z Isolate the UPS before working on the circuit. A readily accessible disconnected
device shall be installed.
z Before applying electrical power to the UPS, make sure the UPS is grounded to
avoid a possible risk of current leakage.
z The protective device shall be a four-pole device and shall disconnect all line
conductors and the neutral conductor.
z Battery installation and maintenance instructions shall be provided by the battery
manufacturer.
z Before battery installation and maintenance, ensure that the instructions written
in the battery manufacturer’s installation and maintenance manuals are thor-
oughly followed.
z For information about the maximum battery fault current, please refer to Chap-
ter 5.
z For information about the battery usage, connection, replacement, etc., please
refer to Chapter 5.

zDo not open or damage the battery or batteries. The released electrolyte is
harmful to the skin and eyes and may be toxic.
zA battery can present a risk of electric shock and high short-circuit current. The
following precautions should be observed before replacement of batteries:
1. Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects.
2. Use tools with insulated handles.
