•Tocomplywithfederalregulations,ensurethatthe
equipmentdoesnotobstructthetruck’staillight
whentheplowisraised.Ifthetaillightsare
obstructed,auxiliarytaillightsmayberequired.
•Alwayswearappropriatepersonalprotective
equipmentwhenoperatingandservicingthe
machine.Wearsubstantial,slip-resistantfootwear,
andcold-weatherclothing.
•Usea500kg(1/2ton)minimumliftingdeviceto
moveheavyplowcomponents.
•Materialsafetydatasheets(MSDS)areavailable

Operation
•Vehiclesequippedwithairbagsaredesigned
sothattheairbagsactivateinafrontalcollision
equivalenttohittingasolidbarrier(suchasawall)
atapproximately22km/h(14mph)ormore,ora
frontalperpendicularcollisionwithaparkedcar
ortruckofsimilarsizeatapproximately45km/h
(28mph)ormore.Carelessorhigh-speeddriving
whileplowingsnowcandeploytheairbag.
•Donotchangethebladepositionwhentraveling.
•Donotexceed64km/h(40mph)whentransporting
theplow.
•Donotexceed23km/h(14mph)whenplowing.

•Alwayslowerthebladewhenthevehicleisnotin
use.
•Neverputanypartofyourbodybetweentheplow
andthevehicle.
•Donotoperatethemachinewhileill,tired,or
undertheinuenceofalcoholordrugs.

vehicle.

BeforeOperation

•Ensurethatyourvehiclehasbeenmaintained
accordingtothemanufacturer’srecommendation.
•Consideraddingastrobelightorbackuplightsto
yourvehicleiftheyarenotalreadyequipped.
•Ensurethatyourvehiclecomplieswiththefederal
requirementsforfrontandrearweightdistribution.
Anyballastshouldbeplacedbehindtherearaxle
towardthetailgateandsecuredinplace.
•Ensurethatallsnowplowboltsaretightand
torquedproperly.
•Ensurethatyoursnowplowbladeisnotover-worn
andinneedofreplacing.
•Donotexceed64km/h(40mph)whentransporting
theplow.

•Whentransportingtheplow,keeptheplowwings
retractedtoreducethechanceofcatchingacurb,
snowbank,orothervehicles.
•Turnofftheplowcontrollerwhentransportingthe
plowtoandfromajobsite.
•Whentransportingtheplow,donotblockyour
visionwiththeraisedplow.
•Beforeitsnows,inspectthelocationyouwillbe
plowingandlookforobstaclesthatwillbecome
hiddenonceitsnows.Lookforthingssuchas
bumperstops,speedbumps,curbs,shrubs,water
drains,rehydrants,fences,andpipes.T oprevent
damagingtheareabeingplowed,yourplow,or
yourvehicle,markanyobstructionsinawaythat
willbevisibleafteritsnows.

Plowing

ProtectingYour
Transmission
Transmissiondamageisacommonproblemthat
occurswhileplowing.Thefollowingstepscanhelp
preventtransmissiondamage:
•DonotplowinoverdriveunlesstheOwner’s
Manualforyourvehiclerecommendsit.
•Planyourplowpatternsothatyoudriveforward
asmuchaspossible.
•Cometoacompletestopbeforeshiftingfrom
forwardtoreverse.
•Waituntilthetransmissionengagesbefore
accelerating.
•Accelerateslowly,allowingthetirestogriptheroad
surfaceforbettertraction.Avoidspinningthetires.
•Startdrivingforwardbeforeloweringtheplowfor
apass.
•Wheneverpossible,backintoaclearedarea.
