The HM55litrerangeofuprightcarpetsoil
extractionmachinesaredesignedfortheefficient
cleaningofcarpetsand upholstery.Theyhave
beendesigned forthe professional userto
ensurelongservicelifeandsafeoperation.
Werecommend thatanyusernotfamiliarwith
carpetcleaningshould readtheseuser
instructionsfullybeforeusing themachine.Ifyou
haveanyqueriespleasecontact the supplierwho
youpurchasedthemachine fromorTruvox
Internationalonthecontactdetailsprovidedat
theback.
Thesemachinesmustonlybeusedforthe
manufacturer’sapprovedapplication.TheHM55
litrerange isdesignedforthecleaningand
removal ofnormal carpetsoil.Donotuse the
machinewhereitissuspectedthatthecarpetor
upholsterycontainshealthendangeringdustor
debrissuchasasbestosorchemical waste.If
thisissuspected do notproceed,contactyour
supervisor,supplierorTruvoxInternationalfor
advice.
The followinginstructionscontainimportant
informationaboutthemachine and safetyadvice
forthe operator.
Equipmentmustbeoperated,servicedand
maintained in accordancewiththe
manufacturer’sinstructions.Ifindoubtcontact
thesupplierofyourmachine.
Theseinstructionsarevalidforthefollowing

1.1ImportantSafetyAdvice
Whenusing electricalequipmentbasicsafety
precautionsshould befollowedincludingthe
following.
•Readallinstructionscarefullybeforeuse.
•Keepchildrenandunauthorisedpersons
awayfromthe machinewheninuse.
•Donot leavethemachine connectedtothe
electricitysupplywhennotin use;always
removetheplugfromthesocket-outlet.
•Switchoffthemachinebeforeremoving the
plug.
•Whenunplugging pullthe plug,notthesupply
cord.
•Donot operateswitchesortouchthemains
plug withwethandsasthismaycauseelectric
shock.
•Theplugofthepowersupplycordmustbe
removed fromthesocket-outletbefore
commencingcleaning ofthemachineor

1.2Guidelinesfortheoperator
•Operatorsmustbefullytrainedintheuseof
themachinein accordancewiththese

maintenanceandthecorrectselectionof
accessories.
•Operatorsshould bephysicallycapableto
manoeuvre,transportand operatethe
machine.
•Operatorsshould beabletorecognise
unusual operation ofthemachineandreport
anyproblems.
•Wearsuitablefootweartoavoid slipping.
•Wearsuitableclothingtokeepdryandwarm.
•Wherepossible implementjobrotationand
adequaterestperiodstoavoid continuoususe
ofthesamemuscles.
•Donot leavethemachinerunning
unattended.
•Donot allowchildren tocrawlon carpetsuntil
thoroughlydry.
•Keepcleaningsolutionsawayfromchildren
and petsatall times.
•Donot smokewhenusingthemachine.
•Donot putanyobjectsintoopenings. Do not
usewithanyopening blocked:keepfreeof
duct, lint, hair,oranythingthat mayreduceair
flow.
•CAUTION -Thismachineisforindooruse
onlyandshould notbeused orstored
outdoorsorinwet conditions.
•WARNING –Should waterorfoamemitfrom
themachineexhaust switchoffimmediately
and refertoinstructionsfor Usingthe
Machine.
1.3Transportingthemachine
Whentransportingthemachine ensurethatall
components,tanks and removablepartsare
securelyfastened,andthatthesupplycordand
plug arenot trailing. Detachhoseandwandfrom
machineforeaseofcarriage.
Donot liftortransportthemachine whilst
containingliquidasthiswilladd considerablyto
theweight.

Takeextremecarewhenmovingthemachineup
ordownstepsorstairs.
CAUTION –Incorrectlifting techniquesmay
resultinpersonal injury.Weadvisethatthe
manualhandlingregulationsarefollowed.
1.4Electrical connection
•Beforeconnecting themachine tothepower
supply,checkthatyoursupplyvoltage
correspondswiththatmarkedontherating
label ontherearofthemachine.
UK only
•Thesupplycordisfitted withanonrewireable
plug containinga13ampfuse.Should the
fuserequirereplacementitmustonlybe
replaced bya13ampfuseconforming to
BS1362,and thefusecovermustberefitted.
Ifthefusecoverislosttheplug mustnotbe
useduntilthecorrectreplacementcoveris
fitted.
•IMPORTANT-If thesupplycordisdamaged,
itmustonlybereplacedbyaspecial cord
availablefromthe manufactureroran
authorised serviceagent.
Should anextensioncordbe used,ensurecord
rating isadequatefortheequipment.Donotuse
extensioncordin coiledconditionasthiscould
resultinoverheatingofthecord.

