5-dB
Press the -dB button to instantly mute the
audio source. Return to normal volume by
pressing the -dB button once again or by
activating the Vol+ button.
To change the -dB value:
Adjust the desired volume with the Vol+/
Vol- button. Confirm your entry by pres-
sing the -dB button for about 2 seconds.

8KeyCard
Insert the KeyCard (contact area showing
up) into the corresponding slot above the
flashing KeyCard tongue. (See also “DSC
programming”).
9PS/MIX
Radio functions:
When pressing the button for less than
2 seconds, the system will briefly play
all stations stored on the preset but-
tons. When pressing the button for
more than 2 seconds, the system will
briefly play all FM stations to be
received.
CD functions:
Pressing the button for less than 2 se-
conds activates the MIX function. All
CD titles will then be played at random.
Pressing the button for more than 2
seconds activates the CD-SCAN
function. The system will then briefly
play all CD titles.
To cancel the CD-SCAN function, press
the PS/MIX button once again.
:TPM
(Track Program Memory)
To select and store the titles for CD
reproduction. The system allows to pro-
gram up to 30 discs in advance. Read
through chapter “TPM programming”.
;lo · CLR
Radio functions:
Press button for less than 2 seconds to
change the seek tuning sensitivity.
Press button for more than 2 seconds
to switch to mono reproduction.
CD functions:
To delete CD titles from the TPM me-
mory.
<TA (priority for traffic announce-
ments)
When “TA” lights up in the display, the
system will only play stations offering
traffic information.
“TA” on/off: press the TA button.
=AF button (alternative frequency)
during RDS operation
When “AF” lights up in the display, the
system will automatically seek a fre-
quency offering better reception of the
same RDS program.“AF” on/off: press
the AF button briefly. When pressing
the AF button for about 2 seconds, the
display will show REG-ON or REG-OFF
(regional programs).
>PTY button
Use this button to enter the PTY mode.
In this mode, the preset buttons are
used to select different program types,
e.g. SPORT. The system will then only
seek stations offering sport programs.
?SRC · CD - EJECT
(SRC = source) When listening to a CD,
you can use this button to shift between
radio and CD operation. To eject the
disc, keep the button depressed for
more than 1 sec.

You can store 6 stations on each FM
memory bank (I, II, and “T”).
To store a station: Press button during
radio operation and hold down until the
radio resumes play.
To recall a station: Select the wa-
veband. With FM, select the desired
memory bank and press the correspon-
ding preset button.
ACD slot
When inserting a disc with the label
side facing up, it will be automatically
transported to the playing position. The
system will switch from radio to CD
operation.
BDSC (Direct Software Control)
Use the DSC function to adapt a num-
ber of programmable basic settings to
your personal needs. For more informa-
tion, read through chapter “DSC pro-
gramming”.
Important notes
What you must know!
Beforestartingtouseyournewcarradio,you
shouldcarefullyreadthroughtheinformation
on “Traffic safety”.
Traffic safety
As the driver of a motor vehicle, it is your
responsibility to pay attention to the traffic
situationatalltimes.Neveruseyourcarradio
in a way that could distract you.
Please keep in mind that you travel a distan-
ce of 14 m per second at a speed of only 50
km/h.
Should the traffic situation become particu-
larly demanding, we would advise you not to
use the radio.
When adjusting the volume, make sure that
you are still able to hear all sounds coming
from outside of the vehicle, so that you are
always able to react to warning signals, for
example from the police or the fire brigade.
Installation/hook-up
If you like to install your new car radio by
yourself or add other audio components to
the existing ones, then please read carefully
the enclosed instructions on installation and
hook-up.

