(hereinafter referred to as "the printer").
Thisisaslim, lightweight thermal black-and-white mobile printer,
which, by connecting to acomputer or mobile device, can print via
simple operations.
Thisdocument describeshow to consult instruction manualsand
other pointsusersshould know to implement basic printer operations.
Before using thisprinter, be sure to read thisdocument to ensure
correct use of the printer.

Before Use
Installing the rechargeable battery
1 Press the areaindicated by 1
on the battery cover 2and
slide it off the printer.
Danger
Do not use thisprinter with any rechargeable battery other than that
specified (BT-100), otherwise afire or damage may result.
When handling the rechargeable battery, see the instructionsin the
Product Safety Guide.
Do not disassemble the rechargeable battery.
The battery connector should not be frequently
unplugged and reconnected, otherwise it may be
damaged or the battery cord may break. The battery
must only be removed when replacing it at the end of
itsservice life, or when the printer will not be used for a
long period of time.

2 Insert the connector 1of the
battery in the direction shown
at right.
3 Fit the battery cord into the
groove as shown in the
illustration.
4 Install the battery cover by
sliding it onto the back of the
printer.
 Insert the connector fully, without using excessive force.
Pay attention to the battery cord colorsand be sure you
insert the connector in the correct orientation,
otherwise it may be damaged.
Be careful that youdo not catch the battery connector
cord.

Charging
Use the AC adapter designed specifically for thisprinter to charge the
battery.
After purchasing thisprinter, be sure to charge the battery fully before
using it (the charging indicator light lightsup in orange while charging).
1 Plug the AC adapter cord into
the printer.
2 Plug the AC adapter plug into
an AC power outlet
(AC 110 V-120 V).
Charging of the Li-ion battery
automatically begins.
The orange charging indicator
light islit.
When charging isfinished, the charging
indicator light goesoff.
It takesapproximately three hoursfor the battery to
recharge from acompletely empty state to afully
charged state (with the printer turned off).
Charge the battery in an ambient environment with a
temperature between 5 and 40 °C/41 and 104 °F.
(The battery will not recharge if the ambient
temperature isoutside thisrange.)
If the temperature movesout of the above range during
the charging process, the charging stopsand the
charging indicator light goesoff.
When youuse the printer with Bluetooth, we
recommend turning off the power during the charging
process. When the printer entersBluetooth sleep
mode, the sleep mode continuesto consume battery
power even after battery charging has finished and the
battery isfully charged.

3 After charging isfinished, disconnect the AC adapter.
Indicator lights
A blue or green status indicator light indicatesthe printer
isoperating correctly, while ared light indicatesan error
has occurred.
When the status indicator light isgreen, only the USB
interface can be used. When the light isblue, the Bluetooth and USB
interfacesare available for communication; however, when a
connection has been established using one of the interfaces, data
cannot be received using the other interface until printing has
finished.
The printer cannot be operated solely with the AC
adapter. The rechargeable battery must be installed.

1If an error has occurred (ared light flashes), check for the following
causes:

Clean the paper feed roller and remove
paper powder (see page 21).
A transmission error occurred.
Check the transmission status
(see page 17).
Wait for afew seconds. If the printer has
recovered from the error, resend the data
to resume printing.
If the printer doesnot recover during a
Bluetooth connection, re-establish the
connection.
An overheat error occurred.
The inside of the printer has started to
overheat.
Wait until it coolsdown.
If an overheat error has occurred during
the printing process, the paper being
printed isfed and discharged.

Charging indicator light
Yo ucan check the status of the power supply by
observing the charging indicator light.
The charging indicator light has two functions.
1Indicating the charging status (when the AC adapter iscon-
nected)
2Indicating the battery level (while running with the Li-ion battery)

 To increase battery lifetime, try to discharge the battery
completely before recharging it.
 Wait until the light continuesto flash three timesbefore
recharging the battery.
 Due to the characteristicsof batteries, even though the
battery isfully charged, using them in low temperature
locationsgreatly reducesthe number of printoutsthat
can be made.
 In order to maintain the efficiency and life of
rechargeable batteries, remove the AC adapter from
the printer when charging iscompleted.
 Storing the rechargeable battery in alocation exposed
to high temperatureswill cause it to deteriorate. Do not
store the battery in alocation exposed to direct sunlight
or high temperatures(such as inside avehicle, near a
heater, or on aheated carpet).

 Thisprinter ispowered with arechargeable Li-ion
battery. If the printer can only be used for ashort
period of time even though the battery isfully charged,
the battery may have reached the end of itsservice life.
Replace the rechargeable Li-ion battery with anew
one.
 To protect the circuitry, the battery cannot be charged if
the unit isin alocation exposed to extremely high or
extremely low temperatures.
 Do not wind the AC adapter cord around the adapter or
bend the cord, otherwise the cord may be damaged.