3Preparing themachine
•Fill thefreshwatersolution tankwithwater
andapprovedcarpetcleaningchemicaltoa
maximumof30litres(Fig1). Warmwater
canbeusedtoaid cleaninghoweverthiscan
increasethe riskofcolourfastness and
carpetstoshrink.
•Wheninsertingthepowercordensurethatit
isquarterturnedclockwisetoensureit is
lockedinplace.
NOTE:Ensurechemicalisdilutedcorrectly
accordingtoinstructionsoncontainer.

4.1Priming andstarting themachine
HM55/100
•Connectthesolutionandvacuumhosesto
themachineandtheotherendtoeitherthe
carpet orupholsterywand/ tool.
•Switchonthepumpandonebyonethe
vacuumswitchestobeginoperation.
HM55/400
•Connectthe priminghoseintothesolution
outletandtheotherend intothe solution
tank.
•Switchon theheater(ifrequired)and pump
ontocirculatethesolution toremoveairfrom
system.Lettheheaterheatupfor
approximately3to5minutes.
NOTE:Whentheheaterison,theorange
indicatorlightonthe switchpanel will belit.
•Removethe primehoseandconnectthe
vacuumand solutionhosetothe machine
and the otherendtoeitherthe carpetor
upholsterytool.
•Adjustthepressuregauge totherequired
level.
•Switchthevacuumswitcheson onebyone
tobegin cleaning.
NOTE:useonlyonevacuumformoredelicate
fabricsandupholstery.
4.2Using themachine
•Usingthewanddragthe headslowlyover
thecarpetwhilstatthesametimesqueezing
thesolutionleverthusreleasingthespray.
Repeatusingoverlappingstrokes.Thereis
noneed toapplydownwardpressuretothe
wandasnoimprovementinperformanceis
obtained.
•Forbestresults,cleanan area approx.
1metre×1metreasabove,and thengo
overthesamearea withonlythe vacuum
running,and notreleasinganysolution.
Proceed tothe next area.
•The machineshouldbe switchedoff
periodicallytocheckthereisnoexcessfoam
in therecoverytank.Iffoamispresent,
eitheradddefoamerorifusing anallinone
product,emptytherecoverytank,rinseout
and continue,checkingregularlyforfoam
buildup.

•Whensolutionsprayceasesthesolutiontank
isempty.Switchoff themachine,emptythe
recoverytankandrefill thesolution tank.
IMPORTANT –Ensurerecoverytankisemptied
wheneversolution tankisfilled.
IMPORTANT –Donot runthepumpmotorwhen
thesolutiontankisempty, asthiswilldamagethe
motor.
IMPORTANT –Should solutionseep fromthe
drainhosecap,stopworkimmediatelyanddrain
recoverytank.
4.3Cleaning Carpet
Colourfastness- Beforeusingcleaningsolution
orpre-spotter,testcarpetforcolourfastnesson
aninconspicuousarea.Applysolution toasmall
pieceofcleanwhitematerialortissue,andthen
rubon carpetvigorously.Excessiveamountsof
dyeshowingonthematerialindicatethatthe
coloursarenot fast, and the carpetshould notbe
wetcleaned.Pleasenotetemperatureof
cleaningsolutionwillalsoaffect colourfastness.
•Movefurniturearoundtogiveaclearworking
area.Coverbottomsoffurniturelegswhere
necessary(aluminiumcookingfoil isideal).
Pin upcurtainsanddrapes.
•Vacuumcarpetthoroughlytoremoveany
residualdust ordebris.
•Areasof heavycarpetsoilingcanberemoved
moreeasilyif firsttreated withaconcentrated
cleaningsolution orpre-spottingsolution.
•Rateofcleaningwill depend upon the
thickness ofthecarpetandthedegreeofdirt
inthe areabeing cleaned.
•Donot overwetcarpets.Carpetsmayshrink
iftheyareover-wetornotproperlyfixed
down.
4.4Cleaning Stairs
•CAUTION –whencleaningon stairsexercise
greatcaretoensurethatthemachineis
stable andcannotoverbalance,possibly
causinginjurytoeitheroperatororthird
party.Usethe upholsterytoolforcleaning in
placeofthewand assembly.
4.5Cleaning Upholstery
Thisisdoneinthesamewayascarpetcleaning
exceptusingtheupholsterytool in placeofthe
wandassembly.Cleaningisachievedusing a
gentle dragging motionoftheupholsterytool over
thematerial.
•Aninconspicuousareaoftheitemtobe
cleaned should always be testedforcolour
fastness priortocleaning.Should doubtexist
astothe suitabilityofthefabricforwet
cleaning,thechemicalmanufacturershould
be consultedforadvice.
•Loosecushionsshould be removedand
cleaned separately.
•Donot over-wet upholstery.
5WhenCleaningisFinished
5.1Draining andCleaning
•Whentherecoverytankisfull,emptyby
usingthedrain hoseatthe rearofmachine
(Fig2).Ifabucketisusedtoemptythe
recoverytank,do notusethesamebucketto
fillthesolutiontankasthiscanresultin
puttingdirtandgritintothesolutionline that
canblock filters,orifices,andgenerally
degrade thesolutionline system(do not
reusesolution).Takecareifusingabucket
toemptythemachine.Stopflowbefore
bucketoverflows.Emptybucket andrepeat.

