ASSEMBLY MANUAL Creative Playthings®
Please read the owner’s manual before the
assembly of your play set. It provides
additional information on the care and use of
your play set.
You must carefully read the entire instruction
manual before proceeding with the assembly
or use of your new Playset.
Creative Playthings takes great care to design
its products with your child’s safety in mind.
However, only with careful supervision
and proper safety instructions, can you be
assured of safe play time on any product
designed for children.
This product is intended for single
family home/residential use only and
not intended for use in any public
setting. Placement in any public
setting constitutes a misuse of this
product.
All hardware on this set is specially coated
for corrosion resistance.
If non-Creative Playthings hardware is used,
it must be galvanized or stainless steel.

PLAYSET SAFETY
Observing the following statements & warnings reduces the likelihood of serious or fatal injury:
• Children should use equipment only in its intended manner.
• Children should not wear loose or stringed clothing while using playground equipment.
• Children should not play on equipment in wet weather conditions due to potentially slippery surfaces.
• Children should NOT walk too closely in front of, behind, or between moving swings and trapezes.
• Children should NOT swing empty swing seats.
• Children should NOT jump off swings and/or trapeze while they are in motion.
• Children should NOT twist swing chains because this will reduce the strength of the chains.
• Children should sit in the center of the swings with their full weight on the seats.
• Children should NOT be on the top surface of the swing beam.
• Children should NOT use the equipment in a manner other than intended.
• Children should NOT get off the equipment while it is in motion.
• On-site adult supervision is required at all times for children of all ages.
• Until assembly is complete, DO NOT let your children use the Play Set.
• Never fasten anything not approved by Creative Playthings to your Play Set. Accessories or items not ap-
proved by Creative Playthings include; Dog runs, clothes lines, electrical devices, or bird feeders etc.
• Suspended ropes, chains, and cables must be secured at both ends.
• Suspended ropes, chains, and cables must not be capable of looping back on themselves.
• Do not allow more than 120 lbs. on Single occupancy swing accessories such as the Sling Swing and Trapeze.
• Do NOT allow more than 175 lbs. on multiple use swing accessories such as the Back-to-Back Plastic Glider.
• Do NOT allow more children on the Play Set than can simultaneously use all the swing stations at one time.
• Children MUST NEVER wear bicycle helmets while playing on the play-set.
Assembly Safety:
• Adult assembly required
• Face slide away from the sun.
• Keep the work area clean and clear of obstructions.
• Children should stay out of the work area until the safe play area is cleared of obstacles, the Play Set has been
completely assembled, all hardware has been tightened and checked, and all tools have been picked up.
• Keep children off the Play Set until it has been completely assembled.
• Parts of the assembly process may require help from another competent adult.
• Do not stand on the platform until the Play Set has been completely assembled, use a step ladder if you can
not reach high enough.
• Follow the manufacturers' safety recommendations for the tools and equipment you use.
• Avoid assembling your Play Set in poor weather conditions.
• Wear proper clothing and safety equipment (safety glasses, boots, and gloves) while assembling your Play Set.

CAUTION YOUR CHILDREN APPROPRIATELY.

SAFE PLAY AREA
SELECTING THE CORRECT LOCATION FOR YOUR PLAY PRODUCT IS IMPORTANT FOR
YOUR CHILDREN’S SAFETY AND THE PRODUCT’S LONGEVITY.
Playset Dimensions:
• All Northbridge gyms have ground dimensions of 11'-6" x 21'-3".
• Each Northbridge play set requires a level ground surface of 28'-2" x 33'-3' for a Safe Play Area
• Additional accessories may increase the size of the Safe Play Area.
• The maximum fall height for your play set is 87-1/2" as measured from the top of the Swing Beam.
Safe Play Area:
• The Safe Play Area refers to a zone extending 6' (2 meters) beyond the Playset on all sides, including the slide
and the space above the Playset. Because children may deliberately jump from a moving swing, the Safe Play
Area must be extended to 14' (4.27 meters) in front of and behind a swinging Accessory.
• The ground surface must be level. Installing your Playset on sloping ground can cause it to lean or “rack”. This
leaning puts additional stress on all connections and joints and in time will cause those connections to loosen
and fail.
• The Safe Play Area must be free of all structures, landscaping, trees and branches, rocks, wires, and other
obstacles to safe play. Children can be seriously injured running, or swinging into these obstacles.
• Remove all tripping hazards from the Safe Play Area. Tripping hazards include; roots, stumps, rocks, landscap-
ing, sprinkler heads, railroad ties, plumbing and electrical connections.
• Do not install your Playset over concrete, gravel, asphalt, packed earth, or any other hard surface. The follow-
ing is a list of recommended ground covers from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

