INSTALLING
THE
INSTRUMENT
IMPORTANT
The
record
player
is
springmounted
to
eliminatefeedbackfrom
the
loudspeakers.
In
transit,
the
motor
baseboard
is
heldsecurely
against
the
cabinet
by
means
ofa
rubber
buffer
placed
onthe
turn-
tablespindle.
The
rubber
buffer
should
be
removedfrom
the
spindle
and
placed
inthe
stowageposition
inthelid
(seeFig.
1)
before
using
the
record
player.
MAINSSUPPLY
WARNING
The
mainslead(Fig.
1)
must
be
connected
toa
three-pin
plug
in
ttae
following
manner:—
Red
lead
to
live
terminal
Black
lead
to
neutralterminal
Green
lead
to
earthterminal
Under
no
circumstancesshould
the
greenlead
be
connected
to
any
terminal
otherthan
the
earthterminal.
If
the
mains
socket
inuseisnotofthe
three-pin
type,
the
dealer
or
a
qualified
electrician
should
be
consulted.
Connections
made
by
an
unskilled
person
may
prove
fatal.

The
four-speedrecordplayer
is
designed
to
operate
on
a.c.
mainsonly
of
200-250
volts,
50
cycles
per
second.Mains
frequen-
cies
of40or60
cycles
per
second
maybe
used
ifthe
appropriate
drive
pulley
is
substituted
inthe
record
player.

The
mains-voltageadjustmentplug
(Fig.
2)issettothe
225/
250
tap,
when
the
record
player
leaves
the
factory.
Should
an
alteration
tothe
setting
ofthe
voltage-adjustmentplug
be
neces-
sary—disconnect
the
instrument
completelyfrom
the
mainssupply
and
remove
the
louvredventilationplate
from
the
insidefrontedge
of
the
turntablecompartment(Fig.
2).
Place
the
plug
inthe
200/225
tapfor
mainsvoltagesbetween
200
and
225.
Place
the
plug
inthe
225/250
tapfor
mainsvoltagesbetween
225
and
250.
Replace
the
louvredventilationplate.
OPERATING
THE
INSTRUMENT
Place
the
recordplayer
ona
level,
firm
surface.Ensurethat
the
pick-up
plug(Fig.
1)is
inserted
inthe
"Amp.Input"socket.
Switch
onby
turning
the
Volume—On/Off
control(Fig.
3)ina
clockwisedirection
until
a
click
is
heard
andthe
pilotlamp
is
illuminated.
The
Garrard
OperatingInstructionssuppliedwith
the
record
playertells
youhowto
play
the
records.Particular
care
should
be
taken
tosetthe
stylusturnoverknob
andthe
speed-adjuster
tothe
speedshown
onthe
recordlabel(for
the
16
r.p.m.
records
use
the
33-45stylussetting).After
use
when
the
pick-up
armhas
returned
toits
rest
it
should
be
locked
in
position
by
turning
the
pick-uplock(theblackknobunder
the
pick-up
arm
rest)
tothe
left.
The
Volume,Bass
and
Treblecontrols(Fig.
3)
should
be
adjusted
in
accordance
withindividualpreference.
The
controls,which
are
edge-operated,
are
calibratedfrom
1 to9 to
assist
in
subsequent
settings.
When
the
record
player
isnotin
use,
switch
off
by
turning
the
Volume—On/Off
control
ina
counter-clockwisedirectionuntil
a
click
is
heardagain.Return
the
speed-controlknob
tothe
neutral
position.
Records
maybe
transferred
onto
tape
by
connecting
a
tape
recorder
tothe
sockets,marked
'Output
to
Tape
Recorder'
(see
Fig.
2)
whichprovide
a
low
-
impedanceoutput.
The
connecting
leads
canbe
takenthrough
the
slot
inthe
back
ofthe
recordplayer
andfixedinthe
springclip(see
Fig.
1).The
OperatingInstructions
for
the
taperecordershouldgiveinformation
onthe
method
of
recording.Duringrecording,
the
Volume,Bass
and
Treble
controls
operatemanually
andcanbe
used
in
conjunctionwith
any
recording
controls
inthe
tape
recorder.

played

this
record
player
ifthe
following
additionalitems

obtainedfromyourBush
dealer:—

A
stereophonicpick-up
head,
type
GCS10
(MPM5mould-
ing).
(2)A
suitableaudioamplifier
and
loudspeaker.
(3)
A
length
of
co-axiallead.
IMPORTANT
Replace
the
existing
pick-up
head
with
the
type
GCS10.
Never
play
a
stereophonicrecordingwith
a
standard
pick-upsincethis
will
seriously
damage
the
record.
A
standard
fine-groove
recording
maybe
played
with
the
stereophonicpick-up.
Couple
the
"StereoOutput"socket
(Fig.
1)tothe
inputsocket
ofthe
second
amplifier.
The
Bush
dealer
responsible
for
installing
the
additionalequip-
ment
will
assist
in
positioning
thetwo
loudspeakers
inthe
most
advantageous
position.

maybe
used
asthe
second
amplifier
forthe
stereo
outputsignalderivedfrom
another
record
player.
In
this
instance
the
stereo
output
from
the
other
player
should
be
coupled
tothe
"Amp.
Input"
socket
ofthe
Model
SRP.31.

REPLACEMENT
OF
STYLUS
A
modernlightweightpick-up
isa
sensitiveinstrument
and
must
be
handledverycarefully
to
avoid
damage.
A
sapphirestylus
hasa
long
life
if
used
carefully.
Onlyrecords
in
goodconditionwithclean,dust-freesurfacesshould
be
used
since
wornsurfaces
may
damage
the
stylus.
A
worn
or
damaged
stylus
causesharshreproduction
and
increasedsurfacenoise
and
should
be
replaced
immediately.

The
recordplayeruses
a
type
GC8
pick-up,with
two
sapphire
styluses.
To
replace
a
stylus
first
remove
the
pick-uphead*.Then
insert
the
blade
ofa
penknife
under
the
middle
ofthe
stylusshank
(see
Fig.
4)and
gentlyeasethisaway
from
the
cartridgemoulding.
Carefully
press
thenew
stylusintoposition
so
that
the
back
of
the
stylus
shank
isfirminits
socket
andthe
frontclasps
the
actuator.
Replacement
styluses

pick-up
areas
follows
