FAQ
All my pictures are coming out black at night.
This is a common problem if the setting of the camera are not set up correctly. We will
need to make sure the Time, Date, Day Time setting are correct. To do this you will need
to turn the unit on and log into the camera. Then select the Menu option, the first
selection will be set Time. If this is not done you will need to hit Enter, then enter the
correct time. Once the time is entered we will need to hit the down button to the next
entry.
Battery life short on Trophy Cam.
Expected battery life depends on temperature and number of images. Bushnell expects
the camera to take several thousand images before the batteries would die. If your battery
life is shorter, check the following:
Make sure you have used new alkaline or lithium batteries. Bushnell recommends 8
Energizer Lithium AA batteries in all Trophy Cams.
Make sure that the power switch is turned to the “On” position and that the camera
was not left in “Setup” mode while in the field.
Make sure that you are using a good quality SD card in your camera. Bushnell
recommends San Disk Brand SD Cards. Unfortunately, poor quality SD cards can make
your camera have a much shorter battery life.
Camera takes continuous images of no subject
A camera has what is known as a “false trigger” if the PIR sensor thinks that there is
motion and heat in front of the camera lens when there is no subject in the image. These
“False Triggers” are the result of placing the camera in an environment where there is
motion associated with tree branches creating motion in front of the camera or an area
where there is high heat in the foreground and any motion from wind could set off the
camera. Setting a camera up over water is also a potential cause for this issue.
To remedy this situation try moving the camera to an area that does not have any of these
issues or try changing the sensor level on the menu settings.
If the camera continues to take images when there is no subject in them, try placing the
camera in an inside environment and aiming at a location where there is no motion. If the
camera continue to show issues, then there is probably an electronic component issue. If
this is the case, please contact our customer service to send the camera back for repair.
Can I change the resolution on any of the units?

The resolution can not be changed on any of the trail cameras.
Can I use a higher capacity SD card than what comes with
the unit?
You can use a higher capacity card than what comes with the unit. We have tested cards
up to 512MB. Any card larger has not been tested.
Can I use rechargeable batteries in my camera?
Since most rechargeable batteries operate at 1.2V instead of 1.5V we cannot recommend
rechargeable batteries. The Bushnell Trail Cameras are designed to operate at 6V by
using a mininum of 4-AA batteries.
Field Scan (Time Lapse) not working properly
Make sure that the stop and start times of Field Scan "A" and "B" do not overlap. (for
example, do not set the start time of "B" to 8AM if the start time of "A" is 10AM).
When Using Field Scan in Video Mode, the smallest interval time available is 5 minutes,
to avoid potential overheating of the batteries and electronic components, which could
cause operational failure or damage to the camera. In still photo mode a 1 minute interval
can be set.
How can I print my images?
You can print your images directly from your computer if you have an SD card slot or
external reader. You can also take the SD card to a photo center and have them printed.
How do I set the time for the day or night mode?
Use miltary time to set the start and stop times for day or night. This is only applicable if
the switch for imaging is set to "Day" or "Night" mode. In 24 hour mode, the camera
does not need to know when the day begins or ends.
How do I use the new Camera Name Input on the Bushnell
Trophy Cam HD?
After selecting the Camera Name parameter (the only setting is "Input"), press OK. If
necessary, delete the previous or default name by pressing the RIGHT key until the
backspace symbol (<- ) (located between letters "A" & "B", also between "j" & "k") is
highlighted, then keep pressing OK. Select (highlight) each alphanumeric character you

want, using the LEFT/RIGHT keys, and pressing OK after each one to set it. When
finished naming the camera, press MENU to save the name to memory.
How do I use the new Coordinate Input to set up the Geotag
setting on the new Trophy Cam HD?
After selecting the Coordinate Input parameter, press UP or DOWN to select the On
setting and press OK. The latitude and longitude for any location where you plan to place
the camera can be obtained at many websites, for example:
http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html. You can enter a nearby street address, just zip code,
or use the various types of maps to locate the approximate position.
How do I view my images on the SD card?
To view the images on the SD card, turn the unit off and remove the SD card. Insert the
SD card into your PC and view images. You may have to purchase an SD card reader
($10-$15 retail). Note: If you have a digital camera or Palm/Pocket PC that accepts SD
cards, you may be able to view the photos on those devices.
How long is the battery life for the Bushnell Trial Cameras?
Under normal scouting conditions (40 degrees F and above), the batteries should last over 30
days. We have had a unit running over 7 days in single digit temperatures and the camera was
still recording images.
On a Trail Scout/Sentry: 30 days or 300 photos
Trophy cam: 6 months or 700 photos w/ 4 AA’s; 12 months or 1400 photos w/ 8 AA’s.
How many images can I fit on a 32MB card?
Model#11-9600 should hold approximately 400 images on a 32MB card. Model#11-9800
and #11-9900 should hold approximately 120 images on a 32MB card.
I am having trouble viewing my video clips from my Trophy
Cam Model 119466, 119467, 119437, 119447, 119476 or
119477.
The .avi/.mov video files may be viewed with the Windows Media Player on PCs with
Windows 7. If your computer is running an older version of Windows, or you are on a
Mac, and you don’t already have a compatible video player, you can download a free
version of the DivX player from www.divx.com.