CREATIVE PLAYTHINGS PLAY SETS USE A FEW STANDARD CONNECTIONS. BECOME FAMILIAR WITH
THESE CONNECTIONS TO EASE ASSEMBLY AND ENSURE A SAFER PLAY PRODUCT FOR YOUR CHILDREN.
Hex Bolt & Weld Nut Assembly Procedure:
Assembly Layout:
Align the holes in the parts to be fastened. Start
preliminary tightening of bolt into weld nut by
hand. Tighten each bolt with a wrench until the
lock washer is fully compressed between the
head of the bolt and the at washer.
Correct Assembly:
Bolt has been screwed securely into weld nut
and the connection is tight. Check connec-
tions periodically for tightness during the life
of the Playset . Do not over tighten.
Incorrect Assembly:
During assembly or maintenance the bolt pro-
trudes 1/8" past the weld nut. Call customer
service or replace the bolt at a local hardware
store. You may be overtightening or using the
wrong size bolt.
Failure to replace this bolt with a shorter
one could result in serious injury.
Typical Installation - Lag Screws:
• Pilot drill with the appropriate
diameter drill bit and then use
a socket to tighten.
• DO NOT over tighten
Typical Installation - Wood Screws:
• Use an electric drill or screw gun to drive screws.
• Drill 1/8" pilot holes where required.
• We recommend that you lubricate the
threads of the screws with beeswax or
soap to ease installation and minimize
breaking screws.
• It is very important to make certain
that the tops of all screws are ush
with the surface of the wood and
there are no protruding sharp edges.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
YOUR CREATIVE PLAYTHINGS PLAY SET IS STAINED AT OUR FACTORY.
STAINING IS NOT NEEDED AT THE TIME OF INITIAL ASSEMBLY.
Re-staining Information:
• Pigmented, exterior, water repellent stains are recommended and will provide an excellent barrier against moisture
without hiding the natural wood grain or leaving a lm that may later crack or peel.
• We recommend that you apply stain according to the instructions and precautions recommended by the stain manufacturer.
• It should take three or more quarts to cover your set.
• Contact your local dealer or call Creative Playthings for our staining products.
• All rungs are pre-nished at the factory and do not require any nishing at the time of initial assembly.
• Do not paint, or varnish rungs or steps.
• Avoid using nishes that create slippery surfaces.
Maintenance:
• Wooden playground equipment will last for years with proper maintenance. Maintenance of the Playset nish will vary
depending on weather climate.
• As a safety precaution, check all hardware, such as nuts and bolts, for tightness twice a month during use and at the
beginning of each play season. Tighten as required and specied in these instructions. Do not over-tighten.
• Check structure twice monthly during usage for any evidence of deterioration. If upon inspection, hardware has sharp edges,
rusted or structural pieces have signs of premature failure; replace them through Creative Playthings Customer Service.
• Oil all metallic moving parts monthly during the usage season.
• The swings, trapeze, tent, rope ladders, and any other removable plastic accessories should be removed and taken
indoors when outside temperatures drop below 32° F (0° C).
• Wood will expand and contract as it adjusts to temperature changes and varying moisture conditions. Checks or cracks
are a natural characteristic of all wood and will not affect the strength or durability of the wooden components.
• To maintain the nish of your set, a light sanding and an application of an exterior stain will repair scratches and prevent
wood from aging prematurely.
• Finishes applied to ladder rungs must not create a slippery surface.
• The wood parts of your Playset should never be disposed of by burning.
• Dispose of all parts so as not to create a hazard.
• "Check all coverings for bolts and sharp edges and replace when required."
• "Check swing seats, chains, ropes, and other means of of attachments for evidence of deterioration". Replace through
Creative Playthings Customer Service.

