Step 1: Connect your Cables
Plug LinkStation’s power cord and Ethernet cable into the back of
the LinkStation.
Connect the power plug to a surge protector or power outlet (Plug
type and socket will differ depending on country of use). Plug the
other end of the Ethernet cable into a hub, switch, or router on
your local network.

Press the power button on
the front panel to turn your
LinkStation on.
Check the LINK/ACT LED on
the front of the LinkStation. If
it’s lit, then your LinkStation is
connected properly. Please turn
to page 4 to continue setup.
If the LINK/ACT LED on the
front of LinkStation is not lit,
your LinkStation is not properly
connected to your network.
Make sure that:
• both LinkStation and the hub, switch, or PC are powered on,
• the Ethernet cable is securely fastened to both devices, and
• the Ethernet cable is not damaged. To verify, try using another
Ethernet cable.
Step 2: Check your Connection
If problems persist, contact our technical support.

Insert the LinkNavigator CD
into your computer’s CD-
ROM drive. If Setup doesn’t
launch automatically, you
can launch it manually by
clicking Start, then Run....
When the Run dialog
opens, type d:\setup.exe
(where “d” is the drive letter
of your CD-ROM). Press OK to continue. If you are
installing the software on a Mac, open the cd and click
LinkNavigator to begin installation.
If you’re installing on a Mac,
skip to the next page.
If you’re installing on a PC,
click on Connect this PC
to LinkStation (the green,
lower button).
Click Next to step through
the installation.
Step 3: Installing Software
Click on Begin
Installation.

Continue pressing Next to
step through the installation.
When installation is
complete, you may close the
installation window.
Congratulations! Your LinkStation is ready to use. Turn to page
6 for more on using your LinkStation with a PC, or page 7 for
more on using your LinkStation with a Mac.
Please see the LinkStation User Manual on your LinkStation
CD for more help and conguration options.

The LinkStation shortcut will take directly to the
folders on your LinkStation.
Share is the main folder that you can put les
and folders in. Info contains a copy of your user
manual.
Using your LinkStation with a Windows PC
The Buffalo NAS Navigator icon opens
the LinkStation’s client utility. This
lets you easily view system information
for your LinkStation(s). If you click
Setup and choose Conguration
Settings, it will take you to the settings
conguration GUI, where you may
change your LinkStation’s settings.
Until you change it, the GUI’s username
is “admin” and the password is
“password”.
The default language for the web interface is English. This can be
changed by selecting the Basic screen, and then choosing your desired
language from the Display Language drop down. You will also need to
select the corresponding Windows Client Language. Click on Apply to
implement your changes.
Consult your user manual for more information on the Buffalo NAS
Navigator and the Settings Conguration GUI.
If you’re using a Windows PC, two new
icons will be on your desktop: Shortcut for
LinkStation and Buffalo NAS Navigator.

After installing the LinkNavigator software,
your Mac will have two new icons on the
desktop.
The Share folder is the main folder
that you can put les and folders in. NASNavigator is the
LinkStation’s client utility.
Using your LinkStation with a Mac
Clicking NASNavigator
opens the LinkStation’s
client utility. This lets
you easily view system
information for your
LinkStation(s). If you
click Setup and choose
Browser Management,
it will take you to the
settings conguration GUI,
where you may change
your LinkStation’s settings. Until you change it, the GUI’s

Navigator and the Settings Conguration GUI.

1. Schritt: Anschließen der Kabel
Schließen Sie das Netzkabel der LinkStation und das Ethernet-
Kabel hinten an der LinkStation an.
Schließen Sie das Netzteil an einen Überspannungsschutz
oder eine Steckdose an (Stecker und Steckdosen variieren in
verschiedenen Ländern). Schließen Sie das andere Ende des
Ethernet-Kabels an einen Hub, Switch oder Router in Ihrem
lokalen Netzwerk an.

Drücken Sie den Netzschalter an
der Vorderseite der LinkStation, um
diese einzuschalten.
Überprüfen Sie die LED für die
Verbindungsanzeige (LINK/
ACT) an der Vorderseite der
LinkStation. Leuchtet die LED, ist
die LinkStation ordnungsgemäß
verbunden. Fahren Sie mit dem
Einrichten wie auf Seite 16
beschrieben fort.
Falls die LINK/ACT-LED an der
Vorderseite der LinkStation nicht
leuchtet, ist die LinkStation nicht
ordnungsgemäß mit dem Netzwerk
verbunden. Überprüfen Sie
Folgendes:
• Sowohl die LinkStation als auch der Hub, Switch bzw. der Computer
sind eingeschaltet.
• Das Ethernet-Kabel ist fest an beiden Geräten angeschlossen.
• Das Ethernet-Kabel ist nicht beschädigt. Überprüfen Sie dies, indem
Sie ein anderes Ethernet-Kabel verwenden.
2. Schritt: Überprüfen der Verbindung
Sollte ein eventuell vorhandenes Problem dadurch nicht gelöst
werden, setzen Sie sich mit dem technischen Support in
Verbindung.

Legen Sie die LinkNavigator-
CD in das CD-ROM-
Laufwerk des Computers ein.
Wird das Setup-Programm
nicht automatisch gestartet,
so aktivieren Sie es, indem
Sie auf Start gefolgt von
Ausführen... klicken. Geben
Sie im angezeigten Dialogfeld
Ausführen d:\setup.exe
ein (wobei das D für den Laufwerksbuchstaben des
CD-ROM-Laufwerkes steht). Zum Fortfahren klicken Sie
auf OK. Wenn Sie die Software auf einem Macintosh-
Computer installieren, rufen Sie die CD auf und starten
Sie die Installation durch Klicken auf LinkNavigator.

durchführen, fahren Sie bitte
mit der nächsten Seite fort.
Wenn Sie die Installation auf
einem PC durchführen, klicken
Sie bitte auf die untere grüne
Schaltäche Connect this PC
to LinkStation (Diesen PC mit
der LinkStation verbinden).
Setzen Sie die Installation durch
Klicken auf Next (Weiter) fort.

Verwendung der LinkStation mit einem Windows-PC
Über das Symbol Buffalo NAS
Navigator wird das Klienten-
Dienstprogramm der LinkStation
geöffnet. Hier können Sie
Systeminformationen für Ihre
LinkStation(s) anzeigen. Wenn Sie auf
Setup (Einrichtung) und anschließend
auf Conguration Settings
(Kongurationseinstellungen) klicken,
wird die Benutzeroberäche für die
Einstellungskonguration geöffnet, auf
der Sie die Einstellungen für die LinkStation ändern können. Bis dahin
lautet der Benutzername für die Benutzeroberäche „admin“ und das
Kennwort „password“.
Die Standardsprache der Web-Oberäche ist Englisch. Diese können
Sie ändern, indem Sie auf dem Bildschirm Basic (Grundlegende
Einstellungen) die gewünschte Sprache aus der Dropdown-Liste Display
Language (Anzeigesprache) auswählen. Gleichzeitig müssen Sie die
entsprechende Windows Client Language (Sprache des Windows-
Klienten) auswählen. Klicken Sie für die Aktivierung der Änderungen auf
Apply (Übernehmen).
