Winch Lever Position Change for DB8000 Winch
The position of the lever effects the application of this winch considerably. For example
if the winch is to be fitted onto a ‘foot down’ mount such as a winch bumper, then the
clutch lever may foul the fairlead plate.
The steps below should allow you to change the position of the lever so that the mounting
position is no longer restricted.
Take a look at the current position of the
lever. It is on the forward edge of the winch
On the end of the casing you will see that
there are six screws which hold on the plate.
While removing these I suggest that the
winch is placed on end to stop the gears and
sleeves from falling one the plate is removed.
Once the plate is removed, you will see the
gears of the case.
Be careful to take note of the order in which
the sleeves, washers and gears come out for
when you come to reassemble them.
The gears themselves will be in three layers.
You will also see that each layer is thicker as
you draw them out of the case.

Once the three gear layers have been
removed, take a look at the base of the gear
case.
There are six more screws to be removed to
separate the case from the side of the winch.
Be careful once more as there is a gear ring
which is located on small springs. They will
not pop out but keep the winch on end as
your lift off the case.
Lift off the case and you will notice that the
lever ring will now slide off the base of the
case.
You can see here that the ring gear from
under the case has been lifted off the small
springs.

When the ring gear and lever are held
together you will see how they need to go
together.
There is only one possible way so you
can’t get it wrong!
Keeping the two rings together, it is time
to return them to there position on the
end of the winch itself.
You can choose your preferred location
for the lever as long as the ring gear is
also kept against the lever as shown
above.
You can see here that I have replaced the
main gear casing and started to tighten
the screws.
You may wish to just check that the label
is in a good place on the outside of the
case.
If not then turn the screws on to the next
tapped screw hole until you are happy.

Replace the three gear clusters along with
the sleeve in the same order in which
they were withdrawn.
Now just replace the end plate with the
six screws and lock washers.
Here the winch is reassembled and the
lever is in the winch out position.
