DataCard 7000 User manual

A dramatic advance in card
security and durability
The Datacard®LaserGrafix™laser
engraving module combines the
security and durability of laser
engraving technology with the
inline efficiency of the world’s
premier card issuance systems.
By adding the LaserGrafix module
to your Datacard®9000 or 7000
Series card issuance system, you
can permanently engrave text and
microtext, along with bar codes,
logos, signatures, photos and other
dithered black-and-white images.
Depending on your application, the
module offers speeds up to 1,200
cards per hour—completely inline
with other card personalization and
delivery functions. You also have
the option of adding several inline
modules for the highest possible
productivity.
The LaserGrafix module is an ideal
solution for government agencies,
financial institutions and other
organizations where high security,
superb image quality and durability
are a must.
Crisp, durable
images and text
The LaserGrafix module engraves
up to 1,200 dpi resolution. Laser
engraving permeates the inner
layers below the plastic card
surface, with durable, chemical-
resistant photos, text, bar codes
and signatures that maintain their
high-quality appearance throughout
the life of the card.
The LaserGrafix module
is compatible with the most
commonly used card
materials—including PVC,
ABS, polycarbonate and PETG—
many of which are available in
versions designed specifically for
laser engraving, which yield the
best results. The LaserGrafix
module also accepts a host of
industry-standard image formats.
Powerful security features
Since the LaserGrafix module
engraves images and text below
the card surface, alteration is
impossible without destroying the
card. This high-resolution module
can also microengrave variable
cardholder data and other
information on cards for the
ultimate in security. But if visual
measures are not enough, tactile
engraving of text and bar codes
offers additional security you
can feel.
Low operating costs
Solid-state, diode-pumped laser
technology maximizes efficiency
for the LaserGrafix module,
requiring minimal utility costs—
and zero water-cooling and
supplies expenses. This means
lower costs compared to other
thermal printing systems, and
reduced operating expenses by
more than 90 percent compared
to traditional flash lamp laser
systems. A standard card rotation
mechanism provides the flexibility
to engrave both sides of the same
card with a single module.
Simple maintenance
and long life
The superior-quality, long-life
laser diode in the LaserGrafix
module is backed by and ex-
tensive manufacturer’s warranty.
Datacard®diode laser technology
greatly simplifies access to key
laser components, and requires
no special training for fast, simple
maintenance. In contrast, most
flash lamp systems offered by
competitors require laser
expertise—and several hours
of time—for repair.
