BIO RAD iCycler User manual

Start Up. Power up the iCycler using the power switch on the right rear of the
instrument. After a quick diagnostic routine, the Log In screen will be displayed.
Log in.
• If you are registered user:
Press Enter, and select your name from the user list
• If you are not yet a registered user:
Use the right arrow key to highlight New User, and press Enter.
Input your name using the alphanumeric keypad.
✔Note that you may need to use the arrow to enter a letter if the previous letter was on the same
number key.
✔Note that you may enter Capital Letters and/or add a space to your name by selecting the appro-
priately labeled function keys.
✔Note that you may use numbers in your name by selecting the shift key.
• When your name is complete, choose Enter.
PIN protection.
• If you have a PIN, you will be asked to enter it here
• If you are a new user, you may choose to PIN protect your protocol files.
✔Note that you will not have the opportunity to select PIN protection at any other time.
You will now find yourself at the Home Screen
To run a stored protocol.
• From the Home screen press F1 to display the protocol library.
• Use the arrow keys to highlight the desired protocol.
• Press Enter and from the selection box, choose Run Protocol
• Confirm the selections in the Run Preparation screen:
✔Hot start conditions, temperature measurement method
✔Note that you may choose to link protocols from this screen
• Press F5 to Run Protocol.
Note that you may jump instantly between the Run Screen and the Home
Screen using the shift key and then selecting F1 for Home Screen or F2 for
Run Screen

To edit a stored protocol.
• From the Home screen press F1 to display the protocol library.
• Use the arrow keys to highlight the desired protocol.
• Press Enter and from the selection box, choose Edit Protocol.
You may change any of the editable fields for the protocol.
• To add or delete a step or cycle, press F3.
• To choose increment or decrement of time or temperature, put the cursor
on the time or temperature field to be adjusted and press F4.
• To set the ramp time or ramp rate, place the cursor on the temperature to
which you are ramping and press F4.
• When you finish editing the protocol, press F5.
✔Note that you may choose to run the edited protocol without saving the edits by choosing Run
Protocol from the selection box.
✔Note that you may choose to save the edits prior to running the protocol. You may choose Save
Protocol or Save Protocol As... from the selection box. Once you’ve saved or named and saved the
protocol, you may choose Run Protocol from the selection box.
To create a new protocol.
• From the Home screen press F2.
• Use the arrow key to highlight Custom in the selection box and press Enter.
• Edit the fields for your protocol.
• To add or delete a step or cycle, press F3.

Démarrage. Mettez le iCycler sous tension à l'aide de l'interrupteur situé sur le côté droit de

✔Vous pouvez utiliser les majuscules et/ou ajouter un espace à votre nom en sélectionnant les touches de
fonctions adéquates.
✔Vous pouvez introduire des chiffres dans votre nom en sélectionnant la touche des majuscules.
• Une fois votre nom complet entré, appuyez sur Enter.
Protection par code d'accès.
• Si vous avez un PIN (numéro d'identification personnel), vous êtes invité à l'entrer ici.
• Si vous êtes un nouvel utilisateur, vous pouvez choisir de protéger vos fichiers de proto-
cole par PIN.
✔Notez qu'il n'est pas possible de choisir un PIN à un autre moment.
Maintenant, vous devez être à l'écran Home (Accueil)
Exécution d'un protocole stocké.
• Dans l'écran Home, appuyez sur F1 pour afficher la bibliothèque des protocoles.
• Utilisez les touches fléchées pour mettre en surbrillance le protocole désiré.
• Appuyez sur Enter et dans la zone de sélection, choisissez Run Protocol (Exécuter le
protocole)
• Confirmez les sélections dans l'écran Run Preparation (Exécuter la préparation) :
✔Conditions de démarrage à chaud, méthode de mesure de température
✔Dans cet écran, vous pouvez choisir de relier des protocoles
• Appuyez sur F5 pour lancer l'exécution du protocole.
Vous pouvez alterner directement entre l'écran d'accueil Home et l'écran Run
(Exécution) en utilisant la touche des majuscules (shift) puis en sélectionnant F1 pour
l'écran Home (Accueil) et F2 pour l'écran Run (Exécution).

Modification d'un protocole stocké.
• Dans l'écran Home, appuyez sur F1 pour afficher la bibliothèque des protocoles.
• Utilisez les touches fléchées pour mettre en surbrillance le protocole désiré.
• Appuyez sur Enter et choisissez Edit Protocol (Modifier le protocole) dans la zone de sélec-
tion.
Vous pouvez changer tout champ modifiable du protocole.
• Pour ajouter ou supprimer une étape ou un cycle, appuyez sur F3.
• Pour accroître ou diminuer le temps ou la température, pointez sur le champ de temps
ou de température à régler et appuyez sur F4.
• Pour définir la durée de rampe ou la pente de la rampe, pointez sur la température finale
de la rampe et appuyez sur F4.
• Après avoir modifié le protocole, appuyez sur F5.
✔Vous pouvez exécuter le protocole modifié sans que les changements du protocole aient été enregistrés en
choisissant Run Protocol (Exécuter le protocole) dans la zone de sélection.
✔Vous pouvez enregistrer les modifications avant d'exécuter le protocole en choisissant Save Protocol
(Enregistrer le protocole) ou Save Protocol As... (Enregistrer le protocole sous...) dans la zone de sélection.
Une fois le protocole enregistré ou nommé et enregistré, choisissez Run Protocol (Exécuter le protocole)
dans la zone de sélection.
Création d'un nouveau protocole.

