Connecting an Antenna or Cable to Your TV
Connectingan Antennaor Cableto YourTV
YourTVwillprovideyouwiththebestperformanceifyouconnectittoanexternalantennaorcablesys-
tem.Followthedirectionsbelowmakethisconnection.Pleasenotethatyouwillnormallyonlyhaveto
makeoneoftheconnectionsshownbelow,notallofthem.
AllconnectionswillbemadetotheantennaterminalonthebackofyourTV.Theantennaterminalisa
silvermetalpostpartiallysurroundedbytwoplastictabs.Forhelpinlocatingtheantennaterminal,see
“Your TV's Back Panel”onpage5.
ConnectinganAntenna
If your antenna ends in a single coaxial lead, simply
pressorscrewthecableontotheantennaterminalonthe
backofyourTV.
If your antenna ends in a pair of 300 ohm twin leads,youmustusea300-ohm/75-ohm
adapter(availableatyourlocalelectronicsstore).Placetheleadsunderneaththescrewsontheadapter,
tightenthescrews,thenpresstheadapterontotheantennaterminalonthebackoftheTV.

Connecting an Antenna or Cable to Your TV
If your cable system requires you to use a converter box for all channels, connecttheincomingcable
totheINterminalontheconverterbox.ConnectanothercablebetweentheOUTterminalonthecon-
verterboxandtheantennaterminalontheTV.YouwillneedtokeepyourTVtunedtochannel3or4
andchangechannelsusingtheconverterbox.
Ifyourcablesystemonlyrequiresyou to use a converter box for some channels (i. e. pay-TV chan-
nels),
followthesesteps:Findtheprimary incomingcoaxialcable.Plugthiscableinto asplitter(available at
yourlocalelectronicsstore).Connectone coaxialcablebetweenoneOUTterminalon thesplitterand the
INterminalontheconverterbox. Connectanothercoaxialcablebetweentheother OUTterminalon the
splitterandtheB-INterminalon anA/Bswitch(availableatyourlocal electronicsstore.)Connect athird
coaxialcablebetweentheOUTterminal ontheconverterboxandtheA-IN terminalonthe A/Bswitch.
Finally,connectacoaxialcablebetween theOUTterminalontheA/Bswitch andtheantenna terminalon
thebackofyourTV.
WhentheA/BswitchisintheAposition,youneedtochangechannelsontheconverterbox(andyour
TVshouldbetunedtochannel3or4);whentheA/BswitchisintheBpositionyoucanchangechan-
nelsontheTV.
ConnectingOtherPiecesofEquipment
YoumaywanttoconnectaVCR,laserdiscplayer,satellitereceiver,oranothertypeofequipmentto
yourTV.Werecommendthatyoufollowtheinstructionsincludedwiththepieceofequipmentyouwish
toconnect.
SafetyNote
Ifyouplanonbeingawayfromyourhomeforanextendedperiodoftime,orifathunderstormis
approaching,youshouldunplugyourtelevision,andyoumaywishtodisconnectyourTVfromarooftop
orsatelliteantenna.YoudonotneedtodisconnectyourTVfromacablesystem.

ChangingChannels
Youcanchangechannelsinthreeways:
1 The▲CH▼buttons will take you through all memorized channels,
onebyone.The▲CH▼buttons will not access channels that have
notbeenprogrammedintotheTV'smemory.Formoreinformation
aboutprogrammingchannelsintomemory,seethesection“Program-
mingyourTV'sChannelMemory”onthepreviouspage.
2 Thenumberbuttons(0-9)willtakeyoutoanychannel,evenifithasnot
beenmemorized.Tochangetoachannel,enteritsnumber;theTVwill
tunetothenewchannelwhenyouentertheseconddigitofthechan-
nel.
3 ThePREVIOUSbuttonwilltakeyouinstantlytothelastchannelyou
werewatching.
ChangingtheVolume
1 To change thevolume of the TV set,use the ◀VOL▶buttonsonthe
remoteoronthefrontpanel.
2 Toquicklyturnoffthesound,presstheMUTEbuttonontheremote.
The‘MUTE’willappear on screen, colored green. To return the vol-
umetoitspreviouslevel,pressMUTEagain.

