1. GENERA INFORMATION

1.1. WARRANTED INFORMATION
The ADA-M140 converter i covered by a two year warranty from date of ale. The warranty doe not cover damage cau ed from
improper u e, material con umption or any unauthorized change . If the product doe not function (i damaged), or not operate in
accordance with the in truction will be repaired.
All warranty and no warranty repair mu t be returned with paid tran port and in uring to the CE -MAR Company.
CE -MAR Company under no circum tance won't be re pon ible for en uing damage from improper u ing the product or a a re ult
of random cau e : the lightning di charge, the flood, the fire and the like.
CE -MAR Company i not be held re pon ible for damage and lo including: lo of profit , lo of data, pecuniary lo e en uing
from u ing or the impo ibility of u ing thi product.
In pecific ca e CEL-MAR Company di continue all warrantie and in particular do not follow the u er manual and do not accept

1.2. GENERA CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USE
The device hould be in talled in a afe and table place (eg, electroin tallation cabinet), the powering cable hould be arranged o
a not to be expo ed to trampling, attaching, or pulling out of the circuit.
Do not put device on the wet urface.
Do not connect device for nonde cript powering ource ,
Do not damage or cru h powering wire .
Do not make connection with wet hand .
Do not adapt, open or make hole in ca ing of the device!
Do not immer e device in water or no other liquid.
Do not put the fire opened on device ource : candle , an oil lamp and the like.
Complete di able from the upply network i only after di connecting the power upply circuit voltage.
Do not carry out the a embly or di -a embly of the device if it i enabled. Thi may re ult to hort circuit and damage the device.
The device can not be u ed for application that determine human life and health (eg. Medical).

2. PRODUCT INFORMATION
2.1. PROPERTIES

2.2. DESCRIPTION
ADA-M140 converter (SHORT-HAUL MODEM) i u e for conver ion of RS485/RS422 to M-1 tandard, without interfering with format
of tran mitted data. The converter tran mit data with baud rate up to 115,2 kbp via two-pair of twi ted-pair, connected to terminal :
Tx+, Tx-, Rx+, Rx- of M-1 interface and two or one twi ted-pair, connected to terminal : Tx+/A, Tx-/B, Rx+, Rx- of RS485/RS422
interface' converter.
ADA-M140 converter are u ed for eparation and exten ion of RS485/422 bu , for next egment of length up to 12km (baud rate
9600bp ).
The di tance will be reduced in ca e of tran mitting data with large baud rate (over 9600bp ). The converter can be u e for
communication with other, remote from each other device equipped with RS485 / RS422 interface eg. controller .
To RS485/RS422 bu , created on the ba e ADA-M140, can be connected up to 32 device , operate in half duplex or full duplex
mode . To M-1 bu , created on the ba e ADA-M140, can be connected 2 device , operate in half duplex or full duplex mode .
Galvanic i olation 1kVDC and optoi olaction ~3kVDC in ignal channel, eparate RS485/RS422 interface from M-1 interface of
converter. Protect device connected to RS485/RS422 port from overvoltage generated on the bu connected to M-1 interface and in
power circuit. Overvoltage protection wa made on ba e afety diode and fu e on each M-1and RS485/422 line .
ADA-M140 hould be powered from tabili ed power pack with minimum power output 3W and voltage from the cope 10 – 30VDC.

2.3. ISO ATION
ADA-M140 converter ha (depend on ver ion) 2-way or 3-way and 1kV= galvanic i olation. The de cription are in the ection

3. INSTA ATION
Thi chapter will how how to connect ADA-M140 to M-1 and RS485/RS422 interface and to the power upply and how to u e it.
To reduce di turbance from environment, it i recommended to:
–u e multi-pair type hielded cable , which hield can be connected to the earthing on one end of the cable,
–u e the uitable diameter cable for power upply on account of voltage drop,
–u e the powering cable with a uitable ection becau e of the voltage drop ,
–u e the interference eliminator for powering the converter,
–lay ignal cable at a di tance of not le than 25 cm away from power cable ,
–not powering the converter form the power-circuit of device generate large impul e di turbance like contactor , relay , inverter .
3.1. ASSEMB ING
ADA-M140 ca e i adapted to a embly on TS-35 (DIN35) rail. To in tall converter hould mount device on the rail upper part of the
ca e then pre bottom part to hearing characteri tic „Click” ound.
3.2. CONNECTION TO COMPUTER
ADA-M140 can be connected to computer by the u e of additional converter USB to RS485/RS422 eg. ADA-I9140.
Example connection of 4-wire and 2-wire bu e are hown on the figure below.

3.3. RS422 / RS485 BUS CONNECTION
The RS485/RS422 interface at ADA-M140 converter i available on terminal block de cribed a : Tx+/A, Tx-/B, Rx+, Rx-, GND. ADA-
M140 can operate on RS422 bu and RS485(4W) and RS485(2W). The both bu e hould be the proper wiring. Example wiring are
hown on figure below.

3.3.2. GND TERMINA CONNECTION
Connection of GND terminal of RS485/422 interface , device connected to RS485/422 bu , hould be done in the ca e of a
potential difference of the ignal ground on interface RS485 / RS422, which prevent proper data tran mi ion.
Cannot connect to the GND terminal - cables screens, PE circuit of electrical installation, signals grounds of other devices.

3.3.3. INE TERMINATION Rt
The application of Line Termination (terminator) Rt = 120 W (ohm ) will reduce electrical reflection in data line at high baud rate. It i
not needed below 9600Bd. The Line Termination re i tor hould be u ed if the di tance i over 1000m @ 9600Bd or 700m @
19200Bd tran mi ion, the re i tor can be nece ary if there are problem with the tran mi ion correctne . The Rt terminator i
integrated in the converter and activated by the u e of SW2 micro- witch.

3.4.2. GND-R & GND-T TERMINA S CONNECTION
Connection of GND terminal of M-1 interface , converter connected to M-1 bu , hould be done in the ca e of a potential difference
of the ignal ground on interface M-1, which prevent proper data tran mi ion. Optionally, combine terminal GND-T withGND-R.
Cannot connect to the GND-T & GND-R terminals - cables screens, PE circuit of electrical installation, signals grounds of
other devices.
3.5. POWER SUPP Y
The power upply to ADA-M140 hould be DC (regulated) from the cope 10 V= to 30V= and nominal power min. 3W eg. ZS-12/500
or DR-15-24. The power cable from DC power upplie to the device mu t not be longer than 3m.
Ob erve the polarity, connect po itive (+) of DC power upplie to V+ and negative (-) end to V- terminal. ADA-M140 ha the
protection from oppo ite connection power upply. If after power, on the front panel i not lit green LED PWR, check the power
connection (polarity).
4. CONFIGURATION
For configuration of ADA-M140 operating mode u e a four-po ition dip witch SW1 and two-po ition dip witch SW2.
The location of SW1 and SW2 are hown on the figure 1.
For etting, remove the cover and u e mall, flat crewdriver.

6. ACTIVATION
Converter can be powered after proper connection according to tep above.
If connection wa made properly green LED PWR on front panel of converter hould light, if not check polarization of power
connection. When data i pre ent the LED Tx and Rx hould blinking.