Optical indication of theft protection
When the car is parked, you can let the
KeyCard tongue flash in order to show that
the set is theft-protected. DSC allows you to
adjusttwodifferentsettings:LED ONorLED
OFF.
For more information, please read through
chapter “DSC programming - CODE-LED”.
KeyCard
Thiscarradiocannotbe operatedunlessthe
correspondingKeyCardisinserted.TheKey-
Card code is stored in the set.
Turn on the set and introduce the KeyCard
completely. The car radio is now ready for
operation.WheninsertingawrongKeyCard,
the display will show “----”.
After approximately 10 seconds the display
shows CARD ERR.
In this case do not go on operating the set
until you have the corresponding KeyCard
available.
NevertrytopullouttheKeyCardbyforce.
First, slightly push in the card (which will
then be released), and then remove it.
Should you have lost your KeyCard, or if it
hasbecomedamaged,pleasecontactoneof
ourauthorisedservicepartnersonpresenta-
tion of the car radio pass.
You can find such service providers listed in
the car radio service register . In case of
doubt, please contact the central service
centreinyourcountryformoreinformationon
the next KeyCard service facility in your vici-
nity.
The following functions can be individually
stored with the KeyCard (1 and 2): bass,
treble, balance and fader settings, preset
stations, Loudness, program type (PTY), TA
(volume of traffic announcements).
Moreover,theparametersadjustedlastsuch
as waveband, station, TA priority or seek
tuning sensitivity remain stored.
Hence, you will always find your basic set-
tings adjusted again after you have inserted
your KeyCard.
Radio operation with RDS
(Radio Data System)
Tomakeradioreceptionevenmoreconveni-
ent, an ever increasing number of FM radio
stations broadcast additional information in
parallel with their normal program via the
Radio Data System.
Assoonasaradioprogramcanbeidentified,
thestationnameandpossiblyalsoaregional
identifierwillappearinthedisplay,e.g.“NDR1
NDS”(localradio program in Lower Saxony,
Germany).
With RDS, the preset buttons turn into pro-
grambuttons.Nowyouknowexactlytowhich
programyoursetistunedin,makingitabso-
lutelyeasytofindthedesiredstationquickly.
But RDS even offers you more advantages:
AF - alternative frequency
The AF function makes sure that the stron-
gest frequency of the selected program is
always tuned in automatically.
This function is activated if “AF” lights up in
the display.
To switch AF on/off:
• Press AF briefly.
Duringseektuningforthefrequencyoffering
the best reception of the selected program,
the radio is muted for a moment.

If “SEARCH” appears in the display when
turning on the set or when calling up one of
the stored frequencies, the set is automati-
cally searching for an alternative frequency.
“SEARCH” goes out as soon as the system
has found an alternative frequency or after
thefrequencybandhasbeenscannedcom-
pletely.
Should the reception quality of the selected
program become too bad,
•tune into another program.
REG - Regional
The AF function can also be used to acivate
and deactivate the regional function.
At some times of the day, larger radio stati-
ons split up their main program into regional
program versions offering local information.
If you want the radio to lock onto a regional
program,
• hold down the AF button for about 2
seconds.
The display will show “REG ON”.
If you leave the service area of the regional
station tuned in, or if you wish to use the
entire RDS service again, switch to “REG
OFF”.
•Hold down the AF button for about 2
seconds until “REG OFF” is displayed.
If “REG ON” is activated, the display will
show “REG ON” each time the radio is swit-
ched on.
Selecting a station
This set allows you to receive FM stations
between 87.5 and 108 MHz.
Automatic seek tuning /
• Press /. The radio will automatically
tune into the following station.
If you keep the upper or lower part of the
rocker switch /depressed, seek tuning
speeds up in upwards or downwards directi-
on. up
Manual seek tuning
(prerequisite: AF is switched off!)
•Press << or >> to change the frequency
in small steps in upwards/downwards
direction.
Hold down the right or left part of the rocker
switch to speed up this procedure.
Adjusting the seek tuning sensi-
tivity
The set allows you to modify the seek tuning
sensitivity.
If “lo” is indicated, the radio will only pick up
strong stations (low sensitivity).
If “lo” is deactivated, the radio will also pick
uplesspowerful stations (higher sensitivity).
The degree of sensitivity can be separately
adjusted for both levels (see chapter “DSC
programming”).
Stereo - mono switch (FM)
You can switch to mono when the reception
quality becomes poor:
• Press lo for approximately 2 seconds.
During mono reception the stereo symbol
in the display will go out.
Each time the car radio is switched on, the
radiowillbeautomaticallysettostereorecep-
tion.

