This guide describes how to quickly install the Cisco 910 Industrial Router.
For configuration information, see the Cisco 910 Industrial Router documentation on Cisco.com. For system
requirements, important notes, limitations, open and resolved bugs, and documentation updates, see the release notes
on Cisco.com.
Before installing, configuring, or upgrading the Cisco 910 Industrial Router, refer to the Release Notes for the latest
information.
Note: If you are using the 3G models of Cisco 910 Industrial Routers, the Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID), International
Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), and Electronic Serial Number (ESN) are necessary for you to set up the 3G interface to
be used for your service provider carriers. You can use the show cellular unit all command to display MEID, IMEI, and
ESN information. For more information, see the “Monitoring Cellular 3G Information” section in Chapter 20, Configuring
Cellular 3G Setting, of the Cisco 910 Industrial Router Software Configuration Guide.

Overview
Overview
The Cisco 910 Industrial Router is available in following models: IR910-K9, IR910G-K9/IR910G-NA-K9, and IR910W-K9
(Figure 1). IR910-K9 supports only the Ethernet combo uplink, IR910W-K9 supports both Wi-Fi and Ethernet combo
uplink. and IR910G-K9/IR910G-NA-K9 supports both 3G (CDMA-EVDO or HSPA selective) and Ethernet combo uplink.

Installation of the Device
You can install the device to a standard DIN rail, or on a wall or a pole by using the IP55 enclosure and wall/pole mount
kit. For detailed installation procedure, see Mounting Kit Assembly Guide for Cisco 910 Industrial Router.
Before You Begin
Before installing a Cisco 910 Industrial Router, verify that these guidelines are met:
—Sufficient front clearance is available so that the LEDs can be seen.
—Cabling is away from sources of electrical noise, such as radios, power lines, and fluorescent lighting. Make sure
that the cables are safely away from other devices that might damage them.
—Airflow around the device is unrestricted.
—Temperature around the unit does not exceed 70°C.
—Humidity around the device does not exceed 85 percent.
—Altitude at the installation site is below 2000 m.

Mounting to a DIN Rail for Indoor Use
For indoor use, DIN rail mount is the default mounting solution. Figure 6 shows the mounting of the device to a standard
7.5-mm DIN rail.

Follow these steps to mount the device to a DIN rail:
1. Fasten the DIN mount bracket with 4 screws on the rear panel of the device.
2. Position the DIN mount bracket directly in front of the DIN rail, making sure that the DIN rail fits in the space on the
DIN mount bracket.
3. Push the clip at the bottom of the DIN mount bracket to lock the DIN rail.

Indoor Antenna Installation
Follow these steps to install the 3G antenna for IR910G-K9/IR910G-NA-K9, or Wi-Fi antenna for IR910W-K9, for indoor
use:
1. Use two M3 screws to fix the antenna on the chassis, as shown in Figure 7.

2. Attach one end of the cable to the antenna, and the other end to the antenna connector on the panel.
Note: The 3G antenna has a TNC type connector with a black heat shrink tube. The 868MHz LoRa card antenna has
an SMA type connector with a black heat shrink tube. The 433MHz LoRa card antenna has an SMA type connector
with a white heat shrink tube.

3. Place the antenna clip in the approximate location, as shown in Figure 8.

Mounting to a Wall or a Pole for Outdoor Use
You can use IP55 enclosure and the wall/pole mount kit to mount the device to a wall or a pole for outdoor use.

IP55 Dust-and-Water Protection Enclosure Assembly
Figure 9 shows the IP55 dust-and-water protection enclosure assembly. For detailed procedures of installing the chassis

Outdoor Antenna Installation
Follow these steps to install the 3G antenna for IR910G-K9/IR910G-NA-K9, or Wi-Fi antenna for IR910W-K9, for outdoor
use.
1. Attach one end of the cable to the antenna, and the other end to the antenna connector on the panel.
2. Assemble the IP55 enclosure.
3. Use two M3 x 14 mm Phillips screws to fix the antenna to the IP55 case, as shown in Figure 10.
Note: The 3G antenna has a TNC type connector with a black heat shrink tube. The 868MHz LoRa card antenna has
an SMA type connector with a black heat shrink tube. The 433MHz LoRa card antenna has an SMA type connector
with a white heat shrink tube.

Powering On and Logging In to the System
Grounding the Device
Follow these steps to connect the ground cable to the grounding point on the Cisco 910 Industrial Router:
Warning: This equipment must be grounded. Never defeat the ground conductor or operate the equipment in the
absence of a suitably installed ground conductor. Contact the appropriate electrical inspection authority or an
electrician if you are uncertain that suitable grounding is available. Statement 1024
1. Remove the ground terminal screw.
2. Attach the grounding cable to the terminal.
3. Replace and tighten the ground terminal screw.
4. Secure the grounding cable to the wall or pole.

Powering On and Logging In to the System
The Cisco 910 Industrial Router supports dual DC power inputs. The voltage range can be from 12 VDC to 24 VDC. When
the device is installed in an environment requiring AC inputs, use the optional AC power adapter listed in Table 1.
You can access the CLI by connecting the console port to your PC or workstation and accessing the router through a
terminal emulation program.
To power on and log in to the system, follow these steps:
1. Using the supplied RJ-45-to-DB-9 adapter cable, insert the RJ-45 connector into the console port on the router
front panel and to the PC or terminal port.
2. Start the terminal-emulation program on the PC or terminal. The terminal-emulation software, frequently a PC
application such as Hyperterminal or ProcommPlus, makes communication between the router and your PC or
terminal possible.
3. Start a terminal-emulation session.

4. Configure the baud rate and character format of the PC or terminal to match these console port default
characteristics:
—115200 bits per second
—8 data bits
—1 stop bit
—No parity
—None (flow control)
5. Connect the power of the Cisco 910 Industrial Router to an AC/DC power adapter. The PC or terminal displays the
bootloader sequence.
6. Press Enter to display the setup prompt.
Resetting to Factory Mode
To reboot the entire system, press the Reset button and release it immediately. To revert to the factory mode, press and
hold the Reset button for more than 5 seconds.
FCC Class A Notices and Warnings
Statement 2017—Class A Notice for FCC
Modifying the equipment without Cisco’s authorization may result in the equipment no longer complying with FCC
requirements for Class A digital devices. In that event, your right to use the equipment may be limited by FCC regulations,
and you may be required to correct any interference to radio or television communications at your own expense.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of
the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the
equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency
energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio
communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case
users will be required to correct the interference at their own expense.
RF Exposure Safety Notice
To comply with FCC/IC RF Exposure Limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment, the product must be installed and
operated with a minimum separation distance (between nearby person(s) and radiating antenna) according to the
following scenarios:
20cm minimum when the product is operated alone without co-transmitting with a plug-in 3G USB dongle device.
33cm minimum when the product is operated with a plug-in 3G USB device which has maximum of 7W ERP output
power.
For co-transmission scenario which is not covered above, please consult the RF technician or device supplier.
