▪ Controller Overview
▪ Features
▪ Technical Specifications
Controller Overview
The Slide Gate Controller (FLX-5416) is used to control the delivery of feed to livestock. It allows you to
control the opening and closing of the feed bin slide gates both manually and automatically.
Each local Slide Gate Controller (FLX-5416) can be configured with a maximum of two slide gates that
can be enabled or disabled. The controller is usually mounted to a bin leg and must be given a unique
node ID number.
Each Slide Gate Site Controller (FLX-5419) can control up to eight local Slide Gate Controllers
(FLX-5416) with up to sixteen slide gates. The Slide Gate Site Controller (FLX-5419) allows you to
remotely operate the slide gates and set some parameters. It does not let you operate the slide gates in
service mode and is required for “AUTO” mode.
The length of travel of the slide gate is a fixed length for all installations. The closed position is
determined by a physical limit switch. The limit switch is always sending a signal to the controller
indicating whether the switch is active or not active. At the start-up, the controller will attempt to close the
slide until the limit switch is tripped, thus setting the home/closed position. The fully open position will
be a fixed length from the closed position.
Features
Service Mode
Service mode is a setting in the configuration menu that allows the user to use the up and down arrows
as momentary switches to allow service to the slides or feather the actuators. This is usually used during
initial setup of slide gates to test for any interference or to help troubleshoot any blockages. Service mode
is only available on the local controllers and can not be used remotely from the site controller.
Manual Mode
Manual mode is one of the two main modes. Manual mode requires the user to select open or closed
every time an action is needed. The user chooses the slide gate, selects open or closed, hits ENTER,
and then the action is immediately performed. Manual mode functions can also be performed locally at
the controller and remotely using the site controller.
PNEG-2320 Automated Slide Gate Operation 11

Chapter 2: Introduction
Auto Mode
Auto mode will automatically switch the open slide gate based on the proximity switch inputs. The user
sets up a feed line, tying several actuators together, and the system will always keep one slide gate open
if at least one of the proximity switches senses feed. If all the tanks are empty, (none of the proximity
switches sense feed) then the system will close all slide gates and display feedline “x:x” empty. It will
chronologically switch to the next actuator in the line until it reaches the end and will continue to loop
through them again.
For example, starting with Node 1, Slide 1, Feedline A, then move on to Node 1, Slide 2, Feedline A, then
Node 2, Slide 1, Feedline A, etc. until all lines run out of feed. Node all actuators are on the same
feedline.
Local Control Board (LCB)
The LCB in the second generation Slide Gate Controller (FLX-5416) can control two actuators. This could
either be one twin slide gate unit or two single slide gate units.
Technical Specifications
The local Slide Gate Controller (FLX-5416) runs on 24V DC and each actuator has a FLA (full load amps)
of 10.4 Amps. Each local Slide Gate Controller (FLX-5416) has a maximum draw of 5 Amps.
The Slide Gate Site Controller (FLX-5419) runs on 24V DC and has a draw of 50 mA.
Power Supply
A separate 24V DC power supply is required to power the local control boards (LCB) in the (FLX-5416)
Slide Gate Controllers. The power supply unit part number is FLX-5686.
The actuators have a FLA (full load amps) of 12A. Due to this high FLA, 16 Ga. wire is required between
the power supply and the LCB in the (FLX-5416) Slide Gate Controllers.
Amaximum cable distance from the power supply to the LCB in the (FLX-5416) Slide Gate
Controllers must not exceed 50' (15.24 m). The power supply can power up to 5 LCB in (FLX-5416)
Slide Gate Controllers or more IF they are within the 50' (15.24 m). Power supply input is either 120-240V
AC.
Slide Gate Site Controller (FLX-5419)
Shielded 2 wire RS-485 communication wire connects the system together in a daisy chain configuration.
The Slide Gate Site Controller (FLX-5419) is the connection point for a network master connection.
There is an online “FeedLink LIVE” component that will allow the user to operate the system remotely.
Input for Slide Gate Site Controller (FLX-5419) is 24V DC, there is a 120V AC wall outlet transformer
provided, or if a wash down requirement does not allow for this, then power can be wired from the
(FLX-5686) power supply.