Make sure you are using an SDHC SD card. Bushnell recommends SanDisk brand SDHC
SD cards.
I cannot delete the images off of the SD card.
If you can not delete your images off your SD card, please look for the small white button
on the card that slides. It could be slid to the locked position, therefore not allowing you
to delete the pictures. Slide to the unlocked position and try to delete the photo.
I have locked myself out of my trail camera, what can I do
now?
If you are unable to log into your trail Camera you will need to call Bushnell Technical
Support. Please call 1-800-423-3537, then option 2 for further assistance.
If a majority of my images are over exposed what should I
do to try to alleviate this?
This is most often caused by the camera being positioned in a very enclosed area where
the target being photographed is very close to the camera. To alleviate this you can either
reposition the camera to point to a more open area or move it further up the tree and angle
it downward to the area that you wish photographed.
If I use the nightvision mode on unit 11-9900, what will the
pictures look like?
If you use the nightvision mode for still pictures or movie clips, remove the filter. The
pictures or movie clips will be in black and white.
Image/Video Dissatisfaction
Night images or video appear dark
Check to see if battery power is full. Camera will stop flashing near end of battery
life.
Make sure that the camera is aimed at your intended target area within 45’ (14m)
of the camera.
Please note that in the multi shot mode, some images may appear darker than
others due to the quick response and reshooting of the camera.

Daytime images or video appear dark
Make sure that the camera is not aimed at the sun or other light sources during the
day.
Night images or video appear bright
Make sure that the camera is aimed at your intended target area within 45’ (14m)
of the camera.
In cases where the subject is closer than 10’ (3m) of the camera, some images
may appear too bright.
Daytime images or video appear bright
Make sure that the camera is not aimed at the sun or other light sources during the
day.
Red/Green Images
Under certain lighting conditions, the sensor can become confused resulting in
poor color images.
If this is seen on a consistent basis, then the sensor may need servicing. Please
contact our customer service.
Short Video Clips—not recording to the length set
Check to make sure that the SD card is not full.
Make sure that the camera has good batteries in it. Near the end of the battery life,
the camera may choose to record shorter video clips to conserve power.
My unit is not writing images to the SD card?
If your unit is not writing images to the SD card please send the unit into the repair center
for a technician to review. Click the 'more info' button below for instructions on returning
product.
On some trail cams what is the Day Time Setting?
This setting allows you to tell the trail camera what your day light hours in your area are.
This on some models determines when it will use the LED’s for a light source versus the

flash and on other models this setting will determine when a filter is in place to allow
proper night vision photos.
Photos Do Not Capture Subject of Interest
1. Check that the “Sensor Level” (PIR sensitivity) parameter setting. For warm
environmental conditions, set the Sensor Level to “High” and for cold weather
use, set the sensor for “Low”.
2. Try to set your camera up in an area where there is not a heat source in the
camera’s line of sight.
3. In some cases, setting the camera near water will make the camera take images
with no subject in them. Try aiming the camera over ground.
4. Try to avoid setting the camera up on small trees that are prone to being moved by
strong winds.
5. Remove any limbs which are right in front of the camera lens.
PIR Sensor LED Flashes/Doesn’t Flash
When the camera is in the “Setup” mode, a special LED on the front of the camera will
flash when it senses motion. This is for setup purposes only and will help the user aim the
camera.
During use, the LED will not flash when the camera takes an image. This is to help keep
the camera hidden from game.
Still Photo and/or Video Quality Problems
Night photos or videos appear too dark
Check the battery indicator icon to see if battery power is full. The flash will stop
operating near the end of the battery life.
You will get the best results when the subject is within the ideal flash range, no
farther than 45’ (14m) from the camera. Subjects may appear too dark at greater
distances.
Please note that when the Capture Number parameter is set higher than “1 Photo”,
or with very short Interval settings, some images may appear darker than others
due to the quick response and rapid retriggering of the camera, allowing less time
for the flash to fully recharge before firing again.
Daytime photos or videos appear too dark
Make sure that the camera is not aimed at the sun or other light sources during the
day, as this may cause the auto exposure to produce darker results.