STEP 1 – Platform Frame:
Locate the Ladder Platform End (S),
Stair Platform End (T), and the two In-
side Beams (R). Lay them out as shown
at right. Orient the Inside Beams with the
larger holes nearer the bottom. Orient the
Platform Ends so the holes in the ends of
the boards are near the top. Make sure
the other holes in the Platform Ends are
aligned as shown.
Use four 5/16 x 4-1/2" Lag Screws with
four 5/16" Flat Washers to fasten each
Platform End to the end of the Inside
Beams.
STEP 2 – Main Beam & Posts:
Fasten the center of one Main Beam (AD) and Center Block (Q) to the front of the Inside Beam using two 5/16 x 6" Hex Bolt
Assemblies*. Repeat with the other Main Beam and Center Block at the back of the platform frame.
Fasten a Post (AI) to the Main Beam and platform frame at all four corners. Use 3/8 x 6" Hex Bolt Assemblies in the lowest
holes, 5/16 x 6" Hex Bolt Assemblies in the middle holes and 3/8 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assemblies in the top holes. Do not fully
tighten these fasteners until after installing the legs of the tower in later steps.

STEP 3 – Upper Supports:
Fasten the Upper Support (G) to the Posts on the
right side of the gym using four 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt
Assemblies.
Fasten the Upper Rope Support (H) to the Posts on
the left side of the gym using four 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex
Bolt Assemblies. Note the position of the rope hole in
the Upper Rope Support. The hole should be closest
to the back of the gym.
STEP 4 – End Supports:
Fasten one End Support (AJ) to the front Posts using
four 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assemblies. Repeat with
the other End Support at the back of the tower.

STEP 5 – Weld Nuts on Back:
Insert four 3/8" Weld Nuts into the Main Beam at
the back of the tower in the positions shown. Make
sure the threads inside the Weld Nuts are clear as
it may be hard to access the Weld Nuts later.

STEP 6 – Tip onto Back:
With the help of another person, gently tip the assembly
onto its back, with the Weld Nuts facing the ground.
STEP 7 – Step Leg:
Slide the Step Leg (AC) into place between the back
Main Beam and the back Inside Beam as shown. Place
the angled face of the leg ush to the back right Post
and align the holes with the holes in the Main Beam.
Fasten the Step Leg to the back Main Beam with 3/8
x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assemblies using the Weld Nuts in-
serted previously.

STEP 8 – Rope Base Rail:
Fasten the Rope Base Rail (N) to the Step
Leg as shown, using two 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex
Bolt Assemblies.
STEP 9 – Right Front Leg:
Slide one Leg (AA) into place between the
front Main Beam and the front Inside Beam
as shown. Place the angled face of the leg
ush to the front right Post and align the holes
with the holes in the Main Beam.
Fasten the Step Leg to the back Main Beam
with 3/8 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assemblies.
Fasten the Leg to the Rope Base Rail as
shown, using two 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt
Assemblies.
STEP 10 – Left Back Leg:
Slide one Leg (AA) into place between the
back Main Beam and the back Inside Beam
as shown. Place the angled face of the leg
ush to the back left Post and align the holes
with the holes in the Main Beam.
Fasten the Leg to the back Main Beam with
3/8 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assemblies using the
Weld Nuts inserted previously.