•Toemptysolutiontank,detachthewand
fromtheendofthe vacuumhoseand insert
thevacuumhoseintothesolution tank.Turn
thevacuumswitchestothe"on"positionand
transfersolutiontorecoverytankand
disposeofasoutlinedabove.Cleanrecovery
filterat thistime.
5.2 Storage
•Afterusecheck thatwatertanks areempty
and clean.Drythemachineasdescribed
below.
•Werecommend runningthevacuummotor
forapprox.2minutesafterusetoeliminate
condensationwithinthemachinebody,thus
ensuringthemotorand particularlythe
bearingsremain dry.
•Storemachine withrecoverytanklid
removedanddumpvalveopen (Fig3).

unpleasantodours.

•Wrapsupplycordaroundhandle ensuring
that plugisnottrailingon thefloor.
•Storeextractorindoorsinadryarea.
•Donot storein freezingtemperatures.
5.3Maintenance
WARNING-Beforeundertaking maintenance
operationsoradjustmentsswitchoff machine
and unplug fromtheelectricitysupply.
Toreceivereliable servicefromthisequipment,
regulardailymaintenanceisarequirement.
Cleaningcarpetandupholsteryisaverydirty
environmentforanyequipment.
The followingrecommendationsareoffered.
•Keep theequipmentclean,bothinsideand
out.
•Supplycord -Regularlyinspectsheath,plug
andcordanchoragefordamageorloose
connection.
•Solutiontank –check filterisclean and
undamaged.Adamaged filtermustbe
replacedordamagetopumpheadandspray
jetcould occur.
•Vacuumhead –Checkand removeany
debrisorlint build-upfromthehead.
•Sprayjet –Check jetforblockage andfull
spraypattern.Blowthrough jettoclean.Do
not useapin, asthiscoulddamage thejet.
•Lubricatebrassquickdisconnectsand drain
valveswithaqualitylubricantsuchasWD-
40.
•Flushsolutionsystemsafterusewithclear,
cleanwater.(Awhitevinegarsolution may
alsobeused).Thiswill counter-acthard
waterandalkalinedepositsand aid in
keeping orificesclean.
•Donotallowfluideitherinsolution orwaste
tanktositovernight.Theunitshouldbe
emptiedand cleaneddaily.
•Cleanthefilterin thesolutiontank,the filters
on thevacuumstack in vacuumtankandall
lintfiltersin theinletorvacuumtanksdaily.
•Donotusethe samebuckettofillsolution
tankthatisusedtoremovewastefrom
recoverytank.
•Whentheunitisnotin use,leavethe
recoverytanklid open.
•Atthe endof eachday,run the vacuumfor2
minuteswithlidopenandfilteroff.
IMPORTANT –Allotherservicing andrepairs
should onlybeperformed byaTruvoxengineer
orAuthorisedServiceAgent.
IMPORTANT –Should themachinefail to
operatepleaserefertothefault diagnosissection
in thebackofthisinstructionmanual.Ifthe
problem/remedyisnotlistedpleasecontact
TruvoxCustomerServiceDepartmentforrapid
attention.
6AfterSalesService
Should yourequireaftersalesserviceplease
contactthe supplierfromwhomyoupurchased
themachine,who willarrangeservice.Repairs
andservicingofTruvoxproductsshould onlybe
performedbytrained staff. Improperrepairscan
causeconsiderable dangerstotheuser.

Yourproduct isguaranteed for one yearfromthe
dateoforiginalpurchase,orhirepurchase,
againstdefectsin materialsorworkmanship
duringmanufacture.Withintheguaranteeperiod
weundertakeatourdiscretion,torepairor
replacefreeofchargetothe purchaser,anypart
found tobedefective,subjecttothefollowing
conditions.
