Introduction
Thank you for choosing Carpenter Mfg. Co., Inc. for your wire processing equipment
needs. For over 60 years Carpenter has been a leader in wire processing technology
and service. As an independently-owned, third generation company our philosophy has
always been to provide the customer with both quality products and outstanding service.
We look forward to a long, healthy relationship with you and our company.
The Model 59 Wire Prefeed & Dereelercan process a wide range of material, as
referenced on the following pages. These processing specifications are based upon the
most commonly manufactured materials. Special applications may arise with materials
that are within the specification limits of the machine but are very difficult or
unsuccessful to process. Likewise, materials that exceed the specified limits of the
machine may sometimes be processed successfully. Because there are many
variables involved in wire processing, we strongly recommend a free material
evaluation, to be completed at our factory (http://carpentermfg.com/wire-evaluation/). A
demonstration from a Carpenter representative is also recommended to ensure the
ultimate success of your material processing application.
This operating manual explains how to operate the Model 59 Wire Prefeed & Dereeler.
To ensure the best performance of your machine, read this manual carefully until you
familiarize yourself thoroughly with its operation and features. After you have read
through the manual, keep it available for reference.
Use this manual as a quick and handy reference tool for clarifying any questions that
may arise. If you have any questions about this machine or service please let us know.

Figure 7: Material Spool Correctly Loaded onto Dereeler Axel Assembly
Loading Material into the Model 59
Follow the steps below to load material into the Model 59. Refer to Figure 6 above to
aid in parts identification.
1. Manually pull approximately twenty-five (25) feet of material from the material
spool. Open the upper and lower PN 5549 cams that cover the PN 5333
accumulator pulleys.
2. Thread the material around the PN 5333 accumulator pulleys. Refer to Figure 8
through Figure 10 below for three material routing options.
a. The Model 59 is supplied with (1) PN 5522 1.25-pound pulley weight,
attached to the lower (4) PN 5333 accumulator pulleys. This weight is
designed to aid in processing solid conductor, rigid multi-conductor, or
large AWG stranded wire. Due to the rigid construction of these types of
materials it may be necessary to use only one set of the PN 5333
accumulator pulleys (i.e. threading material around only once [refer to
Figure 10 below]).
b. The Model 59 allows for an optional PN 5521 2.5-pound pulley weight.
This is for use when processing the heaviest, most-rigid material
appropriate for the Model 59.

c. To process smaller AWG wire, it may be necessary to remove the PN
5522 1.25-pound pulley weight to avoid stretching the wire during the
dereeling process. To remove the PN 5522 1.25-pound pulley weight,
loosen the PN 3733 cap screw and remove the PN 5524 weight cap.
Remove the PN 5522 1.25-pound pulley weight and reinstall the PN 5524
weight cap and PN 3733 cap screw, tightening accordingly.

Section 3 –Machine Setup and Operation
1. Plug the female end of the power cord into the power entry module, located on
the left side of the machine. Plug the male end into a proper electrical outlet.
Turn the power switch, located on the top of the machine cabinet, to the ON
position; this will illuminate the power indicator light.
2. Feed the end of the material into the processing machine. Refer to the
processing machine operating instructions for information on how to correctly
load material into the machine.
3. When the processing machine is properly loaded with material, adjust the PN
5262 extension arm (shown in Figure 6 above) up or down until the material is
level with the processing machine.
4. Adjust belt pressure with the PN 8449 drive adjusting knob. The adjustments
read MORE and LESS. The goal of this adjustment is to achieve enough
pressure so the material does not slip. Too much pressure will result in
premature belt wear.
5. The PN 5406 speed control knob is located on the top of the machine cabinet.
The goal of this adjustment is to achieve an even flow of movement of the lower
PN 5333 accumulator pulleys in an up-and-down motion that is consistent with
the speed of the processing machine.
a. Proper speed adjustment is crucial to trouble-free operation. If the speed
is set too fast, there is a potential for material overrun.
6. When the Model 59 is ready for operation and all above settings are adjusted
accordingly, the operator may begin processing material. If necessary, refer to
the processing machine operating instructions for information on how to correctly
process material.
7. If the PN 5508 circuit breaker, located on the left side of the machine cabinet
(shown in Figure 1 above), trips, wait 10-15 minutes before resetting. To reset,
simply push the white button back into the housing.
