2.1. LOCATION AND ENVIROMENT
oStand the appliance on a flat, level surface where it is firmly supported. This is essential for it to function
correctly.
oMake sure that there is no interference within a radius of 70 cm (28”) around the appliance that could
affect height measurement.
oDon’t expose the appliance to direct sunlight.
oAvoid placing the appliance in places exposed to vibrations or close to heat sources.
WARNING: Do not position the equipment so that it is
difficult to disconnect the main switch.
WALL
2.2. STARTING UP THE APPLIANCE

1. OPERATION
After the appliance is turned on, the stand-by screen appears. This means that the scale has calibrated itself
correctly and is ready to be used.

While the scale is not in use (stand-by), the screen shows the watch (and a logotype according to the flags
configuration). To start using the scale:
(1) Get on he platform
(2) Select the desired measure option (this step is skipped automatically if the VASCULAR HEALTH flag is OFF)
(3) Insert coins. The introduced import will be deducted from the programmed price.
If the machine works with several prices, when reaching the first price amount, you can:
oSelect <START> to access to the first measure option
oIntroduce the left amount until reaching the second price
If the machine works only with one single price, or it reaches the maximum amount, the measuring process is
activated automatically, without the need to press any button.
1.1.1. Warnings
The start screen shows one warning:
NO PAPER This indicates that the printer doesn’t have paper and can’t print result tickets.
The warning disappears automatically when the sensor detects paper.
1.1.2. Sex and age
As part of the measurement process, you will be asked to select your sex and enter your age. This information is
especially relevant in the following cases:
oCalculation of the results of the Body Fat Index
oWeighing
If you don’t want to enter this information, wait until the next screen appears. You will be able to continue with the
measurements, but you should pay attention to the limitations mentioned above.
IMPORTANT: If the flags BABY SCALE, BARCODE READER and CUSTOMER CARD are OFF, the machine does not ask
for sex or age.
1.2. WEIGHT AND HEIGHT
oBefore starting the measurements, the instructions regarding the correct posture to take (get on the
platform, stand up straight) appear on the screen.
oAfter a few seconds, the measurements are made automatically.
oWhen the measurements are finished, the values obtained appear on the screen, as well as the Body Mass
Index (BMI)
IMPORTANT: If you don’t follow the instructions, the result of the measurement could be altered.
6

DISTRIBUTOR MANUAL
MA35-51/E
NOTE: If the appliance detects an error in the height measurement or the HEIGHT flag is OFF, a screen appears to
enter the height manually.
1.2.1. Weighing children and teenagers
When users enter an age between 2 and 19 years old, the obtained results of WEIGHT and HEIGHT are shown on a
chart of percentiles.
Children’s and teenagers’ tickets
oChildren’s and teenagers’ tickets include a table of the most common percentiles, with their reference
BMI.
oThe table that appears on the ticket corresponds to the child’s sex and age.
oThe values of the tables vary in function of the standard chosen in the appliance setting.
1.2.2. Use of the baby scale accessory
Preparation and precautions
oLift up the cradle of the baby scale
oBefore putting the baby in the cradle, press the cradle with your hand to check again that it is securely in

1.3. BODY FAT INDEX
Limitations of use
People affected by the following situations may present a degree of water retention and lower-than-average
bone density, which may cause an imprecise calculation of the percentage of body fat. In these cases the
appliance can’t offer a true indication of the percentage of body fat.
oChildren
oElderly men and post-menopausal women
oBody-builders and professional athletes
oPeople who have a cold or a fever
oPeople with edema
oPeople with osteoporosis or very low bone density
oPregnant women
oPatients subjected to dialysis
Also, due to greater or lesser water content in certain circumstances, avoiding the use of the Body Fat Index is
recommended:
oJust after energetic physical exercise
oAfter a sauna
oAfter a bath
oAfter drinking alcoholic beverages
oAfter drinking a lot of water or after eating (it’s a good idea to wait 1 or 2 hours)
oDuring menstruation
Precautions
Although no side effects are known, the Body Fat Index shouldn’t be used in the following cases:
o
During an acute contagious illness
oOn people with medical implants (i.e. a pacemaker)
oOn people with abnormal blood pressure or any type of cardiac illness
Data entry
In order to be able to calculate the body fat, it is necessary to enter some information in the beginning, which
should be within the following ranges:
oSex
oAge
oBuild (optional, according to settings)
oWeight: from 40.0 kg to 225.0 kg
oHeight: from 140 cm to 205 cm
Correct holding and posture for measurement
To guarantee that the measurement is exact, you must hold the electrodes correctly, according to the figure:
8

DISTRIBUTOR MANUAL
MA35-51/E
VERY IMPORTANT:
oThe palms of the hands must make the best possible contact with the device’s electrodes.
oPress the electrodes firmly with the palm of your hands.
The appliance will measure the RESISTANCE of the body using the 4 electrodes. If the contact with the electrodes
isn’t right or you place your hands on the sensors incorrectly, the RESISTANCE value will not be correct, which
may cause an imprecise calculation of the percentage of body fat.
Measurement
oTo measure the Fat Index, hold the lateral sensors firmly with clean, bare hands that are slightly damp, as
shown in the instructions on the screen.
oThe screen will indicate when the measurement is finished and you can remove your hands from the
sensors.
oFinally, the screen shows the values of the measurement obtained and the information entered by the
user.
NOTE: The measurement of the Fat Index is optional. To skip it, press [STOP] in the warning before the measurement.
1.3.1. Body Composition
The result of the measurement of the Fat Index can be extended with an additional screen that includes the
calculation of Body Composition. That screen shows the results of Weight and Fat, along with the estimated
amounts of Water, Mineral and Protein, which correspond to the user’s Non-Fat Mass.
To show this additional screen, make sure that the W-P-M flag is activated.
1.4. BLOOD PRESSURE
oTo measure blood pressure, it is necessary to put your bare wrist into the appliance’s bracelet.
oTo start the measurement, press the [START] button. Otherwise, press [STOP] to skip this
measurement.
oThe bracelet inflates until it reaches a pressure of 250 mmHg. Then the pressure starts to decrease
automatically. Starting at that moment, you can watch the graphic of your blood pressure on the screen
while it is being measured.
oThe measurement can be interrupted by pressing the [STOP] button
oAfter 2 failed attempts to measure the pressure, the appliance understands that it isn’t possible to
measure it.
oIf the measurement is successful, the values obtained appear on the screen.

oExercise or do an intense effort before the measurement
oSmoking, taking drugs or coffee in the 3 hours prior to measurement
oDrinking alcohol during the day prior to the measurement
