QUICK START GUIDE FOR
BRIGHTSIGN XT243-PLAYER
IMPORTANT!!!!!
From PC, the programme BrightAuthor can be used to get
content onto the BrightSign players.

The following instructions are for Mac users who must use
the players without BrightAuthor. Those who want to work
from a PC without BrightAuthor can also benefit from the
instructions below, although certain things will be different.
Please use the microSD adapter included to transfer data to
the microSD card. Otherwise the card will break!

1. QUICKEST WAY TO START THE PLAYER
1. connect the player to the monitor or beamer via HDMI
2. carefully insert SD cards
3. connect the player to the power supply
4. turn on the projector or monitor
2. RESET
IMPORTANT!!!!!
After loading the players with new videos and/or scripts, a reset
should be performed.
1. at the same time, press and hold the "SVC" + "Reset buttons
2. apply power to the player
3. wait until the "Err" LED flashes red quickly
4. let go of the "SVC" and "Reset" button
3. FORMATTING THE SD CARDS
The standard formatting of the cards is "ExFAT". This allows
files larger than 4 GB to run.

4. SUPPORTED VIDEO FORMATS AND CODECS
4K
- supported resolutions: 3840x2160 or 4096x2160
- supported codec: H.265 (HEVC), H.264 is not supported!!!
- supported container formats: .ts, .mov, .mp4, .mkv.
- recommended bitrate: CBR 30-40 Mbps
- Audio: AAC (CBR/VBR) up to 288Kbps
HD
- max. resolution: 1920x1080
- supported codecs: H.265, H.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-1
- supported container formats: .ts, .mpg, .vob, .mov, .mp4, .m2ts
(.mov files with compressed "atoms" are currently not
supported)
- Supported H.265 profiles: Main, Main 10 profile up to level 5.1
- supported H.264 profiles: Main, High Profile up to level 4.2
- supported MPEG-1 formats: System Streams (Elementary
Streams are not supported)
- max. recommended bitrate: 25Mbps
- Audio: AAC (CBR/VBR) up to 288Kbps

5. RECOMMENDED PROGRAMMES FOR
ENCODING
- Adobe Media Encoder
- Apple's Compressor and Quicktime for H.264 (H.265 is not
supported).
- Handbrake (free: https://handbrake.fr)

6. SCRIPTS
IMPORTANT!!!!!
1. to use the following scripts successfully, they must be modified in a text
editor. For this purpose, use e.g. BBEdit. Do not use Apple's TextEdit as it
causes errors! (www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/download)
2. do not rename the names of the scripts.
SCRIPT A: PLAY ONE OR MORE VIDEOS IN A LOOP
1. download the script from the following page:

IMPORTANT!!!!!
The videos are played in alphabetical order.
2. adapt the scripts
Open script with TextWrangler or BBEdit and adjust the
following parameters:
Output of image:
VideoResolution$="1920x1080x25p"
-> Sets the resolution and the number of frames per second
Volume of the audio output:
v.SetVolume(50)
-> choose between 1 and 100
3. saving the script and video(s)
Save the script to the SD card together with the video(s) after the
modifications have been made. Do not save them in a folder. Do
not rename the script! Delete all other data from the SD card
(also empty the recycle bin)!
IMPORTANT!!!!!
Please use the microSD adapter provided to load the small microSD card.
Otherwise the card will break!
4. connect the player to the monitor or beamer via HDMI.
5. insert SD cards carefully
6. Connect the player to the power supply (reset if
necessary!).
7. turn on the beamer or monitor

SCRIPT B: PLAY TWO VIDEOS ON TWO PLAYERS
SYNCHRONOUSLY

IMPORTANT!!!!!
Not all information in this manual/script is correct (e.g. the formatting "Mac
OS Extended" is not supported by BrightSign according to our tests, but
additional formats, e.g. 1920x1080x25p, are supported by BrightSign).
2. modification of the scripts
For the synchronisation to work, two scripts are needed, one for
the master player and one for the client player.
The script for the master player must/can be adjusted as
follows:
Name of the video:
videoFile = "Video1.mp4"
-> change the name of the video file to match the file on the SD
card.
Output of the image:
VideoMode$ = "1920x1080x25p"
-> set the resolution and the number of frames per second
Volume of the audio output:
audioVolume = 50
-> choose between 1 and 100
After the changes have been made, save the script together with
the video(s) to the SD card. Do not save them in a folder, delete
all other data from the SD card! Do not rename the script!

The script for the client player must/can be adapted as follows:
Name of the video:
videoFile = "Video2.mp4"
-> change the name of the video file to match the file on the SD
card.
Output of the image:
VideoMode$ = "1920x1080x25p"
-> set the resolution and the number of frames per second
IP address of the client:
ClientIP$ = "192.168.1.11"
Volume of the audio output:
audioVolume = 50
-> choose between 1 and 100
3. save script and video(s)
After the changes have been made, save the script together with
the video(s) to the SD card. Do not save them in a folder. Do not
rename the script! Delete all other data from the SD card (also
empty the recycle bin)!