ou de température à régler et appuyez sur F4.
• Pour définir la durée de rampe ou la pente de la rampe, pointez sur la température finale

Inbetriebnahme. Schalten Sie den iCycler am Netzschalter hinten rechts am Gerät ein. Nach
Ablauf eines Kurzdiagnoseprogramms wird auf dem Bildschirm Log In (Anmeldung) angezeigt.
Anmeldung.
• Falls Sie bereits als Benutzer angemeldet sind:
Drücken Sie die Eingabetaste (Enter), und wählen Sie Ihren Namen aus der Benutzerliste aus
• Falls Sie noch nicht als Benutzer angemeldet sind:
Markieren Sie mit der rechten Pfeiltaste New User (Neuer Benutzer) und drücken die
Eingabetaste.
Geben Sie Ihren Namen über die alphanumerische Tastatur ein.
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie evtl. die Pfeiltaste zur Eingabe eines Buchstabens benötigen, falls sich der zuletzt
eingegebene Buchstabe auf derselben Nummerntaste befand.
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie Großbuchstaben eingeben und/oder Ihrem Namen eine Leerstelle hinzufügen können,
indem Sie die entsprechend gekennzeichneten Funktionstasten verwenden.
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie in Ihrem Namen Zahlen verwenden können, wenn Sie die Umschalttaste verwenden.
• Wenn Sie Ihren vollständigen Namen eingegeben haben, drücken Sie die Eingabetaste.
PIN-Schutz (Schutz der Personen-Kenn-Nr.)
• Falls Sie eine PIN (Personen-Kenn-Nr.) besitzen, werden Sie aufgefordert, diese hier
einzugeben
• Falls Sie ein neuer Benutzer sind, können Sie zum Schutz Ihrer Protokolldateien eine PIN
wählen.
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie den PIN-Schutz zu keinem späteren Zeitpunkt wählen können.
Sie befinden sich nun im Hauptmenue.
Ausführung eines gespeicherten Protokolls.
• Drücken Sie im Hauptmenue die Taste F1, um die Protokollbibliothek anzuzeigen.
• Markieren Sie mit Hilfe der Pfeiltasten das gewünschte Protokoll.
• Drücken Sie die Eingabetaste, und wählen Sie im Auswahlkästchen die Option Run Protocol
(Protokoll ausführen)
• Bestätigen Sie Ihre Auswahl durch Bestätigung Run Preparation (Ausführungsvorbereitung):
✔Hitze-Startbedingungen, Temperaturmeßmethode
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie in diesem Bildschirm Protokolle verknüpfen können.
• Drücken Sie F5, um das Protokoll auszuführen.
Beachten Sie, daß Sie problemlos zwischen dem Untermenue „RUN“ (Ausführen) und dem
Hauptmenue hin- und herwechseln können, indem Sie die Umschalttaste betätigen und
dann F1 Hauptmenue oder F2 (Untermenue „RUN“) drücken.

Bearbeitung eines gespeicherten Protokolls.
• Drücken Sie im Hauptmenue die Taste F1, um die Protokollbibliothek anzuzeigen.
• Markieren Sie das gewünschte Protokoll mit Hilfe der Pfeiltasten.

• Sobald die Protokollbearbeitung abgeschlossen ist, drücken Sie F5.
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie das bearbeitete Protokoll bei Bedarf ohne Speicherung der Bearbeitungen ausführen kön-
nen, indem Sie im Auswahlkästchen Run Protocol (Protokoll ausführen) auswählen.
✔Beachten Sie, daß Sie die Bearbeitungen vor Ausführung des Protokolls möglicherweise speichern wollen. Hierzu
können Sie Save Protocol (Protokoll speichern) oder Save Protocol As... (Protokoll speichern als) im
Auswahlkästchen auswählen. Sobald Sie das Protokoll gespeichert, bzw. bezeichnet und gespeichert haben, kön-
nen Sie im Auswahlkästchen die Option Run Protocol (Protokoll ausführen) auswählen.

• Um die Zeit oder die Temperatur zu erhöhen oder zu senken, setzen Sie den Cursor auf das
zu ändernde Zeit- oder Temperaturfeld und drücken F4.
• Um die Zeitveränderung festzulegen, setzen Sie den Cursor auf die gewünschte
Endtemperatur und drücken F4.
• Sobald die Protokollbearbeitung abgeschlossen ist, drücken Sie F5.