STEP 13 – Lift Upright:
With the help of others, gently lift the assembly
upright onto its legs. Move the tower to the
nal placement.
STEP 11 – Rock Base Rail:
Fasten the Rock Base Rail (M) to the back
left Leg as shown, using two 5/16 x 4-1/2"
Hex Bolt Assemblies.
STEP 12 – Rung Leg:
Slide the Rung Leg (AB) into place between
the front Main Beam and the front Inside
Beam as shown. Place the angled face of the
leg ush to the front left Post and align the
holes with the holes in the Main Beam.
Fasten the Step Leg to the front Main Beam
with 3/8 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assemblies.
Fasten the Leg to the Rock Base Rail as
shown, using two 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt

STEP 14 – Fasten Beam to Platform Frame:
Make sure the tower is in place, solidly set into the ground.
Check to make sure the Posts are plumb and the platform is
level. Make sure the angled ends of the legs rest at against
the posts.
Fasten the Main Each End of the Main Beams to the Plat-

Tighten all fasteners securing the Beams
to the Posts
STEP 16 – Side Supports:
Loosely fasten one Side Support (AE) to the
Rope Base Rail using one 5/16 x 3" Hex Bolt
Assembly through one hole.
Swing the Side Support to rest against the
side of the Leg. Mark and drill a 1/4" diameter
pilot hole into the Leg.
Add another 5/16 x 3" Hex Bolt Assembly to
the Side Support and Base Rail. Use a 5/16 x
3-1/2" Lag Screw with a 5/16" Flat Washer to
secure the Side Support to the Leg. Tighten
all fasteners.
Repeat with the other Side Support on the
other side of the gym.
STEP 15 – Legs to Posts:
Use a 5/16" diameter drill to bore pilot holes into the
Posts where the holes in the legs meet the posts. Fasten
the Legs to the Posts using 3/8 x 5-1/2" Lag Screws and 3/8"
Flat Washers.

STEP 17 – Step Support:
Fasten the top of the Step Support (O) to the Rope Platform
End using one 5/16 x 3" Hex Bolt Assembly.
Fasten the bottom of the Step Support to the Rope Base Rail
using one 5/16 x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assembly.
Leave the fasteners very loose to ease insertion of the Steps.

STEP 18 – Steps:
Slide the Ladder Steps (C) into the Slots in the Step Support
and the Step Leg. Make the bottom front edge of each Step
even with the face of the Step Support and Step Leg.
Fasten the Steps to the Step Support using two #8 x 2-1/2"
Screws each. Fasten the Steps to the Step Leg using two
#10 x 4-1/2" Screws each.
Tighten the fasteners connecting the Step Support to the
Platform End and Base Rail.
STEP 19 – Rungs:
Place one Rung Collar (Z) over each end of all ve Rungs
(Y). Insert the Rung Assemblies into the holes in the Rung
Leg.

STEP 20 – Rung Support:
Slide the holes in the Rung Support (P) over the ends of the
Rung Assemblies.
Fasten the top of the Rung Support to the Ladder Platform
End using one 5/16 x 3" Hex Bolt Assembly.
Fasten the bottom of the Rung Support to the Rock Base
Rail using one 5/16 x 5" Hex Bolt Assembly.
Important Note: Reverse the Hex Bolt As-
sembly so the Weld Nut is on the outside
of the gym.
STEP 21 – Secure Rungs:
Secure the Rungs using #10 x 2-1/2" Self-Drilling Screws
through the pre-drilled holes from below. Drill the Screws up
through the steel pipe until the head of the screw is ush with
the surface of the wood.
STEP 22 – Stringers:
Fasten the Stringer (AF) to each Platform End in the position
shown using one 5/16 x 4" Lag Screw and Flat Washer in
each end. The wide surface of the Stringer should be ush
with the top of the Platform Ends.
Fasten the Swivel Stringer (AG) to each Platform End in
the position shown using one 5/16 x 4" Lag Screw and Flat
Washer in each end. The wide surface of the Stringer should
be ush with the top of the Platform Ends.

