayofloweringthe
patientontoachairorbed.
Tooperatetheemergencyloweringfeature:
1.Findthe rubberstopperandlabelon theside
ofthe lift.
2.Pullthe rubberstopperoutoftheVoyager
Portablecasing–DONOTDISCARD.
3.Movethe patient overabed orchair.
4.UsingtheAllenkeyprovided withthis
manual,turnthe keyclockwisetolowerthe
patientintothe chair.Asthekeyturnsthe
motordirectly,eachkeyturnwillmovethe
patientslightly.
Tolowerthe patientmorequickly,usea
powerdrill witha4mmAllen keybit.

damage the finish.
DONOTimmerselift inwater.
Toensureabetterrollingsurfaceforthetrolley
wheels,clean theinsideofthetrack every4
months.Todoso,insertadampclothinthe
opening andslide itfromoneend ofthe track to
the other.
Alwaysreplace railendstopper
(iftheyhave beenremoved)after
servicing.
6.3Strap Inspection
Thisequipmentisbuiltwithastrapthatcan
withstandaloadof1364kg(3000 lbs.)
Nonetheless,ifthisstrapisdamaged orshows
signsofwear,theacceptableloadonthestrap
beforerupturecandroprapidlyand presenta
dangerforthe patientorcaregiver.
BHMMedicalrecommendsthoroughly
inspectingthe strapevery2monthsasfollows:
1.Completelyunwind thestrap.
2.Lookforanysignsofwear.

6.4HandlingandStorage
Avoidviolent shockduring transportation.
The liftshouldnotremainstored forlong periods
of timewithout recharging thebatteries.
BHMMedicalrecommends
chargingofbatteriesatleast
everytwoweekseveniftheliftis
notused.Thiswill prevent
prematureaging ofbatteries.
6.5BatteryReplacement
BHMusessealed lead-acidbatteries.Contrary
tonickel-cadmium,BHMbatteriesdonothave
anymemoryeffect.Therefore,batteriesshould
notbecompletelydrainedbeforerecharge.
Replacethe batterywhenit hasbeendropped or
ifthereisanoticeablereduction inthenumberof
transfersthatcanbeperformed between
charges.Ifyou noticetheVoyagerPortable
“beeping’–seetheinstructionsin
“Troubleshooting”sectiontoensureitisa
problemwiththebattery.
Toreplaceabattery,contactyourlocaldealeror
representativeandorderproduct #A8500.

6.6ChargerFuse Replacement
(Charger#A8200 only)
Ifthechargerlightdoesnotilluminatewhen
thereisabatteryinit, dothefollowingsteps:
1.Makesurethebatteryisproperlyplaced in
the charger.Thesilvercontactpointsshould
beinsidethecharger.
2.Checktomakesurethepowercordis
correctlypluggedintothechargerand the
wall.
3.Ifthelightstilldoesn’twork,plug thecharger
intoadifferentoutletinadifferentareato
ensurethattheoutletisworkingproperly.
4.Pullthepowercordoutofthecharger.
Underthesocketonthecharger,thereisa
drawerormagazinewherethereisafuse.
Usingapenorscrewdriver,pullthedrawer
outgently.Pullthe burntfuseoutofthe
drawerthatisnexttothecharger(see
diagrambelow)and discard.Takethe
replacementfuseand placeitinthesame
slotwheretheburntfusewas.Slidethe
drawerbackintothecharger.Plug the
powercordintothecharger.Placethe
batteryintothechargerandcheckforthe
light.
5.Ifthe lightdoesnotilluminate,contactyour
