Active Piloting
Eventhoughyourparagliderisdesignedtobeeasytoy,‘activepiloting’isatoolthatwillhelpyouywithgreater
safetyandenjoyment.Activepilotingisyinginempathywithyourparaglider.Thismeansnotonlyguidingtheglider
throughtheairbutalsobeingawareoffeedbackfromthewing,especiallyinthermalsandturbulence.Iftheairis
smooththefeedbackcanbeminimalbutinturbulencefeedbackiscontinuousandneedstobeconstantlyassessed
bythepilot.Suchreactionsbecomeinstinctiveingoodpilots.
Inordertogetthebestperformancefromthewing,thepilotshouldtrytocontrolitthoughsmallbrakeinputsand
weight-shift,ratherthanconstantlybeingpresentonthebrakes.Asmallmovementearlyismoreefcientthana
bigbrakemovementlatertocontrolthewing.Themoreyoulettheglideryattrimspeed,thebetterperformance
youwillgetoutofit.Theobjectiveofactivepilotingistogettheglidertoysmoothlythroughtheairwithastable
positionabovethehead,andcontrolledangleofincidence.Theparagliderishighlyresistanttocollapsewithoutany
pilotactionatall,butlearninghowtoyactivelywillincreasethissafetymarginevenfurther.
Speed System
Yourpoweredparagliderisequippedwithrisersthathavebothtrimmersandanacceleratorsystem.
Launchingandgeneralyingisnormallydonewithoutusingtheaccelerator.Theacceleratorbarshouldbeused
whenhigherspeedisimportant.
Toyatfull-barthespeedstirrupshouldbeappliedgraduallyuntilthetwopulleysoneachA-risertouch.Donotgo
beyondthispointbyusingexcessiveforcetoattempttomaketheglidergofasterasthismayresultintheglider
collapsing.