Avviamento. Accendere l'iCycler mediante l'interruttore di alimentazione situato sul retro
dello strumento a destra. Dopo una breve procedura diagnostica, viene visualizzato lo schermo
di Log In (Accesso).
Richiesta di accesso
• Se siete utenti registrati:
premete Enter (Invio) e selezionate il vostro nome dall'elenco degli utenti.
• Se non siete ancora utenti registrati:
usate il tasto freccia a destra per evidenziare New User (Nuovo Utente) e premete Enter
(Invio).
Immettete il vostro nome usando il tastierino alfanumerico.
Immettete il vostro nome usando la tastiera alfanumerica.
✔Potrebbe essere necessario usare il tasto freccia per immettere una lettera se la lettera precedente si trovava
sullo stesso tasto numerico.
✔È possibile immettere lettere maiuscole e/o aggiungere uno spazio al vostro nome selezionando i tasti funzione
opportunamente indicati.
✔Notate che è possibile usare numeri nel vostro nome selezionando il tasto delle maiuscole.
• Una volta completata l'immissione del vostro nome, scegliete Enter (Invio).
Protezione mediante numero di identificazione personale (PIN)
• Se possedete un PIN (numero di identificazione personale), vi verrà richiesto di immet-
terlo qui.
• Se siete nuovi utenti, potete scegliere di proteggere i vostri file di protocollo mediante un
PIN (numero di identificazione personale).
✔Nota bene questa è l'unica fase della programmazione nella quale è possibile selezionare il PIN di pro-
tezione.
Vi troverete ora allo schermo Home.
Esecuzione di un protocollo memorizzato
• Dallo schermo Home, premete F1 per visualizzare la libreria dei protocolli.
• Usate i tasti freccia per evidenziare il protocollo desiderato.
• Premete Enter (Invio) e scegliete Run Protocol (Esegui Protocollo) dalla casella di
selezione.
• Confermate le selezioni nello schermo Run Preparation (Esegui preparazione):
✔Condizioni di avviamento a caldo, metodo di misurazione della temperatura.
✔Notate che da questo schermo potete scegliere di collegare i protocolli.
• Premete F5 per eseguire il protocollo.
Notate che potete passare istantaneamente dallo schermo Run (Esegui) allo schermo
Home e viceversa usando il tasto delle maiuscole e selezionando quindi F1 per lo scher-

Arranque. Encienda el iCycler utilizando el interruptor de corriente que se encuentra en la

Protección con PIN.
• Si tiene un PIN (número de identificación personal), se le pedirá que lo ingrese ahora
• Si es un usuario nuevo, puede optar por proteger sus archivos de protocolo con un PIN.
✔Esta será la unica oportunidad para seleccionar protección del PIN.
Aparecerá la pantalla Home (Inicio)
Para ejecutar un protocolo almacenado.
• En la pantalla Home, apriete F1 para obtener la lista de protocolos.
• Utilice las teclas de flechas para realzar el protocolo deseado.
• Apriete Enter; en la caja de selección, elija Run protocol (Ejecutar protocolo)
• Confirme las selecciones en la pantalla Run preparation (Ejecutar preparación):
✔Condiciones de inicio en caliente, método de medición de la temperatura
✔Si lo desea, puede enlazar protocolos desde esta pantalla.
• Apriete F5 para ejecutar el protocolo.
Si lo desea, puede alternar instantáneamente entre la pantalla Run (Ejecutar) y la
pantalla Home oprimiendo la tecla de mayúsculas y luego F1 para la pantalla Home
o F2 para la pantalla Run.

Para modificar un protocolo almacenado.
• En la pantalla Home, apriete F1 para obtener la lista de protocolos.
• Use las teclas de flechas para realzar el protocolo deseado.
• Apriete Enter; en la caja de selección elija Edit Protocol (Modificar protocolo).
Si lo desea, puede cambiar cualquiera de los campos modificables para el protocolo.
• Para añadir o borrar un paso o ciclo, apriete F3.
• Para aumentar o disminuir el tiempo o la temperatura, coloque el cursor en el campo de
tiempo o temperatura que quiera ajustar, y apriete F4.
• Para fijar el tiempo de rampa o la velocidad de rampa, coloque el cursor en la
temperatura de rampa, y apriete F4.
• Una vez modificado el protocolo, apriete F5.
✔Si lo desea, puede ejecutar el protocolo modificado sin guardar los cambios. Para ello, apriete Run Protocol
en la caja de selección.
✔También puede guardar los cambios antes de ejecutar el protocolo. En la caja de selección, elija Save
Protocol (Guardar protocolo) o Save Protocol As… (Guardar protocolo como…). Después de guardar el
protocolo, o bien de ponerle un nombre y guardarlo, elija Run Protocol en la caja de selección.
Para crear un protocolo nuevo.
• En la pantalla Home, apriete F2.
• Use la tecla de flecha para realzar Custom (Especial) en la caja de selección y
apriete Enter.
• Modifique los campos para su protocolo.
• Para añadir o borrar un paso o ciclo, apriete F3.
• Para aumentar o disminuir el tiempo o la temperatura, coloque el cursor en el campo de
tiempo o temperatura que quiera ajustar, y apriete F4.
