circuit boards, used electrical parts and products as disposed electrical materials.
4 The power consumption is 0 W after you turn off the machine and unplug it from the AC outlet.
5 Some parts in the machine can be used on the same series model machines which produced
by the same factory.
Note: If you want to replace the parts, please contact your local Brother repair station.

The following symbols and conventions are
used throughout the documentation.
Follow all warnings and instructions marked
on the product.
General information 1
WARNING indicates a potentially
hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious injuries.
Important indicates a potentially hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, may result in
damage to property or loss of product
functionality.
Prohibition icons indicate actions
that must not be performed.
Electrical Hazard icons alert you to a
possible electrical shock.
Hot Surface icons warn you not to
touch machine parts that are hot.
Fire hazard icons alert you to the
possibility of fire.
Notes tell you how you should
respond to a situation that may arise
or give tips about how the current
operation works with other features.
WARNING
Important
Bold Bold style identifies keys on the
machine's control panel or on
the computer screen.
Italics Italicized style emphasizes an
important point or refers you to

This Basic User's Guide does not contain all
the information about the machine such as
how to use the advanced features for Fax,
Copy, Printer, Scanner, PC-Fax and
Network. When you are ready to learn
detailed information about these operations,
read the Advanced User's Guide,
Software User’s Guide and
Network User’s Guide that are on the
Installer CD-ROM.

Viewing Documentation (Windows®)1
To view the documentation, from the Start
menu, select Brother, MFC-XXXX (where
XXXX is your model name) from the
programs list, and then choose
User’s Guides.
If you have not installed the software, you can
find the documentation on the Installer
CD-ROM by following the instructions below:
aTurn on your computer. Insert the
Installer CD-ROM into your CD-ROM
drive.
Note
If the Brother screen does not appear
automatically, go to My Computer
(Computer), double-click the CD-ROM
icon, and then double-click start.exe.
bIf the model name screen appears, click
your model name.
cIf the language screen appears, click
your language. The CD-ROM Top Menu
will appear.
dClick Documentation.
eClick PDF documents. If the country
screen appears, choose your country.
After the list of User’s Guides appears,
choose the Guide you want to read.

aTurn on your Macintosh. Insert the
Installer CD-ROM into your CD-ROM
drive. The following window will appear.
bDouble-click the Documentation icon.
cIf the model name screen appears,
choose your model name and click
Next.
dIf the language screen appears, double-
click your language folder.
