Connections
(1) This barrier adopts knock-down connector with screw terminals. The
intrinsically safe (IS for short) terminals (blue plugs) should be
connected to hazardous area devices and the non-IS ones (green plugs)
to the safe area devices;
(2). Blue-marked wires should be chosen for hazardous area, which

minimum cross section area should be 0.5 mm ,and minimum dielectric
strength should be 500V;
(3). Wiring between safe area and hazardous area must be separated,
and both have protection bushes;
(4). Wires with 8mm-long bared part should be fixed by M3 bolts. See as
shown below.

Installation
The isolated barrier should be located in safe area, according to the
related requirements in IEC60079-17(EN60079-17) and IEC60079-
19(EN60079-19).
GS8500-EX series isolated barrier are designed for mounting on
35mm DIN guide rail. Install with the following steps:
(1). First, lock bus-powered outlet into guide rail; (If no bus-powered
function, skip this step)
(2). Lock the upside of the barrier into guide rail;
(3). Push the downside of the barrier into rail.
Disassembly
(1). Insert a screwdriver (tip-size≤6mm) into the metal lock on the
bottom of barrier;
(2). Push the screwdriver upwards, then prize the metal lock downwards;
(3). Take the barrier out of guide rail.
(1). Before using the barrier, please check again whether Ex-proof rating
of module is in accord with operating conditions, and wiring and polarity
are correct;
(2). It is unallowed to test insulativity among terminals with a
megameter. If necessary, wires must be cut off before test, or the
internal fuse will blow;
(3). Every product has been tested strictly before leaving factory. If users
find any abnormality in the module, please contact the nearest agent or
our company;
(4). In 5 years from delivery date, if the product works improperly during
normal operation, we will repair or replace it without payment.

Isolated barrier should be located in safe area;
Supply voltage is 24VDC. 220VAC is forbidden;
Users are not allowed to dismantle or repair the barrier, otherwise
it will induce malfunction.

Largest external capacitance (Co) and inductance (Lo) numerical attention in
following conditions:
(1). For circuits containing distributed inductance and capacitance (as in a
cable), Co and Lo are largest permitted values of external capacitance and
inductance;
(2). For circuits combined with cables, when intrinsically safe circuit contains
less than 1% more permitted inductance and capacitance, Co and Lo are
largest permitted values of capacitance and inductance;
(3). For circuits combined with inductors and capacitors, when intrinsically
safe circuit contains more than 1% more permitted inductance and
capacitance (cables excluded), permitted values of capacitance and
inductance should be 50% of mentioned Co and Lo.

Summarize Operation Conditions
Specification
Isolated barriers transfer two-way RS-485 digital signal between
hazardous area and safe area, and provide isolated DC power for field
instruments. The product needs independent power supply, input, output
and power supply isolated galvanically.
(1). Any medium corrupting the cladding made up with chrome, nickel and
silver should not exist in atmosphere. Moreover, turbulence, impact or any
cause of electromagnetic induction (such as big current or spark, etc.) must
be avoided during use.
(2). Operating temperature: -20℃~+60℃
(3). Storage temperature: -40℃~+80℃
(4). Relative humidity: 10%~90%
Intrinsic safety explosion protection loop system
Special requirements have to be confirmed before using the intrinsically
safe explosion protection loop system (intrinsically safe circuit), which is
connected by isolated barrier and intrinsically safe apparatus in field:
(1). The explosion protection level of intrinsically safe apparatus should
meet requirements of operating conditions. The apparatus should pass
explosion protection test and get certificates from state-authorized
explosion protection product certification organizations;
(2). The intrinsic safety parameters of isolated barrier and intrinsically safe
apparatus are both ensured, and comply with 12.2.5 of GB 3836.15-2000;
(3). If any parameter is unclear, the system has to be confirmed by state-
authorized explosion protection product certification organizations.
