Typical Application
OVERVIEW
Reduce the amount of time your printer or copier is powered
on per day— without sacrificing productivity! Cut costs on
your electric bill, repairs on your equipment, and benefit the
environment, too, with the Energy Saver II. It’s an intelligent
switching device that turns off a copier, laser printer, PC, or
other common office machine during periods of inactivity,
day or night, and restores power to it automatically the next
business morning.
You can use the Energy Saver’s integral clock/calendar and
auto-start features, with user-selectable weekend exclusion, to
automatically power on the attached device at a specified time
each workday. Or use the manual override switch at any time
to instantly power the office machine on or off.
Additional features include:
• Built-in power meter with four display options—watts,
average watts, total kWh, and hours.
• Automatically calibrates itself to the idling-state energy
profile of the attached device.
• LEDs for auto-start, calibration mode, relay status, and
power.
• State-of-the-art current-sensing logic with calibrated
digital conversion.
• Auto-restart after power failures with protective
10-second delay.
• Clock/calendar with battery backup.
• Automatically adjusts for daylight savings time.
• Automatically calculates the day of the week.

Recognize any of these situations?
• You wait more than 30 minutes to get through
to a vendor’s tech support.
• The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you
the wrong answer.
• You don’t have a purchase order number and the
tech refuses to help you.
• It’s 9 p. m. and you need help, but your vendor’s
tech support line is closed.
According to a survey by Data Communications
magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say
that getting the technical support they need is extremely
important when choosing a vendor. But even though
network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their
overall purchase price for a basic service and support
contract, the technical support and service they receive falls
far short of their expectations—and certainly isn’t worth
what they paid.
At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the
best support. You can even consult our Technical Support
Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just
the right component for your application.
Don’t waste time and money—call Black Box today.
Why Buy From Black Box? Exceptional Value.

WHAT‘S INCLUDED Item Code
Energy Saver II SW718A
The Energy Saver II continuously measures fluctuations in AC
current to track when the office equipment is being used. When
a surge occurs that exceeds the device’s idle-state values pre-
viously stored, the inactivity timer is restored to the specified
value. If the timer expires, the device is powered off. You can
defer inactivity sensing until after the close of business to ensure
that the attached device is available for use at all times during
the day.
Technically Speaking
In addition to its current-sensing logic, the Energy Saver
II includes a fully calibrated metering capability to display
actual energy consumption. The display options include
instantaneous watts, average watts, accumulated kWh,
and total elapsed hours.
