Step 2. Connect Modem to a Computer serial port. This is Com1, Com2, Com3, or Com4.
Step 3. If you are continuing from the NIC modem and HyperTerminal is still running, proceed to step 5.
Otherwise, start the program HyperTerminal. Find this under your Start Programs menu. It may be under
Accessories or Communications.
Step 4. When you start HyperTerminal, a window will open asking you for the name and icon of a new
connection.
* Select ‘Cancel’.
* Under ‘File’, select ‘Open’.
* Change the ‘Look in’ folder to be where your System 2000 Modems folder is located.
(For example: C:\Program Files\Corby\Sys2000\Modems).
* Double-click on the file ‘Setup on Comx’ where ‘x’ is the com port the modem is connected to.
(The port is now configured for 115,200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity bit, 1 start bit, and hardware flow
control.)
Step 5. Still in HyperTerminal, do the following:
* Under ‘Transfer’, select ‘Send Text File’.
* Double-click on the file ‘PC Modem Setup Step 1.txt. The modem will respond with ‘OK’.
* Double-click on the file ‘PC Modem Setup Step 2.txt. The modem will respond with ‘OK’.
* Close HyperTerminal.
Step 8. Reset your modem by turning power off and on. Start the System 2000 Application and follow the
instructions for adding a NIC to your system. Make sure you do not use a Null Modem adapter (or Null
Modem cable) between the System 2000 Computer and Modem. You will not be able to talk to the
modem if you do. Connect the phone line to the modem ‘JACK’ connector. Be sure to enter the NIC’s
phone number on the ‘Remote Settings’ tab of the interface properties.