Night photos or videos appear too bright
You will get the best results when the subject is within the ideal flash range, no
closer than 10’ (3m) from the camera. Subjects may appear too light at closer
distances.
Daytime photos or videos appear too bright
Make sure that the camera is not aimed at the sun or other light sources during the
day.
Photos with streaked subject
In some cases with low lighting conditions and fast moving subjects, the 5MP or
8MP resolution settings may not perform as well as the 3MP setting.
If you have multiple images where fast moving subjects produce streaks on the
photo, try the 3MP setting instead.
Red, green or blue color cast
Under certain lighting conditions, the sensor can become confused resulting in
poor color images.
If this is seen on a consistent basis, then the sensor may need servicing. Please
contact Bushnell customer service.
Short video clips—not recording to the length set
Check to make sure that the SD card is not full.
Make sure that the camera has good batteries in it. Near the end of the battery life,
the camera may choose to record shorter video clips to conserve power.
Trophy Cam date/time Stamp not appearing on images
Make sure that the “Time Stamp” setting is set to “On” in the Menu.
Trophy Cam LCD Screen Issues
1. LCD screen powers on but no text is present.

oWhen moving the switch from “Off” to “Setup” or “On”, the user should
make sure that the switch stops in a positive position to ensure the proper
mode.
oWhen moving the switch from “On” to “Setup”, the user should first move
the switch directly to “Off” before moving to “Setup”.
2. LCD screen shows a faint black line after turning from “Setup” to “On”.
oThe LCD will turn off when you slide the switch to the “On” position. In
some cases, this black line will appear and will fade in about 1 second.
This is normal and the camera will function properly.
3. Screen will come on and power off
oMake sure that you have installed the SD card correctly.
Trophy Cam stops taking images or won’t take images
1. Please make sure that the SD card is not full. If the card is full, the camera will
stop taking images.
2. Check batteries to make sure that they are new alkaline or lithium AA batteries.
See note about short battery life.
3. Make sure that the camera power switch is in the “On” position and not in the
“Off” or “Setup” modes.
4. Make sure that you are using a good quality SD card in your camera. Bushnell
recommends San Disk Brand SD Cards.
Trophy Camera is taking images without subject in the field
of view
1. Check the PIR Sensitivity Level Setting. For warm temperature use, set the sensor
to “High” and for cold weather use, set the sensor for “Low”.
2. Try to set your camera up in an area where there is not a heat source in the
camera’s line of sight.
3. In some cases, setting a camera near water will make the camera take images with
no subject in them. Try aiming the camera over ground.

Trophy Camera won’t power up
1. Make sure that you have installed at least 4 batteries in the battery compartment
all stacked together at the top of the compartment.
oBushnell recommends 8 Energizer Lithium AA batteries in all Trophy
Cams.Make sure that the batteries are installed correctly. See manual.

2. When moving the switch from “Off” to “Setup” or “On”, the user should make
sure that the switch stops in a positive position to ensure the proper mode.
3. When moving the switch from “On” to “Setup”, the user should first move the
switch directly to “Off” before moving to “Setup”.
Trophy Camera won’t retain settings
1. Make sure that you have saved the changes that you make during the menu setup
of the camera.
2. If you don’t select and save these settings, the camera will revert back to the
default settings.
What do I do if I forget my password?
Password recovery can be facilitated by contacting our customer service line at 1-800-
423-3537 pressing option 2 in the main menu. Your units serial number will be needed
for this process.
What happens if I take off the filter on Model#11-9900?
If you take the filter off the 11-9900, the pictures taken, both during the day and at night,
will be in black and white (nightvision mode).
What is the battery life for a Bushnell Trail Sentry?
The Bushnell Trail Sentry has a battery life up to 60 days.
What is the resolution of the video clips on the Trophy cam?
On High Quality: 640X480 and Low Quality : 320X240

What should I do if my pictures are out of focus?
If your pictures are out of focus, please call customer service. The customer service
representative will ask you to email them a sample picture. It's possible your unit may
need to be sent to our repair center for a technician to review.
What should I do if the unit locks up and the display will not
change?
If your unit locks up and the display will not change, remove one battery to break the
connection. Put the battery back in and then turn the unit back on.
What type of batteries should I use in my Trophy Camera?
Bushnell recommends 8 Energizer Lithium AA batteries in all Trophy Cams.
What type of card should I use with my Bushnell Trail
Camera?
Bushnell recommends San Disk Brand SD Cards.
What will the pictures look like if taken at night on the 24
hour mode or on night mode?
You can take night pictures on any unit. The pictures will be in color with the flash. They will look like
any picture taken at night with a flash. The Model#11-9900 can take night pictures. With the filter on,
they will be color pictures. To take night vision pictures that are black and white, you have to take off
the filter.