STEP 23 – Platform Boards:
Lay the Deck Boards (D) and Center Deck Board (E) across
the Stringers and Inside Beams in the pattern shown at right.
Push the outer-most Deck Boards tight against the Posts.
Space the other Boards evenly between the outer-most
Boards. Make sure the holes in the Center Deck Board align
with the holes in the Swivel Stringer. Secure the Boards us-
ing #8 x 1-5/8" Screws in each small hole. Do not use screws
in the larger holes in the Center Deck Board.
Place one End Deck Board (F) so it overhangs the Stair
Platform End by 1/4". Evenly space another End Deck
Board between the rst and the adjacent Deck Board. Se-
cure the End Deck Boards using #8 x 1-5/8" Screws in each
small hole.
Repeat with the remaining End Deck Boards at the other
end of the platform, overhanging the Ladder Platform End
1/4".
STEP 24 – Climber Boards:
Take one Rock Board (J) and insert four 1/4" Weld Nuts into
the four 5/16" diameter holes.
Align the top edge of the Rock Board with the top edge of the
Rung Support. Secure the Rock Board to the Rung Support
and back left Leg using four #10 x 2-1/2" T25 Screws. Use
1/8" diameter pilot holes to ensure the screws do not split
the Rung Support and Leg.
Align the bottom edge of the Rope Board (K) with the bottom
edge of the Rung Support and Leg. Make sure the Large hole
in the Rope Board is aligned closest to the ground. Secure
the Rope Board to the Rung Support and back left Leg using
four #10 x 2-1/2" T25 Screws. Use 1/8" diameter pilot holes
to ensure the screws do not split the Rung Support and Leg.
Place the four Spacer Boards (L), Narrow Spacer (U), and
remaining ve Rock Boards as shown at right. Secure the
Spacer and Rock Boards spaced evenly between the top
Rock Board and Rope Board using four #10 x 2-1/2" T25
Screws. Use 1/8" diameter pilot holes to ensure the screws
do not split the Rung Support and Leg. The gap between
boards will be approximately 3/8".
STEP 25 – Rocks:
Fasten a Climbing Rock (V) to each pair of holes in the Rock
Boards. Use 1/4 x 1-1/2" Hex Bolts, 1/4" Lock Washers, 8mm
Flat Washers and 1/4" weld nuts. Do not over-tighten the
fasteners. The bolt must seat completely into the Climbing
Rock, and not protrude more than a 1/8" past the end of the
weld nut. Protruding bolts can be a hazard to users, replace
any protruding bolts.

STEP 26 – Assemble Roof Panels:
Note: The End Rafters (AK) have two holes. The Mid
Rafter (AL) has one hole.
Clamp End Rafters to Posts:
Place two End Rafters (AK) along the outside of the
Posts on top of the Main Beams as shown. Butt the
square-cut end of the Rafters ush with the edge of
the Posts. Clamp in place.
Fasten Roof Boards:
Start at the angled end of the Roof Rafters. Place one
Roof Board (AM) against the Rafters ush to the an-
gled end. Center the board on the Rafters; the holes
in the Roof Board should align near the center of the
thickness of the Rafters. Use a 1/8" diameter drill to
make pilot holes before fastening the Roof Board
to the Rafter using four #8 x 1-5/8" Screws. Drill and
screw the rst hole at an angle to avoid the angled cut
of the rafter.
Continue installing seven more Roof Boards, sliding
them under the previous Roof Board and fastening
the Roof Boards using #8 x 1-5/8" Screws. Leave off
the nal two Roof Boards for now.
Final Roof Boards:
Before attaching the nal Roof Boards, un-clamp the
assembly and lay it on a at area. Set the last two
Roof Boards in place. The last Roof Board should
overhang the end of the Rafters. If there is no over-
hang, re-space the last few Roof Boards to achieve
an overhang. If the overhang is so great the screws
will not hit the Rafters, alternative holes should be
made in the nal Roof Board. Fasten the Roof Boards
using #8 x 1-5/8" Screws. Use a 1/8" diameter drill
to make pilot holes before fastening.
Mid Rafter:
Find the center of the Roof Panel Assembly, halfway
between the Rafters. Align the Mid Rafter (AL) to the
center of the Roof Panel and fasten it in place using
1/8" pilot holes and #8 x 1-5/8" Screws as with the
other Rafters.
Create the second Roof Panel in the same way.