It will automatically switch to mono when the
reception quality becomes poor.
Changing the memory bank (FM)
You can shift between the memory banks I
and II to store and recall preset stations.
Theselectedmemorybankisindicatedinthe
display.
•Press FM until the desired memory
bank lights up in the display
(press repeatedly if necessary).
Storing stations
Using the preset buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 you
can store six stations on each FM memory
bank (I, II, T).
•Press the FM or TS button to select the
waveband.
•Use the rocker switch to tune to a stati-
on (either automatically /or manual-
ly ).
•Press the desired preset button and
hold it down. The radio will be muted
and resumes play after approximately 2
seconds.
Now the station is stored. The activated pre-
set button is indicated in the display.
Note:
If you tune into a station which has already
beenstored,thecorrespondingpresetbutton
andthememory bankwillstartflashinginthe
display for a short while.
Storing the strongest stations
automatically with Travelstore
YoucanusetheTravelstorememorybankto
automatically store the six strongest FM sta-
tions sorted on the preset buttons according
to their signal strength. This feature is espe-
cially useful when travelling, because it will
alwaysgiveyouthemostpowerfulstationsat
a fingertip as you pass through the various
reception areas.
•Press TS for at least 2 seconds.
The radio will seek the most powerful FM
stations and store them on the “T” memory
bank (Travelstore). As soon as this procedu-
rehasfinished,thefirststationwillbeplayed.
FM stations can also be stored manually on
the Travelstore memory bank (see “Storing
stations”).
Recalling stored stations
Youcanrecallanystoredstationbypressing
the corresponding preset button.
• Select FM or TS and with FM also the
desired memory bank.
For this purpose, press FM until the
desired memory bank is indicated on
the display.
•Briefly press the corresponding preset
button.
Sampling stored stations briefly
with Preset Scan
With this function you can briefly sample all
preset stations.
• Press PS.
The radio will briefly play all the stored
stations of the tuned in waveband one
after another.
OnFM,thesystemwillsamplethestationsof
one of the memory banks I, II, or T, depen-
ding on which bank was selected before.
Free preset buttons will be skipped.
To switch off Preset Scan:
• Press PS once again.
The radio will continue to play the cur-
rently sampled station.

