Whensawing
• Removeallnails and metalobjectsfromthe
workpiecebeforestartingwork.

• Never put the saw down on a table or work bench
unlessswitchedOFF.
Operationalprotectiondevices
• Thecircularsawmustonly be used for cutting wood
orplastic.
• Ensurethat alldevicesscreeningthesawbladeare
inperfectworkingorder.
• Neverjamthe sawbladeguards.
• Freeajammedsaw blade guard immediatelyanddo
not use the saw if the guard is jammed.
• Donotremove the rivingknife.
• Therivingknifeshouldbecorrectlyset;thedistance
betweenthe toothedrimandtherivingknifeshould
bemax.5 mm and the heightdifferencebetweenthe
rivingknifeandthetoothedrimshouldbemax.

Checking and changing the saw blade
• Onlysawbladesconformingtothespecifications
containedintheseoperatinginstructionsmaybe
used.
• Sawbladesmadeofhighalloy, high speed steel
(HSSsteel)should not beused.
• Onlysharpsawbladesinperfectworkingcondition
shouldbeused; cracked orbentsawbladesshould
bediscardedandreplacedatonce.
• Ensurethatthesawbladeissecurelyfixedand
rotatesinthecorrectdirection.
Specialapplications
• Whencuttingnarrowworkpieces(widthlessthan
80mm)longitudinally,usearip fenceguide (rip
fencesparepartnotincluded)alongthelongitudinal
edge.
• Whensawingwiththeworkpiececlampedtight,
devicesshouldbeusedtopreventtheworkpiece
kickingback.
• Whensawingcircular sections ofwoodusea
devicetoholdtheworkpiecesteadyonbothsidesof
thesawbladetopreventslipping.
• Ensurethatpieces of woodsawnofftheworkpiece
cannot be caught up by the teeth of the saw blade
andthrown in the air.

•Never attempttoconnecttwochargerstogether.
•Always disconnect the supply beforemakingor
breakingconnectionstothebattery.
• Beaware that this toolisalways in an operating
condition,becauseit doesnothavetobeplugged
intoanelectricaloutlet.Keeptheswitchcontrol
lever in the “Off” position when the tool is not in use
orwhenchangingaccessories.
• Whendrillingordrivingscrewsintowalls,floors

• Washquicklywithsoapandwater.
• Neutralisewithamildacidsuchaslemonjuice
orvinegar.
• Ifbatteryliquid gets intoyoureyes,flushthem
withclean water fora minimum of 10minutes and
seekimmediatemedicalattention.

•Do not attempt to open the housing of your drill or
charger.

FUSE REPLACEMENT ON 1 HOUR CHARGER (UK ONLY)
• If you are using a 1 hour charger the plug is fitted
with a 3 or 5 amp fuse which should only be
replacedwithanidenticalfuseapprovedtoBS1362.

PREPARING YOUR CIRCULARSAW
SETTING THE DEPTH OF CUT ADJUSTMENT
Proceedasfollows:
Loosenthedepth ofcutadjustment(16) at the bottom of
thescale.Moveyourcircular saw up thescaleuntilthe
desireddepthofcutisindicatedonthescale(18).
Tightenthe screw (16).The depth of cutshould be 3mm
greaterthanthethicknessoftheworkpiece.
SETTINGTHE SIGHT GUIDANCESYSTEM
Thewindow and‘sightguide’aredesignedtoenable
accuratecuttingeverytimethesawisused.
Topreparetheguidesystemforfirsttime use,
proceedasfollows:
Markastraightline on
yourworkpieceto
representthedesired
pathof the saw blade.
Whilstviewingthrough
thesawguardwindow
alignthesaw blade
teethwiththeintended
line of cut drawn on the
workpiece.
Whilstkeepingthesaw
inthisposition,placethe
orange‘sightguide’(13)
ontothe shoe of your
circularsaw.Alignthe
‘sightguide’withtheline
drawnontheworkpiece
andsecure inplacewiththescrew provided.
•Atthe start of everycut align the bladeas described
andwhilstcuttingkeep the ‘sight guide’inlinewith
theintendedlineof cut drawn ontheworkpiece.
•Whenattemptingmitrecuts,followthesame
proceduredetailedabove,however,usethearea
marked45˚on the‘sightguide’.
SETTINGTHE MITRING ADJUSTMENT
Your circular saw can cut at angles up to 45˚. To adjust
theangle ofyourcircularsaw,proceedasfollows:
Loosenthelocking
screw(12). Move your
circularsawaroundthe
mitrescale (11)untilthe
desiredangleis
indicated.Tightenthe
lockingscrew(12).
CHANGINGTHE BLADE
Proceedasfollows:
DisconnecttheBatterypackandRetracttheblade
guard(6).Insert a
screwdriverthroughthe
hole in the
bladetopreventrotation