STEP 29 – Swing Mount & Swing Beam:
Find the center of the Main Beam on the back of the tower. (The Bolts securing the Center Block are at the center of the Main
Beam). Mark the Main Beam 3" from the center of the Beam and 1-1/2" from the top edge of the Beam. Drill a 3/8" diameter
hole through the Main Beam at the mark.
Find the Swing Mount in the Classic Pine Swing Beam box.(See below right for an illustration of the part). Hold the Swing
Mount against the Back of the Main Beam and End Support/End Tent Support. Align the hole near the bottom with the newly
drilled hole in the Main Beam. Use a level to make sure the Swing Mount is plumb.
STEP 28 – Ceiling Joists:
Adjust the Roof Panels so the angled ends are even with
each other. Fasten a Ceiling Joist (AN) to the outside of
the Roof Rafters on each end. Use two 5/16 x 3" Hex Bolt
Assemblies.
Fasten the remaining Ceiling Joists to the other Roof Raf-
ters using two 5/16 x 3" Hex Bolt Assemblies.
STEP 27 – Roof Panels to Corner Posts:
Fasten one Roof Panel to the left front and left back Post As-
semblies with one 5/16" x 4-1/2" Hex Bolt Assembly in each
Post as shown. Do not completely tighten these bolts.
Repeat with the other Roof Panel on the right Uprights. Rest
the angled ends Roof Panels against each other.

STEP 31 – Climbing Rope:
The Climbing Rope Assembly comes pre-knotted on approximately 12" cen-
ters. This is done to prevent the rope from separating and it provides a better
grip. DO NOT MODIFY THE DESIGN OF THIS ROPE. IF THE ROPE IS
REPLACED, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAINTAIN THE
SAME DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.
Insert the Climbing Rope (W) though the hole in the Upper Rope Support. Tie
a gure eight knot at the end of the rope, inside the gym. Leave at least 2" of
rope beyond the end of the knot.
Pre-stretch the rope before tieing the bottom end. The bottom end of the Rope
MUST pass through the hole in the Rope Board and Rock Base Rail. Pull the
Rope through the hole until it is tight and tie a knot in the end. A gure-eight
knot is preferred, but an overhand knot can be used in the lower position.
Check the rope periodically to ensure that it has not loosened. Tighten the
rope when necessary.
WARNING: AT NO TIME SHOULD THE BOTTOM END OF THE ROPE BE
UNTIED OR LOOSE ENOUGH TO FORM A LOOP. THIS PRESENTS EX-
TREME DANGER TO YOUR CHILDREN.

STEP 30 – Hand Grips:
Place one Hand Grip (I) at against the outside face of the left
back Post as shown. The bottom hole of the Hand Grip should
be approximately 1-1/2" above the top of the angled Leg.
With the Hand Grip centered on the face of the Post, mark the
positions of the holes in the Hand Grip. Drill 1/8" diameter pilot
holes 1" deep at the marks. Fasten the Hand Grip using two
1/4" x 1-1/2" Lag Screws and two 8mm Flat Washers.
Place one Hand Grip at against the outside face of the front
left Leg as shown. The top hole of the Hand Grip should be ap-
proximately 5-1/2" below the top of the angled Leg.
With the Hand Grip centered on the surface of the Leg, mark
the positions of the holes in the Grip. Drill and fasten the Hand
Grip as above.
Repeat with the remaining Grips on the other end of the gym on
the front right Post and back right Leg.

Place the Ladder Slat (A) against the underside of the Rung
Leg and Rung Support. The top of the Ladder Slat should be
up against the bottom of the Platform End.
Secure the Ladder Slat using four #8 x 1-5/8" Screws.