Sampling stations briefly with
Radio Scan
Startingwiththecurrentlyplayedstation,you
mayletthesystemsamplethefollowingones
one after another.
To activate Scan:
• Press PS for about 2 seconds.The sam-
pled frequency or the station name
starts flashing in the display. During the
actual search process, “SCAN” is flas-
hing.
To continue listening to a sampled stati-
on/switch Radio Scan off:
•Briefly press PS.
If no station is selected during the search
operation, the scan function will be automati-
cally switched off after the entire frequency
bandhasbeenpassedthrough.Theradiowill
thenreturntothe initialstationthatwasbeing
playedwhenthescanfunctionwasactivated.
For more information, please also refer to
chapter “DSC programming - SCANTIME”.
PTY
The PTY signal is transmitted along with the
RDS data telegram and contains information
ontheprogramtype.Program types e.g. are:
news, current affairs, information, sport, etc.
This enables you to choose a certain type of
program according to your personal needs.
With PTY you are prepared for the future of
RDS.
•Press the PTY button.
Youcannowusethepresetbuttonstochoo-
se one out of six different program types.
In the PTY mode the preset buttons no
longer have their original function (see also
chapter “DSC programming - PTY SET”).
PTY and seek tuning
First switch on the PTY mode and choose a
program type (e.g. 4 = sports). When the
seektuningfunctionisactivatedvia /,the
radio will only capture those stations which
transmit the selected PTY code. If no such
station is found, the radio returns to the
original mode. The display shows “SPORT”
for approximately 3 seconds.
PTY and scan
First switch on the PTY mode and choose a
program type (e.g. 4 = sports). When the
scan function is activated, the system will
only sample those stations which transmit
this PTY code.
Reception of traffic
announcements with
RDS-EON
(Enhanced Other Networks)
ManyFMbroadcastersprovidetheirservice
area with traffic messages at regular inter-
vals.
Alltrafficprogramstationstransmitaspecial
signal in parallel with the radio program,
whichisprocessedbythecarradio.Assoon
as such a signal is received, the display
shows “TP” (Traffic Program).
Otherradiostationsdonotairtrafficannoun-
cements by themselves, but offer the possi-
bilitytoreceivethetrafficannouncementsof
another station within the same radio net-
work. In this case, “TP” also lights up in the
display.
“TA” is displayed, if the priority for traffic
announcements is activated.
Ifa traffic announcementis aired, yourradio
will automatically switch to the traffic pro-
gram for the duration of the message and
returntothepreviousstationaftertheendof
the message.
Priority of traffic announcements ON/
OFF
If the priority of traffic announcements is
activated, “TA” lights up in the display. To
switch the function on/off:
•Press the TA button.

When pressing TA while a traffic announce-
mentisbeingplayed,theradiostopsplaying
the message and switches to the previous
mode. The priority for all subsequent an-
nouncements remains active.
Warning beep
Whenever you leave the reception area of
the traffic program station you have tuned
into,youwillhearawarningbeepafterappro-
ximately 30 seconds.
Thiswarningbeepwillalsobereleasedwhen
pressing a preset button on which a station
without traffic program is stored.
Switching the warning beep off
a) Tune to another traffic program station:
•Press the rocker switch 6, or
•press a preset button with a station
offering traffic information.
or
b) Switch the priority of traffic announce-
ments off:
• Press TA.
In the display, the “TA” indication goes out.
Automatic seek tuning start
(CD operation)
If you leave the reception area of your traffic
program while you are listening to a CD, the
car radio will automatically tune into another
traffic program station.
If no such traffic program station is found
within approximately 30 seconds, CD repro-
ductionwillbeinterruptedandyouwillheara
warning beep. To switch off the warning
beep, proceed as detailed above.
Adjusting the traffic message and
warning beep volume
The traffic message and warning beep volu-
me is adjusted at the factory. However, you
can change this default setting using the
DSC function (see “DSC programming - TA
LEVEL”).
Station names ST NAME
When selecting a station, the display will
show its frequency and, in case of an RDS
station, also the station name.
With this set it is now possible to replace the
frequency indication of a stored non-RDS
stationbyastationnameindicationofmax.8
characters.
The station to be named has to be stored on
one of the memory banks I-II.
The following has to be taken into account:
•Press the DSC button. Then press
/until “ST NAME” is indicated in the
display.
•Use the button to activate the
entry mode.
•Use the /button to select the cha-
racters.
The display will show one after another the
capital letters (A-Z), the umlauts, the special
characters, and the numbers (0-9).
Onceyouhavefinishedyourentry,pressthe
-dB button for about 2 seconds.
•Press the DSC button to quit the DSC
mode.
Eachtimethe named station is selected, the
specified name will appear in the display.
With RDS stations, the RDS indication al-
wayshaspriority.IfyouhavenamedanRDS
station,thespecifiednamewillfirstappearin
the display for about 3 seconds after the
corresponding preset button was pressed.
Afterwardsitwillbereplacedbythetransmit-
ted RDS name. The station name is deleted
by storing another station on the preset but-
ton.