Insertthenewblade,

(20).Ensurethatthiswasheriscorrectlylocatedonthe
flatsofthespindle.Fitthesawblade locking screw
(19).Insert ascrewdriverthroughthehole intheblade
topreventrotationoftheblade.Tightenthesawblade
lockingscrewclockwiseusingtheallenkey(22).
ADJUSTINGTHE RIVING KNIFE
Therivingknife(4) prevents the saw blade from
jammingduringripsawingoperations.Youmustcheck
thepositionof therivingknifewheneverthesaw blade
isreplaced,orwhenevertheclearanceisaffected.
Proceedasfollows:
Disconnectthebatteryattherearoftheunit.
Throughtheopeningin
theupperbladeguard,
locatetherivingknife
screw.Useallenkey (22)
toloosenthe rivingknife
screw.Adjusttheriving
knifeto give a radial
clearanceof2-3mmand
atoothpeakclearance
of2-3mm.Tightenthe
rivingknifescrew.
Your saw is now ready for use.
OPERATINGYOUR CIRCULAR SAW
Toswitchyourcircular
sawon,depress the
lock-offbutton(7)and
squeezetheon/off
triggerswitch(2).
Tostopyourcircular
saw,releasethetriggerswitch.
HOLDINGYOUR CIRCULAR SAW
Thefronthandle(8)
makesiteasiertoguide
thesawproperly.Switch
themachineonbefore
youstartsawingthe
workpiece.Guidethe
sawwithoutpushingit
and give the blade time to pursue its path. Use the
mark(14)forstraight cuts or the mark (15)formitring
cuts, to keep to the line you have drawn.
MAINTENANCEOF THE WINDOW
Fromtimetotime,itmaybecomenecessarytoremove
cuttingdebris/dustfromtheinsideofyourcircularsaw
window.
Todothis, proceedasfollows:
Disconnectthebattery
pack(1) from theSaw.
Removetheallenkey
(22)fromthe‘sight
guide’(13),andinsert
into the left of (9).
Pushthe spring to the
right,and liftthewindow
up until it will not go any further, do not force it open. It
can now be cleaned with a lint free cloth. Let the
windowcloseandreplacetheallenkey(22)tosight
guide(13).
Note: Ifnecessary,use only mildsoap to clean your saw
asmanyhouseholdcleanerscontainchemicalswhich
couldseriouslydamage the plastic.Also,donotuse
petrol,turpentine,laquerorpaintthinnersorsimular
products.Neverletanyliquidgetinsideyourcircular
saw and never immerse any part of it into liquid.

CHARGINGYOUR CIRCULAR SAW
Important! Thebatterypack inyourcircularsawisnot
chargedwhensuppliedasnew.Anewbattery,orone
whichhasnotbeenusedforanextendedperiod,
achievesfullperformanceonlyafterapproximately5
charginganddischargingcycles.
Beforeattemptingtochargeyourcircularsaw,readall
thesafetyinstructions.
Tochargeyourcircularsaw,proceedasfollows:
Toremovethebattery
pack,depressthetwo
releasebuttonsand
withdrawthebattery
pack.
Plugthechargerinto a
standard220/240V
socket.
Placethebattery pack in
thecharger.While
charging,yourbattery
packmay hum and
becomewarmtothe
touch;thisisnormal.
Afternormalusageyour
powerpack shouldbe
fullychargedin3hours
orless. If your power
packis run down
completelyitmaytake
up to 8 hours to become
fullycharged.Yourpower pack was sent fromthe
factoryinanunchargedcondition;beforeattemptingto
use it, it must be charged for at least 6 hours.
Toprolongyourpowerpackslife,avoidleavingiton
chargeformorethan8hours.Althoughoverchargingis
notasafety concern, it canreducethe overall life of
yourpowerpack.
Disconnecttheplugfromtheelectricitysupplybefore
makingorbreakingconnectionstothebatterypack.
Forthe longestbatterylife,chargethe batterypackin
anairtemperatureofapproximately24°C/75°F.Donot
chargethebattery packiftheairtemperatureis below
5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F.
If the electricity supply is satisfactory and your
saw is still not charging, take or send your saw
and charger to your local Black & Decker
authorised repair agent.
