This document updates the installation and service guides for Dell PowerVault 65 x F
storage systems. The information contained in this update explains the correct proce-
dure for turning off power to the PowerVault 65
x F Fibre Channel disk array processor
enclosure (DPE) and supersedes the information contained in the installation and
service guides.

If a DPE is improperly turned off, you cannot save write cache data to the vault drives
and a “cache dirty”condition can occur. When that happens, logical unit numbers
(LUN) become inaccessible and the unsolicited event log displays a message such as:

In addition, Dell OpenManage™Data Supervisor and Dell OpenManage Data
Administrator shows that the inaccessible LUN is unowned. The LUN may need to be
unbound and rebound. For more information, refer to your Dell PowerVault 65
x F
storage system documentation.
To turn off power correctly, stop any input/output (I/O) activity to the array, then turn
off AC power to the array as explained in the following section, “Turning Off a DPE.”

If your array has a standby power supply (SPS), use the SPS circuit breakers to turn off
the DPE (see Figure 1-1). If your array does not have an SPS, use the AC distribution
strips for a rackmount DPE or the power distribution unit (PDU) switches for a desk-
side DPE to turn off power.

NOTE: In a rackmount DPE, the power in the distribution strips may be controlled by a
circuit breaker located inside the cabinet (if the cabinet has such breakers) or a circuit
breaker located externally to the cabinet.
When you turn off power to an array with an SPS, the On Battery light may come on
for a maximum of 90 seconds while the DPE continues to run. This is a normal condi-
tion. Wait for the On battery light to go off and the fans to stop before continuing
service to the array.

Pour éteindre correctement une enceinte DPE, stoppez toute activitéd’entrée/sortie
(E/S) en provenance ou en direction de la matrice, puis coupez l’alimentation en CA
transmise àla matrice comme indiquédans la section suivante, «Éteindre une

Wenn ein DPE unsachgemäß ausgeschaltet wird, können Schreib-Cache-Daten nicht
auf den Vault-Platten gespeichert werden, und der Zustand “Cache fehlerhaft”kann
auftreten. Ist dies der Fall, kann auf LUN (Logical Unit Numbers [Logische
Einheitennummern) nicht zugegriffen werden, und das unaufgeforderte Ergebnispro-
tokoll zeigt eine Meldung, wie z.B. die nachfolgende, an:

Zum ordnungsgemäßen Ausschalten ist jegliche Eingabe/Ausgabe- (E/A) Aktivität auf
dem Disk-Array zu beenden und das Netzteil auszuschalten. Dieser Vorgang ist im
folgenden Abschnitt, “Ein DPE ausschalten”, beschrieben.

Wenn Ihr Disk-Array mit einem SPS (Standby Power Supply [Standby-Netzteil]) ausge-
stattet ist, sind zum Ausschalten des DPE die SPS-Überlastungsschalter zu
verwenden (siehe Abbildung 3-1). Wenn Ihr Disk-Array nicht mit einem SPS ausge-
stattet ist, sind die Netzstrom-VerteilerLeisten für ein rackmontiertes DPE bzw. die
Schalter der PDU (Power Distribution Unit [Netzverteilereinheit]) zu betätigen, um ein
Deskside-DPE auszuschalten.

ANMERKUNG: In einem rackmontierten DPE kann der Strom in den Verteilerleisten
von einem im Gehäuse befindlichen Überlastungsschalter (falls das Gehäuse mit
solchen Überlastungsschalter ausgestattet ist) bzw. einem außen am Gehäuse befind-
lichen Überlastungsschalter geregelt werden.
Wenn ein mit SPS ausgestattetes Disk-Array ausgeschaltet wird, leuchtet u.U. die
“Batteriebetrieb”-Leuchte für maximal 90 Sekunden auf, während das DPE
weiterläuft. Hierbei handelt es sich um einen normalen Zustand. Vor dem Fortsetzen
der Array-Wartung warten, bis die “Batteriebetrieb”-Leuchte erlischt und die Lüfter
anhalten.