If the rocker switch is only pressed once,
thesystemwillgobacktothebeginningofthe
currently played title and repeat it, provided
that this track has at least been played for 5
seconds.
Therockerswitchisdesignedasasequence
switch, i.e. several tracks can be skipped at
a time by pressing it repeatedly. The display
showsT(track) and the corresponding num-
ber of the currently selected track.
Storing tracks with TPM
•Insert the disc.
•Select a track using the /rocker
switch. The track number is shown in
the display.
•Press TPM until a beep tone is relea-
sed or until the set resumes play.
Now the title is stored.
Thenselectthenexttrackwiththe /rocker
switch and store it with “TPM” as described
above.
You can store tracks at any time during CD
reproduction. For this, “TPM” must be swit-
ched off. Proceed in the same way for the
track programming of the other discs.
CD reproduction with TPM
•Insert the disc.
•The TPM function has to be switched
on (TPM on/off with the TPM button).
The tracks stored with TPM will be played in
ascending order. All tracks which were not
stored will be skipped.
Clearing the TPM memory
Using the CLR (clear) button you can either
clear individual tracks, all tracks of a disc, or
the entire TPM memory.
TocleartheTPMprogramming, “TPM” must
be switched on. The display will then show
“TPM”. If the TPM memory is empty, the
display reads “NO TPM”.
a) Clearing a track programmed with
TPM:
•Insert the corresponding disc.
•Switch on TPM.
•Use the /rocker switch to select
the track to be cleared.
•Press the CLR button for approxi-
mately 2 seconds until “CLEAR” is
shown in the display. Now this track
is cleared from the TPM memory.
b) Clearing the TPM memory for a CD
•Insert the corresponding disc.
•Switch on TPM.
CD operation
Inserting the disc
•Switch on the set.
•Insert the CD (label side facing up) wi-
thout applying force.
Thediscisautomaticallypulledintothesetto
reach the playing position. CD reproduction
starts.
Ejecting the disc
• Press the CD-Eject button ?for more
than 1 second. The CD is ejected.
ToprotecttheCDmechanism,theautomatic
insertion and ejection of the disc must not be
impaired in any way.
Selecting a track
As soon as the disc is inserted, the activated
CD functions will be shown in the display. If
the“TPM”indicatorisoff,allCDtrackswillbe
played.
If “TPM” is on, only the tracks programmed
with TPM will be played. For information on
how to program the desired tracks, read
through section “Storing tracks with TPM”.
Use the or rocker switch to select the
desired title.
• Press rocker switch to skip titles.
•Press rocker switch to repeat titles.

•Press the CLR button for approxi-
mately 8 seconds until “CLR CD” is
shown in the display.
The TPM memory for this disc is clea-
red.
c) Clearing the TPM memory for all
CDs
•Insert the corresponding disc.
•Switch on TPM.
•Press the CLR button for approxi-
mately 14 seconds until “CLR TPM”
is shown in the display.
The TPM memory for all discs is
cleared.
Clearing the TPM memory with DSC
The DSC function allows you to completely
clear one or several discs from the TPM
memory.
Use the update function to confirm the TPM
programmingforalldiscstobemaintainedin
the TPM memory.
• Press DSC.
• Press /until “CD UPD” (update) ap-
pears in the display.
• Press the <</>> button until “LOAD
CD” is displayed.
•Now insert the disc to be maintained in
the TPM memory. The display shows
“READ”.
• The display shows “NEXT CD”.
•Press EJECT and insert the next disc.
Go through this procedure again for all discs
you wish to maintain in the TPM memory.
•Finally press the TPM button for more
than 2 seconds.
•Quit the DSC mode.
All the discs inserted during this procedure
will be remained in the TPM memory. The
other discs left out are deleted.
Sampling tracks automatically with CD
SCAN
This function allows you to sample all CD
tracks one after another.
To activate the scan function,
•press the PS button for about
2 seconds.
The display shows “CD SCAN”.
Thefollowingtrackswillbescannedoneafter
another.
If “TPM” is activated, the set will only sample
the tracks stored in the TPM memory.
To continue listening to the sampled track,
•press the PS button once again. The
set will then continue to play the track
currently being sampled.
Seealsochapter“DSCprogramming-SCAN-
TIME”.
The Mix function
When the Mix function is activated, the CD
tracks will be played at random. The display
will then show “Mix”.
If“TPM”isactivated,thesetwillonlyplaythe
tracks stored in the TPM memory. To skip a
title, press button .
Press the Mix button to switch “Mix” on and
off.
CD naming
Thisfunctionallowsyoutonameasmanyas
30discs.Eachtimethecorrespondingdiscis
inserted, the specified name will then be
shown in the display (e.g. VIVALDI).
To start the entry:
•Press the DSC button.
• Set “CD DSP” to “NAME”.
•Press the /button until “CD NAME”
is displayed.
•If no disc is inserted, the system will
display “LOAD CD”.

