1.1. WARRANTED INF RMATI N
The ADA-4028LA converter i covered by a two year warranty from date of ale. In ca e of being damaged it will be repair or the
damaged component will be replace. The warranty doe not cover damage cau ed from improper u e, material con umption or any
unauthorized change . If the product doe not function (i damaged), or not operate in accordance with the in truction , will be
repaired or replaced.
All warranty and no warranty repair mu t be returned with paid tran port and in uring to the CEL-MAR Company.
CEL-MAR Company under no circum tance won't be re pon ible for en uing damage from improper u ing the product or a a re ult
of random cau e : the lightning di charge, the flood, the fire and the like.

The device hould be in talled in a afe and table place (eg, electroin tallation cabinet), the powering cable hould be arranged o
a not to be expo ed to trampling, attaching, or pulling out of the circuit.
Do not put device on the wet urface.

2.2. DESCRIPTI N
The ADA-4028LA addre able baud rate converter i device olving the problem of connecting no addre able device equipped with
the Current Loop CLO interface to multipoint RS485/422 bu by adding the addre to the no-addre able device. At the ame time
the converter convert RS485/422 tandard to Current Loop CLO tandard with po ibility of changing the baud rate and format of the
tran mitted data. Depending on the configuration can be et the baud rate, number of data bite , parity (None, Odd, Even) and
number of top bit . The etting can be different for Current Loop CLO port and RS485/422 port.
The ADA-4028LA upport the a ynchronou baud rate up to 230,4 kbp via one or two pair of twi ted-pair cable of RS485/422
interface, and up to 19,2 kbp on 2-wire Current Loop CLO bu .
The ADA-4028LA converter with active tran mitter allow connection to the RS485/422 bu device with pa ive Current Loop CLO
interface eg. energy meter like POZYTON LZQM, ELSTER A1500, PAFAL and other , with po ibility of conver ion the format and
baud rate between connected device to Current Loop CLO interface and RS485/422 bu .
The ADA-4028LA i equipped with crew terminal block for connection of RS485/422, Current Loop CLO and power upply. Over-
voltage protection on each RS485/422 line and Current Loop, wa made on the ba e over-voltage LED' and the fu e . To
RS485/422 bu created by the u e ADA-4028LA, i po ible to connect 32 device , operating in half duplex mode (query /re pon e)
on 2 or 4 wire multipoint bu or full duplex on 4-wire bu . To Current Loop CLO bu created by the u e ADA-4028LA (active), i
po ible to connect 4 device operating in half duplex mode.
The converter ha an internal low-energy urge protection for each line of Current Loop CLO interface. However, for the lightning
protection hould be u ed external lightning arre ter uch a the typical phone line protection.

2.3. CURRENT L P TRANSMITTER & RECEIVER
The converter ADA-4028LA i produced with active or pa ive Current Loop tran mitter.
The converter with Current Loop active tran mitter ha the tran mitter on ba e power ource generating the 0-20mA or 0-30mA
(depend on ver ion) and pa ive receiver compri ing the optocoupler. ADA-4028LA with Current Loop pa ive tran mitter ha the
tran mitter on ba e power ource generating the 20mA or 0-30mA (depend on ver ion) and pa ive receiver compri ing the
optocoupler.
2.4. IS LATI N
Converter ADA-4028LA ha 3-way, 1kV= or 3kV= galvanic i olation (depend on ver ion, de cribed in ection VERSIONS).

3. INSTALLATI N
Thi chapter will how how to connect ADA-4028LA to RS485 bu , Current Loop line and power upply and how to u e it.
To reduce di turbance from environment, it i recommended to:
–u e multipair type hielded cable , which hield can be connected to the earthing on one end of the cable,
–u e the uitable diameter cable for power upply on account of voltage drop,
–u e the powering cable with a uitable ection becau e of the voltage drop ,
–u e the interference eliminator for powering the converter,
–lay ignal cable at a di tance of not le than 25 cm away from power cable ,
–not powering the converter form the power-circuit of device generate large impul e di turbance like contactor , relay , inverter .
3.1. ASSEMBLING
ADA-4028LA converter ca e i adapted to a embly on TS-35 (DIN35) rail. To in tall converter hould mount device on the rail upper
part of the ca e then pre bottom part to hearing characteri tic „Click” ound.
3.2. C NNECTI N T PC
The ADA-4028LA can be connected to RS232 port or USB of PC by the u e of additional converter eg. RS232 to RS485 (ADA-1040)
or USB to RS485 (ADA-I9140). The connection i made via RS485 bu or RS422 bu , a on the figure bellow.