ChangingtheTV'sInput
Normally,yourTVdisplaysthesignalcomingthroughtheantennaterminal.However,Ifyou’ve con-
nectedanothercomponenttoyourTV(suchasaVCR)usingtheVideo/Audioinput,youwillwanttobe
abletoviewthesignalfromthecomponent.
Todothis,youwillneedtoswitchfromthe‘TV’inputtothe‘Line’Input,asfollows.
1 WiththeTVon,presstheMENUbuttontwice,then“set-up”menuwillappear.
2 Usethe▲CH▼buttons to select“Input ”.
3 Pressthe◀VOL▶buttons to change from‘TV’to‘Line’.
4 Wait10seconds,orpresstheMENUbuttontoreturntonormalTVviewing.
WhenitconnectedanVideo/AudiocablefromtheVideo/AudiooutjackontheVCRtotheVideo/Audio
injackonthefrontyourTV,andyourTV’sbackpanelatthesametime,theformertakesprecedenceof
thelatter.

Returningtothefactorysettings
Ifyouwouldliketoreturntotheoriginalvideosettings,astheywerecalibratedatthefactory,followthese
steps:
1 WiththeTVon,presstheMENUbutton.then“Video”menu will appear.
2 Pressthe◀VOL▶buttons to set the“Settings”to‘Preset’.
TheTVwillrememberthe‘Custom’settings you had previously chosen. When you set“Settings”to
‘Custom’again,yourpreviouscustomsettingswillberestored.

Thecontrastsettingcontrolstherelationbetweenthelightandblackareasofthescreen.Ifthelight
areas aretoo bright andarelosingdetails, press the ◀VOLbutton;ifthepictureisgrayandlackscon-
trast,presstheVOL▶button.
Thebrightnesssettingscontrolstheoverallamountoflightinthepicture.Ifthepictureistoobright,press
the◀VOL button; if thepicture is too dark,press the VOL ▶button.
SharpnesscontrolshowtheTVdisplaysedgesofobjectson-screen.IftheTVshowsmultiplevertical
lines at theedges of an object, pressthe ◀VOLbutton;iftheverticaledgesofon-screenobjectsare
fuzzy,presstheVOL▶button.
The colorsetting controls theintensity ofcolor.Ifthecolorisover-saturated,pressthe ◀VOL button; if
thecoloriswashedout,presstheVOL▶button.
Thetintsettingcontrolstherelationshipofredandgreeninapicture.Tintisespeciallynoticeableinflesh
tones.Iffleshtonesseemtooredorpurple,presstheVOL▶button; if flesh tones are too green, press
the◀VOL button.

Ifyouenteratimeinthe“Offtime”setting, your TV will automatically turn off at that time. Follow these
instructionstosetthe“Offtime”.
1 WiththeTVturnedon,presstheMENUbuttonuntil“Time”menu will be displayed.
2 Usethe▲CH▼buttons to select“Off time”item.
3 If you holddown either ◀VOLorVOL▶button,thecorrespondingnumberswillchangemore
quickly.
4 When the settingis correct, use the ▲CH▼buttons to select another“Time”function, or press the
MENUbuttontoreturntonormalTVviewing.
CancelingtheWake-UpTimeorOffTime
If youwould like to cancelthe Wake-up TimeortheOffTime,Pressthe ◀VOL▶buttonsuntilthetime
settingsreturnto“- -:- -”.
TheWake-UpTimeandOffTimewillnotfunctioncorrectlyunlesstheclockhasbeenset.

Ch Labels
This feature allows you to enter a 4 letter channel identifier of your choice that will appear over the
channel mumber dispaly.
The labeling can be anything you want.
1 With the TV turned on, press the MENU button until “Special” menu will be dispalyed.
2 Use the WCHVbuttons to select “Ch Labels” item.
3 Press VOLBon the remote control)or on the TV) to select the 1st character space.
4 Press WCHV repeatedly until the 1st character(“A” in this example) appear in the 1st charater
space.
5 Press VOLBonce to enter the 1st character and to advance to the next character space.
6 Repeat steps 4~5 to enter the 2nd 3rd and 4th characters(“B”, “C”, “D” in the this example), and
when you press VOLB for the last time, the channel label has been stored in the memory.
