The CB XPand converts a 7.1 XMon or A-Mon system to a 7.1.4 or 9.1.2 ATMOS system by
add ng 8 extra channels to your ex st ng system.
XPand prov des up to 8 channels n the ma n nput and output path of the XMon or A-Mon.
Where only 4 channels are requ red the XPand can be used to sw tch the rear surround to
s de when sw tch ng from Atmos/7.1 to 5.1.
•Connects n parallel w th the Av d XMon v a 15 p n VGA cable and
converter box (Both are ncluded w th the XPand).
•Connects n parallel w th the Av d XMon v a 15 p n VGA cable
(Included).
•Can be controlled from Av d ICON console Mon tor Sect on
• Fully supported by XPAND Mon tor Controller
•Two modes:- 8 Channel, 4 Channel (7.1.4, 9.1.2)
•4 Channel Mode: Sw tch Rear speakers to s de n 5.1
•4 Channel Mode: Surround Bass Extens on outputs

The XPand front panel has the follow ng control and nd cators
•Power LED: On when connected to Power
•Mute LED: On when Hardware Mute s act vated and ALL nputs and outputs
are muted
•Comms LED: Ind cates commun cat ons rece ved from TMC-1. When key s
depressed or the knob s turned the LED w ll flash as the commands
are rece ved, otherw se the LED w ll flash about once a second.
•Mute Sw tch: Enable/D sable Hardware Mute, the Mute and Unmute command
from the remote w ll also d sable the Hardware Mute.

•8 Balanced Inputs on 25 p n ‘D’
•8 balanced Outputs on 25 p n ‘D’
•A-Mon/XMon: HD15
•TMC-1: HD15, when used w th XMon a converter s suppl ed.
•USB: Software updates and conf gurat on sett ng. The USB s also used
when controlled from the ICON to set up XPand and to cal brate the
outputs us ng the TMC-1-W n/Mac App.

XPand s housed n a 1U Rack Mount box, The 1U mount ng ears are sh pped w th the un t
and attached w th M5 CSK screws.
XPand should be mounted next to the A-Mon or XMon, a 1 meter VGA cable s ncluded to
connect between the two un ts. The connect ons w ll depend on f the or g nal XMon cable
s used. Please spec fy the cables used when order ng so that the appropr ate converter
box may be ncluded.
Setting XPand Internal links
Surround Bass xtension
Two nternal l nks are used to select outputs 5 and 6 between nputs 5&6 or the sum of the
left and r ght surround channels followed by a low pass f lter to prov de left and r ght
surround bass extens on outputs. If you w sh to use the surround bass extens on opt on on
XPand you must repos t on two l nks w th n the Un t and set the XPand conf gurat on. The
mages below show the pos t ons of these l nks.

Once the L nks have been set the appropr ate flag must be set n the Xpand software us ng
the TMC-1 support program on Mac or W ndows v a the USB Port.
Default: No Surround Bass Extension Surround Bass Extension Enabled
7.1 to 5.1 Switching
The XPand prov des surround sw tch ng between Atmos, 7.1 and 5.1. When sw tch ng from
7.1.4 to 5.1 the rear surrounds speakers are connected to the s de surrounds. When
sw tch ng from 9.1.2 to 7.1 the front s de speakers are connected to the s de surrounds.
When sw tch ng from 9.1.2 to 5.1 the rear surrounds are connected to the s de surrounds.

Connecting TMC-1 or Icon to XPand with A-Mon or
XMon
XPAND uses a VGA connector for the remote. The XPAND s suppl ed w th a converter box
to allow easy connect on to the X-Mon 15 p n ‘D’. When order ng please adv se the system
setup so that we can supply the correct converter.

The extra XPand channels are enabled when the Main Input is routed to the Main
Output and adds up to 8 extra channels. The XPand level control will follow the
Master Gain control.
From the TMC-1
Speaker Solo Mutes and trims are controlled directly from the TMC-1 The XPand
format is enabled in the TMC-1 advanced setup.

Firmware Updates
The USB Port s also used to update the XPAND f rmware. Updates are posted on the XPAND
product page. See the XPAND Reference for more nformat on:

The Mute LED s used to nd cate the Programm ng mode as follows
•Mute LED Flash ng approx mately once per second – Ready to program
•Mute LED Flash ng approx mately tw ce per second – Programm ng
•Mute LED Flash ng approx mately once per two seconds – F n shed programm ng
Recovery Mode
If for any reason there s a problem when reprogramm ng (eg. Power Fa lure) a recovery
mode s prov ded.
To enter recovery mode, d sconnect the power for at least 5 seconds, then reconnect w th
the Mute key depressed. You w ll need to reselect the USB port used by M d Upd.
The Mute LED w ll flash at approx mately 1 second ntervals to nd cate that the dev ce s
ready to program.