3.3.3. GND TERMINALS C NNECTI N
Connection of GND terminal of RS485/422 interface , device connected to RS485/422 bu , hould be done in the ca e of a
potential difference of the ignal ground on interface RS485 / RS422, which prevent proper data tran mi ion.
Cannot connect to the GND terminal - cables screens, PE circuit of electrical installation, signals grounds of other devices.
3.3.4. LINE TERMINATI N
The application of Line Termination (terminator) Rt = 120 ohm will reduce electrical reflection in data line at high baud rate. It i not
needed below 9600Bd. The Line Termination re i tor hould be u ed if the di tance i over 1000m @ 9600Bd or 700m @ 19200Bd
tran mi ion, the re i tor can be nece ary if there are problem with the tran mi ion correctne . Example connection of Rt are
hown on Fig. 5 & 6. Re i tor Rt = 120 W, 5%, 0.25W of a 2 pc. i complete with the device ADA-4028LA.

3.4. P WER SUPPLY
The power upply to ADA-4028LA hould be DC (regulated) from the cope 10 V= to 30V= and nominal power more then 2W. The
power cable from DC power upplie to the device mu t not be longer than 3m. Ob erve the polarity, connect po itive (+) of DC power
upplie to V+ and negative (-) end to V- terminal. The ADA-4028LA ha the protection from oppo ite connection power upply.
If after power, on the front panel i not lit green LED PWR, check the power connection (polarity).
4. ACTIVATI N
Converter can be powered after proper connection according to tep above.
If connection wa made properly green LED PWR on front panel of converter hould light, if not check polarization of power
connection and if RX LED i lighted check connection correctne of Current Loop CLO tran mitter circuit. Lighting thi LED indicate
non flow of current through optocoupler in receiver circuit.
During correctne data tran ition via the converter the LED Tx and Rx hould blinking.
4.1. SIGNALING LEDS

4.2. SENSITIVITY SETTING F CURRENT L P CL RECEIVER
Device with a pa ive interface CLO may have different current value in the logical zero tate, therefore hould be et the converter
receiver en itivity. Wrong adju tment of receiver en itivity i revealed by not lit of RX LED during data receiving from connected
device (eg. energy counter) de pite the correct connection to converter. The en itivity i et by adding additional re i tor to Rd and
CLO+ crew terminal block. If the re i tor i correct RX LED will be blinking during data receiving. ADA-4028LA converter i upplied
with re i tor Rd = 220W / 0,25W and 120W / 0,25W.

5. C NFIGURATI N
5.1. PERATI N M DE
ADA-4028LA converter can operate in a few mode :
–run,
–configuration,
–factory default,
–emergency firmware update
Tho e mode can be et by u e SW1 located by terminal block RS455/RS422. To et the witch ection, hould remove terminal
cover marked a SW1 and make the appropriate etting by the u e a mall, flat crewdriver.
All available adju ting the SW1 witch are hown in table below.

5.2. C NFIGURATI N BY THE USE F ADAC NFIG
The configuration of ADA-4040A converter hould be done by u e of ADAConfig oftware - elling with converter.
To make the configuration, connect converter to computer ( ee pt. 3.2) and power upply. If after power, on the front panel i not lit
green LED PWR, check the power connection (polarity). If the PWR LED light , et the ection of SW1 witch to configuration mode
a in table below.