Turning the printer on/off
Press and hold the power switch for a
short while.
 Press and hold the power switch until
the green or blue status indicator light
islit.
When the printer isturned on, the
status indicator light is:
Green (if Bluetooth isswitched off)
Blue (if Bluetooth isswitched on)
To prevent the printer from accidentally being turned on,
it doesnot turn on if the power switch islightly pressed.
 Auto sleep
(with Bluetooth switched on):
If there isno operation or datatransmission for aset
time period, the printer automatically entersthe sleep
mode. The length of time until the printer automatically
entersthe sleep mode can be specified from Printer
Properties> Device Setup > Utilities
(see the Software User's Guide).
 Auto power-off
(with Bluetooth switched off):
If there isno operation or datatransmission for aset
time period, the printer automatically turnsoff. The
length of time until the printer automatically turnsoff
can be specified from Printer Properties> Device
Setup > Utilities
(see the Software User's Guide).

Using Bluetooth
Use the Bluetooth switch to
select whether to use
Bluetooth communication.
Turn on the Bluetooth switch to
transmit datausing Bluetooth.
When dataisprinted using aUSB, we recommend
turning off the Bluetooth switch to save power.
 Wireless connectionsare used in awide range of
fields. Therefore, to prevent malfunctions, turn off
Bluetooth in the following areas or locations:
• Hospitals
• Aircraft
• Locationscontaining flammable substances, such as
gasoline or petrol stations
• Fire alarms
 Bluetooth connectivity variesgreatly according to the
operating environment. If agood connection cannot be
achieved, try connecting again. Connectionsare
difficult to achieve in the following locations:
• Near electronic equipment
•
Near broadcasting stationsor wireless base stations
• Near awireless LAN (IEEE 802.11)
 Equipment using Bluetooth technology may take afew
secondsuntil the Bluetooth functionality can be used
after it isturned on. The length of time differs
depending on the equipment.
 If the printer becomesdisconnected because the iPad/
iPad Air/iPad mini/iPhone/iPod touch ismoved away
from the printer, select "Bluetooth" in the device
settings, and then tap the device youwant to connect
to from the list of Bluetooth devices.

Preparing the paper cassette
Use only the paper cassette designed exclusively for thisprinter. Use
of any other paper may cause paper misfeedsor damage the printer
main unit.
Prepare the paper cassette before loading it into the printer.
1 Firmly fold the lid back
along the fold 1.
2 Insert the tab on the lid into the slit 2at the back of
the cassette.
Make sure the lid isfirmly folded, otherwise apaper
misfeed may result.
Handling the paper cassette
Thisprinter determinesthe paper type depending on
the loaded paper cassette, then automatically selects
the settingsappropriate for that type of paper. Do not
transfer paper to adifferent paper cassette.
Do not reuse paper, or return paper to the paper
cassette after it isremoved,
The paper cassette ismade of cardboard. After
finishing using the paper cassette, dispose of it
according to local regulations.
Do not use atorn or deformed paper cassette,
otherwise damage may result.
When storing the paper cassette, be sure to close its
lid.
Use the paper as quickly as possible, otherwise it may
become discolored.

Loading the paper cassette
1 Slide the paper cassette cover
(on the top of the printer) in the
direction indicated by 1.
The paper cassette cover will
open in the direction indicated by
2.
2 Insert the paper cassette.
The paper type indication on the
paper cassette should face up. The
end of the paper should point toward
you.
3 Close the paper cassette cover
in the direction indicated by 3.
When loading the paper cassette, make sure it is
correctly aligned and the end of the paper isnot folded,
otherwise apaper misfeed may result.
When exchanging the paper cassette, disconnect the
AC adapter and USB cable in advance.

4 Slide the paper cassette cover
in the direction indicated by 4.
If the paper cassette iscorrectly
loaded, the paper type indication on
the cassette can be seen through the
paper check window.
The paper cassette cover is
locked.
If paper isnot correctly fed, see page 21.
Do not remove the paper from the paper cassette and
load it directly into the printer.
To c h ange the paper type, load adifferent paper
cassette.
While the printer isprinting, do not apply pressure to
the paper output slot or place anything on the printer.

Communication Using Bluetooth
Technology
Precautions for printing data using Bluetooth
If using acomputer, make sure the Bluetooth function isavailable
for the computer or mobile device before installing the printer driver
for the printer.
Establishing a Bluetooth connection
The following describesthe basic procedure for setting up
transmission between the printer and the mobile device using
Bluetooth. For more information, see the instruction manual for the
mobile device.
1 Slide the Bluetooth switch to
activate Bluetooth.

The following instructionsoutline the basic proceduresto
make aBluetooth connection. For details, see the
instruction manual for your Bluetooth device, such as a
computer, mobile device, or adapter, and for Bluetooth
management software.

2 On the computer or mobile device, open the screen
used for establishing aBluetooth connection.
3 Search for Bluetooth devicesfrom the Bluetooth
connection screen.
"MW-145MF_*****" should be found, where "*****" isthe last
four digitsof the printer serial number.
4 Select thisprinter from the list of Bluetooth devices
found, and establish the connection.
When connecting the computer or mobile device to this
printer for the first time, youare requested to enter the PIN
(or password).
5 Enter the PIN (or password or passcode) (thisisthe last
four digitsof the printer serial number designated by
factory settings).
The printer isregistered as aconnected device in the
Bluetooth connection screen.
6 When acomputer isused, select "serial port" as the
connection method to the printer in the Bluetooth
connection screen.
Depending on the Bluetooth device, youmay also be
requested to enter the PIN at the second and following
connections.
Note the COM port number when it appears. (Depending
on the type of the computer or mobile device, the COM
port number may be required for printing.)
