should go blank all except a series of >>>>> displayed at the bottom. After the
MedStar has read the data from the device the spirometer can be reassembled to
take additional measurements. The spirometer will return to normal mode after
a few minutes or you can press the “Operate Button” to immediately exit data
mode.
4. Then take a weight measurement according to the instructions that accompany the
weight scale:
Before standing on the scale, press the green button on the scale and wait for
scale to show “0.0”
Then stand on scale and wait until the reading stabilizes
Make sure you read the measurement results so that you are aware of your
values and can follow your doctor’s instructions.
5. Next the MedStar will prompt the user to turn on the PalmSat Pulse Oximeter unit.
The user should then follow the instructions that accompany the PalmSat unit to
take a pulse oximeter reading. After the Pulse Oximeter measurement has been
taken the MedStar will attempt to query the Spirometer (make sure the spirometer
is in data mode as described in step 3 above). Next the MedStar will proceed to
collect all data stored on the blood pressure unit, and send all measurements over
the phone. (Display messages and audio tones will provide feedback on the
operational status and indicate success or failure of data transfer).
Taking Additional Blood Pressure Measurements:
Additional blood pressure measurements may be taken throughout the day, at any
location, by using the following procedure:
1. Disconnect the blood pressure unit from the MedStar device, by removing the
cable, and take the blood pressure device along wherever you go.

GENERAL USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Caution: Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.
Warning: The MedStar Unit is intended to be used by only a single (one) patient at a
time. Multiple patients should each have their own device as well as their own peripheral
monitoring/measurement devices. If there are more than one patient, each using their
own MedStar Unit, in the same household, extra care should be taken so that one patient
does not accidentally use another’s MedStar Unit. Name labels, placed on the front of
the MedStar, below, but not covering the LCD display, is the suggested method for
identifying which MedStar Unit belongs to which patient.
Please be aware that the external monitors may have their own internal clock which must
be set to the correct date. Please refer to the specific monitor’s instruction manuals.

DISTRIBUTOR INSTRUCTIONS
Caution: Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.
Warning: The MedStar Unit is designed to be used only by a single patient at a time. If
there are more than one patient, each using their own MedStar Unit in the same
household, extra care should be taken so that one patient does not accidentally use
another’s MedStar Unit. Name labels, placed on the front of the MedStar, below, but not
covering the LCD display, is the suggested method for identifying which MedStar Unit
belongs to which patient. Additionally, stored data should be isolated and maintained for
each patient. This will prevent the mixing up of measurements.
When distributing MedStar Units, it is important that you have in place a system for
confirming that devices are assigned to patients properly. An improperly assigned device
may cause data to be lost, or may cause data from one patient to appear as if it belongs to
another.

Each MedStar has a programmable field called ‘Device Code’ (see Programming
Instructions). Please be aware that this ‘Device Code’ should not be used as a means to
identity MedStar Unit users. If this ‘Device Code’ is incorrect, there may be a mix up or
loss of data, or may cause data from one patient to appear as if it belongs to another. It is
intended for more general identification, such as the patient’s disease state. Using the
‘Device Code’ to identify MedStar Users may place your system in non-compliance with
some medical regulations.
Each MedStar Unit comes with a pre-set, default phone number and phone number prefix
programmed. See the section ‘Programming Instructions’ for information on changing
this number.
