1. Introduction
1.1. CAMAG smartCut
The CAMAG smartCut allows cutting TLC and HPTLC plates in de-
fined pieces.
Plates with a thickness of up to 3mm can be cut with the
smartCut.

2. Handling
2.1. Use of smartCut
Position the TLC plate in the smartCut and align it against the rul-
er to select the desired size of the piece to be cut-off.
Note that the plate should only be cut when the chromato-
graphic layer faces down!
To score, hold down the plate with one hand while with the other
hand first position the cutter head at the upper edge of the plate,
and then move it with gentle pressure towards the lower edge of
the plate where the pressure is released.(Fig.1) To break the plate
at the score keep holding it down with one hand while pressing
with the other hand on the portion of the plate that extends out-
side of the smartCut until it brakes. (Fig.2.)

2.2. Replacing the glass cutter
When the glass cutter lost sharpness it can easily be replaced. To
replace the glass cutter remove the two screws in front of the
glass cutter retainer (Fig.3)

Replace the glass-cutter with a new one Fig. 4.

Press the glass cutter back to its normal upper position and tight-
en the screws. (Fig.5) and (Fig.6)
Do not over tighten the screws!
