Executive Summary
This paper provides information about how to set up the Dell DR4x00 as a backup to disk target for EMC
Networker™ software. This paper is a quick reference guide and does not include all DR4x00 deployment
best practices.
See the DR4x00 documentation other data management application best practices whitepapers for
additional information.
NOTE: The DR4x00/Networker build version and screen shots used for this paper may vary slightly,
depending on the version of the DR4x00/Networker software version used.

1Install and Configure the DR4x00
1. Rack and cable the DR4x00 appliance, and power it on.
2. Log into iDRAC using the default address 192.168.0.1, user name root, and the password calvin.
3. Launch the virtual console.
4. Once the virtual console is open, log in to the system as user administrator and the password
St0r@ge! (The “0” in the password is the numeral zero.).

5. Set the user-defined networking preferences.
6. View the summary of preferences and confirm that it is correct.

7. Log into the DR4x00 administrator console, using the IP address you just provided for the DR4x00,
user administrator and the password St0r@ge! (The “0” in the password is the numeral zero.).
8. Join the DR4x00 to Active Directory.
NOTE: if you do not want to add DR4x00 to Active Directory, see the
Owner’s Manual
for guest
login instructions.
a. Select Active irectory in the tree on the left hand side of the dashboard.

b. Enter your Active Directory credentials.
9. Create and mount the container.
a. Select Containers in the tree on the left side of the dashboard, and then click the Create link
at the top of the page.

b. Enter a Container Name, select Networker as Marker Type, and select the NFS/CIFS check
box for Connection Type.
c. Under CIFS section, note down the CIFS share path (this will be used in configuring device on
Networker server), and select Enable CIFS. For Client Access section, choose either Open
Access or manually add clients into the allow list

For improved security, Dell recommends adding IP addresses for the following (Not all
environments will have all components):
−Backup console (Networker Server)
−Network Storage Nodes
−Networker Clients
d. Click Create a New Container.
e. Confirm that the container was added.

2Configure the Networker Storage Node
1. Log into the storage node and click on StartMy Computer.
2. Click Map network drive.
3. For Folder, enter the path to the container on the DR4x00.
4. Select the Reconnect at logon check box.

5. When prompted, enter the CIFS credential to authenticate on active directory domain.
The DR4x00 container is now mounted to your backup server.
6. If Client Direct will be used, make sure all the clients can access the same DR container share
using this path. Otherwise separate Client irect Paths will need to be filled in with the actual
paths that clients use to access the DR container share (please refer to step 10 in next section Set
up Networker)
NOTE: in DR4x00 version 2.x, the maximum supported CIFS connections per DR4x00 appliance is 32, so
there should be no more than 32 clients connected/mapped to a single DR4x00 for backup.

1. Open the Networker Management Console (NMC)
2. Click the Enterprise menu button, high-light the storage node that the DR4x00 share will be
configured as backup device, right-click on the host and select New, then select Managed
Application

5. High-light the newly created Networker application, right-click on the application and select
Launch Application
6. A new Devices window will open. On left side panel right-click on evice, select New evice

7. Select Advanced File Type evice (AFT )
8. On next window, Select evice storage is remote from this Storage Node, type in Network Path
of DR4x00 container share location (if name resolution works, hostname or FQDN can be used in
the server portion of the network path). In Authentication section, type in CIFS credential
information to access the DR4x00 share. Click on Next

9. Click on New Folder, type in an appropriate folder name, then select the folder and click Next

10. Set the session attributes according to Networker administration document. If Client Direct feature
will be used, different device path(s) that clients use to access the DR container share can be
entered into Client irect Paths (please refer to step 6 in last section Configure Networker
Storage Node). If all the clients are able to access the DR container share using the direct path,
there is no need to enter extra client direct paths. Click on Next

11. The new Networker device should have Pool Type as Backup, click Next

12. Review the configuration, then click on Configure
13. Click on Finish

14. Under Configuration tab, select Clients, right-click on the client that will be backed up, select
Client Backup Configuration, then New
15. Go through the procedure of creating a new backup group
