4 CHANNEL DVR SETUP
PLEASE READ FIRST!
You must connect the DVR to a monitor/TV to complete the setup. We recommend verifying all accessories and
completing the DVR setup before installing the cameras. For the best viewing experience, we recommend using a 4K TV
or monitor to view the footage.
1. Connect the monitor, USB mouse, cameras, modem/router, and power supply to the DVR based on the color
and image labels:
ACameras: Connect the BNC connector to the camera and DVR. Connect the power connector to the camera
and power adapters.
B Camera Power: Connect the camera to the 4-way power splitter and the camera power adapter(s) to a
power outlet.
CMonitor: Connect the HDMI (BLUE) cable to the DVR and monitor or TV (Not included).
DUSB Mouse: Connect the USB mouse (GREEN) to the DVR.
EModem/Router: Connect the Ethernet (PURPLE) cable to the DVR and modem/router.
(NOTE: Wired Ethernet connection required, DVR cannot connect to the modem/router via Wi-Fi)
FDVR Power: Connect the DVR power cable to a power outlet.

2. Follow the Activation and Setup Wizard on the monitor/TV to set up the DVR.
APower LED: indicates the DVR is ON
BRecord LED: data is being read or written to HDD
CNetwork LED: DVR is connected to a network
DUSB Port: (USB Flash drive not included)

ADMIN PASSWORD
• Create your DVR password (the system does not have a
default password it must be created) – PLEASE REMEMBER
YOUR PASSWORD! Defender cannot access the DVR
remotely to reset your password!
• Conrm the password.
• Enter the same password for channel default password that
you created for the DVR in the previous step.
UNLOCK PATTERN
• Draw an unlock pattern to access your system instead of
entering the password.
• Click & drag to draw the pattern – you must connect at least
4 dots.
• Re-enter the unlock pattern to conrm.
SET UP YOUR PASSWORD RECOVERY EMAIL ADDRESS
• Enter your email address and click OK.
• NOTE: We do not recommend to skip this step.
SECURITY QUESTIONS
• Select 3 questions and enter your answers.
• Security questions can be used to access your system if you
forget your password.
• REMEMBER YOUR ANSWERS! We recommend writing
your questions and answers down and keeping them
in a safe place for future reference.
DVR ACTIVATION
WARNING : DO NOT RIGHT CLICK ON THE SCREEN BECAUSE YOU
WILL BE UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE SECURITY QUESTIONS.

DVR SETUP WIZARD
SETUP WIZARD
• Click “Setup Wizard” to start your DVR setup.
NETWORK
• Displays the IP and server address details from your network
when the DVR is connected to your modem/router.
• If you have a static IP address, make all necessary
changes otherwise, no change is required.
• Click Next.
DATE AND TIME
• Select your Time Zone, Date Format, System Date,
and System Time.
• NTP (Network Time Protocol) - With NTP enabled, your DVR
will synchronize the real-time clock in network devices once
your DVR is connected to the Internet.
• Click Next.
CAMERA
• Displays the type of camera that can be connected
to the DVR.
• No changes are necessary on this screen.
• Click Next.

DISK
• Displays the hard drive information available in the DVR.
• No changes are necessary on this screen.
• Click Next.
P2P
• On this page, you will connect your DVR and cameras to
the DEFENDER EMPOWER APP to gain mobile App access
for remote viewing.
• NOTE: Do not skip this step. Follow the Mobile App
Access steps below.
1. MOBILE APP ACCESS
• Please download the DEFENDER EMPOWER APP and follow the steps to create an account.
• An email account is required for verication.
• This App is compatible with iOS 9+ and Android 4.1+

Tap Sign Up to register your account.Review and agree to the User
Agreement and Privacy Policy.
Select your region, enter your
email address and check o that
you agree to User Agreement and
Privacy Policy and tap Get Verica-
tion Code.
2. ACCOUNT SETUP
Enter the Verication Code sent to
your email address. This may take
up to 5 minutes to receive.
Create a new password. Tap Add Device.

Tap the Scan icon located on the
top right corner. Scan the QR code
located on your DVR found in the
P2P page.
Wait for the Adding Device process
to nish. Do not leave this screen.
Enter a Device Name and tap Save.
Your Mobile App setup is complete.
Return to your DVR to nalize setting
up your DVR.
Device adding is complete!

OUTPUT RESOLUTION
• Select the desired resolution you would like to output to
the monitor/TV.
• We recommend setting the output resolution to match
the resolution of the monitor/TV.
• Click nish to exit the Setup Wizard.
Success! Your DVR is ready for use.
DVR SETUP CONTINUED
• Now that you have completed setting up your
Mobile App, click Next.

SETTING UP NOTIFICATIONS
MOTION DETECTION
• To access this setting, right click to view the Main Menu > Select Motion Detection under Alarm.
• Please note, you must repeat this step for each channel.
SELECT ALARM > MOTION DETECTION
• Select the channel/camera you wish to set/adjust motion detection settings.
• To enable motion detection recording, select Enable Motion Detection.
• To receive notications to your App, enable Push message to App.
• Enable any other Motion Detection setting to your preference.

APP SETTING FOR MOTION DETECTION
Motion Detection settings must be enabled/changed on both your DVR and App Settings. Please repeat for each
channel/camera.
Open the App, go to Device. Tap Settings.
Tap Detection Alarm Settings. Turn on Motion Detection Alarm.

DETECTION REGION
Please note this setting is only available when motion detection is selected.
Detection region allows your camera to notify you when motion is detected in the selected regions. If you wish to be
notied of all motion in the cameras eld of view, make no changes to this setting.
• To access this setting, right click to view the Main Menu > Select Motion Detection under Alarm.
• Select the Region you want to trigger the motion detection.
• Click Apply.
SET UP RECORDING SCHEDULE
There is the option to customize the scheduled recording preferences. You have the ability to record continuously,
when motion is detected or a combination of the two.
Please note: The DVR is defaulted to record when motion is detected. Any changes you make will overwrite this setting.
To avoid any changes, please skip this step.
• To customize the schedule: right-click to access the main menu > select Record Schedule under Record
• Select Enable Record
• Select the channel you wish to edit
• Select your preferred recording type (Continuous or Motion)
• Drag your mouse over the time and day you wish to record, choosing your desired method
• Repeat the steps for each camera (channel)

HOW TO SHARE APP ACCESS
Launch your App and tap on Device >
Location Name > Home Management
Tap the Defender Empower App
account
Tap Add MemberTap on the camera location you
would like to share.
Fill in the other user’s account information
to share App access, then tap Save.
IMPORTANT: Before sharing your App Access, each user will need to download the DEFENDER EMPOWER APP and
create their own account.