In the configuration mode the yellow LED located by SW1 micro- witch will blink with frequency 1 Hz. Start the ADAConfig oftware
and make the configuration of tran mi ion parameter for each interface and et hi vi ible addre from RS485 bu . Fir tly hould
be et a number of COM port for communication with the converter, then readout the configuration from converter' memory u ing the
button [Read converter configuration] and make the proper change of interface etting.
5.2.1. C NFIGURATI N F ADDRESSING M DE
If the option Converter Addre will be enabled, on configuration window hould be et a proper converter addre from range 1 - 255.
If thi option i di abled the converter will operate a baud rate converter.
5.2.2. C NFIGURATI N F BAUD RATE AND DATA F RMAT
In both operating mode (addre ing / baud rate converter), i po ible to et additional tran mi ion parameter for RS485/422 &
Current Loo CLO interface eparately.
For RS485/RS422 interface:

5.3. FIRMWARE UPDATE
Set SW1 micro witch to configuration mode a in table below.

In the configuration mode the yellow LED will blink with frequency 1Hz. Pre a button [Load New Firmware] to change the oftware
delivered by manufacturer. The Select File window will open (Fig.11) and elect the *.bin file then click [Open] - oftware will be load
to ADAConfig buffer torage and will be checked. If the ADAConfig not detect error in loaded file, change converter oftware.

After micro- witch etting, hould be re tarted the ADA-4028LA, by turning OFF and then ON the power upply. The yellow LED will
light continuou ly and the converter will be in Emergency Firmware Update mode. Now follow the de cription in point FIRMWARE

5.6. DATA TRANSMISSI N DIAGN STICS
To readout diagno tic hould be et SW1 micro witch to the configuration mode ( ee pt. OPERATION MODE).
Correctne of tran mi ion proceed on Current Loop interface and RS485/422 interface can be checked by readout the error li t by
ADAConfig Software form the converter memory. Frame error counter will be increa ed, in ca e of: improper peed et compared to
real peed of data tran mi ion. Parity error counter will be count the error which can ari e in ca e of mi repre ent byte in
tran mitted ign. Thi counter will not work in ca e of di able control parity. To check tho e counter pre the button [Read
transmission errors], and to delete (zeroing of counter in the memory of the converter) pre [Delete transmission errors].
In ca e of parity error or frame error , hould be checked the ADA-4028LA converter' configuration and correctne connection of
RS485 bu and Current Loop device to the converter port .

6. PERATI N
The ADA-4028LA converter can operate in to two mode : not addre able and addre able.
6.1. PERATI N IN N N ADDRESSABLE M DE
In thi mode the ADA-4028LA operate a baud rate converter and data format converter and let to et different baud rate and data
format on Current Loop CLO & RS485/422 interface .
It let connect to RS485 network old device operate with non-configure baud rate and data format, on which operate device with
different baud rate or data format.
6.2. PERATI N IN ADDRESSABLE M DE
In thi mode ADA-4028LA operate a baud rate converter and data format converter and let to connect no addre able device with
Current Loop CLO interface, tran mitting data at different rate and format of data frame to the RS485 bu , in the proce of enabling
the cooperation with addre able device .
Example connection of ADA-4028LA i hown on fig. 12.
On RS485 bu the frame of protocol for no addre able device connected to Current Loop CLO port of ADA-4028LA hould be
created in the following way:

ADDRESS ADA-4028LA - one byte of addre from 1-255 cope, - et in the memory of ADA-4028LA
during configuration in u e of ADAConfig,
FRAME F N ADDRESSABLE DEVICES - free equence of byte containing the appropriate frame of device, connected
to Current Loop CLO port. Not longer than 950 byte .
ADA-4028LA converter with et up addre ing i li tening con tantly to frame on RS485 bu via RS485/422 port. If received frame
contain byte of addre equal to addre of converter, then another byte of frame are received, right up to ilence on RS-485 bu
equal to ' pace between frame in ign '. If the frame i received correctly, the addre byte i deleted and tran mitted over a typical
to the Current Loop CLO port. In ca e of error in received frame, it i n't tran mitted to the Current Loop CLO. In thi ca e hould be
end the previou frame one more.
The frame received from device connected to Current Loop CLO port i being te ted of tran mi ion error and in ca e of their
mi ing the converter add addre to the beginning of frame and end it to RS485/422 bu through RS485/RS422 port. Frame
containing error i n't being tran mitted to RS485/422 port. In ca e of tran mitting of frame containing more than 950 byte converter
receive only 950 byte and next are ignored. ADA- 4028LA ha equipped with eparate buffer for RS485/422 and Current Loop CLO,
therefore converter can operate in full duplex mode on RS-422 and RS-485 4-wire bu .
Additionally, can be et data flow control for RS485/RS422 interface according to pt. CONFIGURATION BY THE USE OF
ADACONFIG.