The display will show one after another the
capital letters (A-Z), the umlauts, the special
characters, and the numbers (0-9).
• Use the /button to move to the next
character and make a selection.
It is possible to specify a total of 8 different
characters.
To finish your entry:
Press the -dB button to store the entry and
then either the DSC button to quit the DSC
mode, or EJECT to name the next disc.
An old name can be deleted by overwriting it
with a new one.
CD NAME Use this function to name
your discs.
ANGLE Use one of the values -1, 0,
or +1 to adapt the individual
viewing angle.
BEEP Achnowledgement tone for
all functions where the re-
spective button has to be
hold down for more than 2
seconds to activate the fun-
ction.
Adjust volume between
0 and 9 (0 = OFF).
BRIGHT The display brightness can
be adjusted between 1 and
15. You may set one day
and one night adjustment.
Brightness of night illuminati-
on:
Switch on the vehicle’s light-
ing system and program the
brightness value. For this,
the illumination connector
has to be hooked up to the
electric system of the car.
DSC programming
This car radio offers direct software control
(DSC) to adapt a number of default settings
to your personal needs and to store them.
Inthefollowingyouwillfindanoverviewofall
the default settings adjusted at the factory.
To change a programmed parameter,
• press DSC.
Then use the rocker switch to select and
change the functions described below.
The display shows the the adjusted conditi-

CD DSP Use this function to display
the NAME or the TIME.
LED ON You can select between LED
ON and LED OFF.
When setting LED ON, the
KeyCard tongue will flash for

the set is switched off and

the loudness function will
create a more natural sound

PTY LANG Use this function to select
the language for the PTY
indications in the display.

PTY SET Use this function to change
the default allocations of the

press the preset button once
again.
SCANTIME Use this function to specify
the scan time (in the CD and
radio mode). Choose a va-
lue between 5 and 30 se-
conds.
S-DX 1 Use this function to adjust
the seek tuning sensitivity
for distant reception.
DX. 1 - high sensitivity
DX. 3 - low sensitivity
S-LO 1 Use this function to adjust
the seek tuning sensitivity
for local reception.
LO. 1 - high sensitivity
LO. 3 - low sensitivity
SPEECH In the future, the RDS
broadcasters will make a
distinction between music
and speech programs. Use
the SPEECH function to
separately adjust the sound
settings for speech pro-
grams.
ST NAME Use this function to name
the respective stations.
TA LEVEL Use this function to adjust
the volume of traffic announ-
cements between 1 and 9.
The announcement will be
played with the specified
volume.
CD UPD Use this function to update
the TPM memory. The dis-
play first shows “LOAD CD”
and “READY” after the disc
has been inserted.
Once the reading process for
the disc is finished, the sys-
tem displays “NEXT CD”.
VOL FIX Use this function to adjust
the initial volume when the
set is switched on.
