Stairs with Open Shelves Assembly Instructions
The Stairs have either 4 or 5 steps and are 12”, 20” or 24” wide. The instructions and photo below
shows the 5-Step 53” long unit. Follow the parts list shown below for your specific unit. Before
assembly lay all pieces on the floor without screws to see how they all fit together. All Steps will have
pencil marks to indicate where to place the risers.
Please note that the some Risers due to being very wide boards may have a slight bow to them.
Place the bowed boards on the inside with the bow towards the front of the unit.
5 Step 53” Long Unit Instructions
Attach with 1-5/8” Screws
Attach the Short-Riser to 50” Shelf from
below the shelf. Then attach the Shelf to
the Back & Bottom-Riser from above the
shelf.
Attach (2) Risers to the 52” Step from
below the step. Then attach the Step to
the Back & Bottom-Riser from above the
step.
Attach (2) Risers to the 42” Step from
below the step. Then attach the Step to
the Back & Riser from above the step.
Attach (2) Risers to the 32” Step from
below the step. Then attach the Step to
the Back & Riser from above the step.
Attach (1) Riser to the 22” Step from
below the step. Then attach the Step to
the Back & Riser from above the step.
Attach the 12-3/4” Step to the Back &
Riser from above the step.

Attaching the Stairs to the Standard Bed
with built-in Horizontal Ladder Rungs
The Stairs may be attached anywhere on the bed. Once you decide on placement you need to pre-
drill pilot holes into the rungs to match up with the Risers.

Attaching the Steps to the Open Ends Bed
The Steps & Shelves may be attached anywhere on the bed. Once you decide on placement you
need to pre-drill pilot holes into the legs to match up with the Back 2x4 and the Front Risers.

Attaching the Stairs to the 1-1/2” Leg Edge
Use this set of instructions when you want to attach the steps to the leg’s 1-1/2” edge.

Install Optional Handrail
If you ordered the optional Handrail it may be attached to either side of the Steps. Place a small bead
of glue on the Handrail Support where is touches the Steps. Attach the Handrail Supports with 2-1/2”
screws wherever you see a pilot hole. Drive the screws very slowly into the Steps making sure you
are hitting the center of the 2x4 support or riser underneath.
The handrail may be attached to the outside or inside of the steps. We suggest you attach it to the
outside of the 12” wide steps and to the inside of the 20” wide steps. Attach the handrail brackets
and the handrail anywhere on the Handrail Supports. Measure your child to determine the best
placement for his or her height. Attach the bracket with the (3) long screws into the Handrail Support
and the (2) short screws into the Handrail.
