Section 1
General Description and Operation
1.1 Purpose
The accelerometer 4511-W-006 is intended to measure the vibration of the mechanical gearbox for HUMS purposes. It consists of a
piezoelectric element and an electronic charge converter enclosed in a hermetic housing. The output provides a voltage signal
proportional to the acceleration. It is powered by a constant current line drive supply on the same wire as the output signal.

The accelerometer is intended to measure the vibration of the rotor for HUMS purposes on three axes: X, Y and Z. It consists of a
triaxial piezoelectric element and an electronic charge converter enclosed in a hermetic housing. The output provides a voltage
signal proportional to the acceleration for each axis. It is powered by a constant current line drive supply on the same wire as the
output signal on each axis.

Section 2
Testing
2.1 General
•In addition to the standard tool kit, special tools will be necessary for some operations. These tools will besupplied by the
manufacturer
•Tools and special tools supplied by the manufacturer are illustrated and listed under “Standard and Special Tools”.
2.2 Test Conditions
Ambient temperature:25°C ±5°C
2.3 Procedure
2.3.1 Appearance
1) Check labelling.
2) Check overall dimensions.
3) Check electrical connections.
Note:
•For Type 4511-W-006, see Fig. 2for specification of overall dimensions
•For Type 4524-W-001, see Fig. 4for specification of overall dimensions
2.3.2 Transducer Sensitivity Control
The transducer must be calibrated at a temperature around 25°C ±5°C.
This calibration operation will not only test the transducer, but also the measurement chain “transducer-cable-DMAU”.
Control process:
1) Dismount the transducer from its bracket. Do not disconnect the electrical cable.
2) Using Calibration Exciter Type 4294, mount the transducer with a “finger-tight” mounting torque (max. 0.5 Nm) directly onto
the calibrator’s vibration table as shown in Fig. 5.
For 4511 W006, use the mounting adaptor WA-1740
For the 4524W001, use the mounting adaptor WA-1732

3) Start the calibrator by pressing its button. The level displayed / recorded by the DMAU must be:
•Type 4511-W-006 –Monoaxial :10 mV (accelerometer sensitivity × 10 ms2× gain of DMAU) ± 8%
•Type 4524-W-001 –Triaxial :100 mV (accelerometer sensitivity × 10 ms2× gain of DMAU) ± 8%
Note: With Type 4524-W-001–Triaxial, , the three positions on the WA-1732 allow to test ofthe three axes X, Y and Z.:

2.3.3 Electrical Test
This test verifies the transducer only.
Process:
1) Disconnect the cable of the transducer.
2) Dismount the transducer.
3) Connect the transducer to the CCLD Power Supply cable:
a) For Type 4511-W-006 –Monoaxial, use CCLD Power Supply WB-1372 and the cable supplied with it.
b) For Type 4524-W.001 -Triaxial, use CCLD Power Supply WB-1453 and the cable supplied with it.
4) Press the switch in battery position. Read the level indicated onthe meter: the minimum is: 23 V
5) Press the switch in bias position. Read the level indicated by the meter: it must be between 12 V +1 V and 12V –2 V:
A high bias voltage (near the battery voltage) or low bias voltages indicate adefective transducer.

replace the transducer.

4.2.2 Control of special tools :
-Manufacturer control:CCLD Power Supply WB-1372 and WB-1453 and Calibration Exciter Type 4294 must be sent to
Brüel &Kjaer every two (2) years for certification of their specifications.
-On site Control of the CCLD power Supply WB1372 and WB1453:
-Press the switch in battery position. Read the level indicated on the meter: the minimum is: 23 V. If level is under 23 V ,
change the three 9V batteries inside the box.
-Connect the resistance WB-3579 to the CCLD power supply and press the switch in bias position :
oIf level indicator is under 11 V , the cable is in short-circuit
oIf level indicator is above 17 V , the cable is broken or open circuit

Section 6
Cleaning, Storage and Transportation
Clean the accelerometer with a dry smooth cloth.
Store the equipment in a polythene bag, then in a cardboard box.
When the unit is packed as above, it must be stored in clean, dry, well-ventilated premises free from corrosive fumes. The
temperature should be between –40 to +70°C and relative humidity between 20% and 85%. The unit should not be removed from
its package during storage.
