What is SmartHalo ?
SmartHalo is a smart, connected, award-winning device for urban cyclists.
It installs securely on your handlebar and pairs with your smartphone to
provide navigation instructions, a night to light your path at night, an alarm
system that keeps your bike safe against thieves, a tness tracker, as well
as a personal assistant feature to keep you connected. In this user manual,
you’ll learn how to set up SmartHalo on your bike and make the most of it !
Happy cycling.

Getting started

5
Installing the app on your smartphone
Minimum requirements for iOS and Android :
iOS 9 or above
Android 4.4.4 or above.
The rst step to use SmartHalo is to download the app on your phone. Go
on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store from your phone and search
for "SmartHalo - Bike smarter". Download and open the app. Then simply
follow the instructions to create an account, install SmartHalo on your
handlebar and pair it with your phone. Make sure you have the appro-
priate phone and that its operating system is up to date.

6
SmartHalo supports most standard handlebars with a diameter of 31.8, 25.4 or 22.2mm.
Depending on your bike, you’ll need to use one of the spacers provide. d.

7
Installing SmartHalo on the bike
To install SmartHalo on your bike, simply follow the instructions inside the
app. If this is the rst time you're using it, you'll be shown how to install it
when creating your user account. If you have already created your account
but you skipped the installation instructions, you can always go back by
clicking on the Prole Icon, which opens the left panel, and then on Install
instructions.

A few tips
If the rubber inserts marked with an (A)
make the brackets too tight and the
rubber inserts marked with a (B) make
the brackets too loose, you can try using
one (A) and one (B) to achieve a
balanced t.
This is rare, but if there seems to be any
interference between SmartHalo and
the stem of your bike that is preventing
a good t, you can use the spacers to
elevate SmartHalo. Instructions to add
the spacers can be accessed from the
"Help" button at the end of the
installation instructions.
Did you try using all rubber inserts?
If you have and that it still doesn't t, get
in touch with us by pressing the Submit
a request button. Please provide all
relevant information on your bike,
including the diameter of your handlebar,
as well as a picture.
It is also possible that something on
your handlebar is blocking. Depending
on the width of your stem, SmartHalo
needs 2-2.5mm of space on either side.
So you can try move what is blocking
(a basket, a bell, a light) to make enough
space for your SmartHalo. Otherwise,
you could also place SmartHalo on
either side of the stem (although that
would break the perfect symmetry...).

9
The rst time that you want to connect to your SmartHalo, you'll be
prompted to create an account. This account will link to your SmartHalo
– you'll be the only one to be able to connect to it. That way, even if your
SmartHalo stays outside at night, nobody else will be able to connect to
it. If you lose your phone, or simply change phone, you'll still be able to
connect to your SmartHalo by simply downloading the app again and login
in on the same account. That is because SmartHalo links to an account,
not a phone.
Also, SmartHalo is meant to be linked to your account from inside the app,
not from the system's Bluetooth settings.
Linking SmartHalo to a new account
If you open the app for the rst time: create a new account and follow the
instructions – one of the steps consists of linking your account with your
SmartHalo device.
Linking an account and connecting to a
SmartHalo

10
Linking a SmartHalo to an existing user account
You can also link with
SmatHalo if you already have
an account. After login, tap on
the upper right Device Icon.
Then item at the bottom. This brings you to a list that
shows SmartHalo devices
within range. Connect to the
one you want.

11
If you don’t see your SmartHalo in the device list
Your Bluetooth is off. Make
sure Bluetooth is
activated on your phone.
The SmartHalo has run out of
battery. Make sure the battery is full
by plugging it to a power source via
USB. Once connected to a power
source, you can tap once on the
device to check the current battery
level.
The device is in a deep sleep state.
If this is the rst time you’re using
SmartHalo (or if SmartHalo is not
currently associated with an ac-
count), you might need to wake it up
from a deep sleep state. To do that,
simply plug SmartHalo in a computer
using the provided USB cable. You
will see a green light in the center of
the device for a few seconds. You
can then pair it with your phone from
inside the SmartHalo app, by clicking
the «Not connected» button at the
bottom of the right side drawer.
The device is currently linked
to another user account. You
must log into the app with
that account (or ask the cur-
rent user to do so) and follow
the instructions to unlink a
device.
There a couple reasons why you would not see your device in the device list :

12
I'm having trouble using HaloKey™ to install or remove the device
HaloKey™ allows you to install and remove the device easily for charging or transport,
but it takes a bit of practice to use. Also, if you ordered multiple devices, make sure
you're using the right HaloKey™ with your SmartHalo, otherwise chances are it will not
work.

13
To lock your SmartHalo :
123 4 5
Make sure both sides of the
mounting base are
properly aligned and in
the same angle.
Position the HaloKey™
following the orientation of
the lock shape engraved on
the device.
Enter the left side of
SmartHalo in rst (the side
opposite to the lock shape).
Enter the right side of
SmartHalo while making
sure there is enough space
to properly t the brackets.
When SmartHalo is in,
remove the HaloKey™ and
then align properly the
mounting base, if needed.

14
To unlock your SmartHalo :
123 4 5
Make sure the mounting
base is well aligned with the
main unit.
Position the HaloKey™
following the orientation of
the lock shape engraved on
the device.
Gently lift the device from
the right side (the side with
the logo shape).
Remove the left side. Remove the HaloKey™

15
How do I turn SmartHalo on and off ?
SmartHalo is a new type of device and as such, there is no «on/off» button. It will turn on
automatically as you approach it and turn off by itself when you leave. To do that, it needs
to recognize your phone – that means the SmartHalo app must be on, even though it can
stay in the background.
Good to know
If you need to travel by plane with your SmartHalo, we recommend
turning the alarm off to prevent it from being triggered when you
disconnect from it.

16
Whether or not SmartHalo is currently
connected to your phone.
Whether or not SmartHalo is moving.
A lot of what makes SmartHalo «smart» depend on two things
For instance :
• The light will turn off if SmartHalo is not moving, regardless that are
you connected or not (to prevent battery drain for those who leave their
bikes inside their home).
• The alarm will trigger if you are not connected AND SmartHalo is
moving, to protect your bike from theft.
• Fitness tracking will start when you are connected AND SmartHalo is
moving, and will stop when SmartHalo stops moving.

17
To charge SmartHalo, take it off from the mounting base using your
HaloKey™, open the rubber ap and use the provided USB cable to charge
it from a computer or a wall charger.
SmartHalo is meant to stay on your bike as long as possible, so that you
do not have to actively think about charging it every day. This is why we
made sure the battery life would last as long as possible. Under normal
usage, the battery should last 3 weeks between charges.
Some users have reported trouble with some chargers
(notably from Apple), so we recommend trying to plug
the USB cable in a computer port for consistent
results.
When SmartHalo is charging, you can tap on the
surface to see charging progress. When the circle is
full, the charge is complete
– this should take about 4 hours.
Some computers output less power when they are in
standby. It might take longer in that case.

Bike to the Future
One of the cornerstones of SmartHalo, the Navigation feature makes
sure you get to your destination the safest way possible: not only will it
make you take bike paths when available, but it’s minimalist interface
makes sure you can keep your focus on the road.
