Denon AVR 3802 User manual

■Fully Discrete, Equal Power Seven Amplifier Channels
Front.................. 110 W + 110 W (8 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.05 % THD)
Center................ 110 W (8 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.05 % THD)
Surround............ 110 W + 110 W (8 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.05 % THD)
Surround back... 110 W + 110 W (8 ohms, 20Hz - 20kHz, 0.05 % THD)
The AVR-3802 features an equal power 7-channel amplifier section,
with identical amplifier design on all 7 channels, with high current discrete
output devices on all channels. Each of the 7 amplifier channels is
rated at 110 watts, into 8 ohms, from 20 Hz - 20 kHz with no more than
0.05% THD.
■Hefty Power Transformer for Stable Supply of Power
A huge power transformer has been connected in the power section
where it is combined with a rectifier diode and a large block capacitor
to ensure a large, stable supply of electrical current. Accordingly, the
AVR-3802 boasts high output power of 110 W for each of the 7 chan-
nels.
■High Power Custom Transistor
When temperatures rise or fall inside the unit, bias current values supplied
to the power transistor tend to fluctuate, causing sound quality to deteriorate.
The high power custom transistor used in the AVR-3802 ensures that
the bias current is constantly uniform so that the sound you hear is of
consistently stable, high quality.
■DDSC-Digital, for High-quality Sound Reproduction
Featuring the Analog Devices SHARC 32-bit floating point DSP processor,
DENON’s DDSC-D circuitry faithfully recreates all the nuances of the
original performance. Compared to ordinary 24-bit fixed point DSP
processors, the Analog Devices SHARC 32-bit floating point DSP processor
features greatly increased computational dynamic range for superior
reproduction of stereo and multi-channel digital program sources.
■Featuring DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 Decoding
The AVR-3802 is equipped with the DTS-ES (true discrete) 6.1 decoder,
developed by DTS to provide dramatically improved surround sound
panoramic reproduction and superior surround sound localization.
■ Supports DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 Decoding
■ Supports DTS NEO:6 Surround Decoding
■Featuring Dolby Pro Logic II Decoding
Enjoy 2-channel stereo recordings in stunning 5.1-channel surround playback.
The Dolby Pro Logic II decoder reproduces dynamic 5.1-channel surround
sound not only from normal 5.1-channel DVD but from 2-channel sources
such as videos and CDs, too. Dolby Pro Logic II uses matrix decoding
technology that has been dramatically improved over Pro Logic. With Pro
Logic II, for instance, the Surround (Rear) channels are in stereo (only
mono with Pro Logic) and playback covers the full frequency range (only
up to 7 kHz with Pro Logic). These improvements let you enjoy a wide
variety of 2-channel sources with the exciting effects of 5.1-channel surround
sound. In Dolby Pro Logic II, there is a Movie mode that creates a sound
space suitable for movies, a Music mode that does the same for music,
and a Pro Logic emulation feature that reproduces sound effects in the
way that conventional Pro Logic does.
■Dolby Digital Decoding
■96 kHz, 24-bit Audio D/A Converters
■Digital Gain Control
The digital gain circuit controls the digital current in the area of the
audio D/A converter. DENON has redesigned the digital gain circuit to
improve the AVR-3802's signal-to-noise ratio and produce a cleaner
signal for the speakers.

NEW MODEL INFORMATION
DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 and Dolby Pro Logic II with 7 Power Amps and Multi-room Flexibility
The AVR-3802 provides two power amps for the Surround Back channels for a total of 7 fully-discrete amps of equal power.
This powerful configuration lets you take maximum advantage of the dynamic performance that today's DTS-ES, Dolby Digital
6.1, DVD-Audio, and SACD program sources offer. The Dolby Pro Logic II features lets you hear 2-channel stereo sources in
realistic 5.1-channel surround sound. The AVR-3802 includes Multi Zone Output and Power Amp Assign functions that let you
output different sources to more than one room.
■Adjustable Cross-Over Switching
The AVR-3802 supports subwoofer cross-over switching with a choice
of 3 cross-over frequencies: 80, 100, and 120. This lets you more
accurately match the performance characteristics of the subwoofer to
the main speaker system.
■Wide-Range Play Capability for DVD-Audio or SACD
■8-Channel Input For DVD-Audio or SACD
■Surround A/B Speaker Switching
■Support for Multi Zone Configurations
The AVR-3802 provides a Multi Zone Output function and a Select
function that let you output different sources to multiple zones. Sources
can be selected for output to up to 1 additional zone, in addition to the
main room. Multi-room Zone can have variable pre-amp output.
The AVR-3802’s Power Amplifier Assign function lets you assign the 2
Surround Back (SB L/R) amplifier channels to instead drive the Multi-
room Zone powered speaker outputs, with 110 Watts per channel
power output capability, while still providing 5 full amplifier channels to
drive the main and surround speakers in the home theater room.
■ Personal Memory Plus
■ On Screen Display
■Easy Operation with Programmable Remote Controller
• Dot Matrix LCD (10 characters)
Since the LC display on the remote controller is a dot matrix type, the
characters are easier to read, and up to 10 characters can be displayed
at any one time.
• System Call
System Call function to execute up to 29 successive pre-assigned
commands at the single touch of a button.
• Preset Memory (Over 100 Built-in Codes)
Since the remote controller is preprogrammed with more than 100
remote control codes, you can use the AVR-3802’s remote controller
to operate not only DENON equipment but components made by other
manufacturers as well. (Some components may not be supported by
Preset Memory.)
• Back light
■Frequency Synthesis Tuning
• 40-station AM/FM Random Preset Memory Tuning
• Auto Preset Memory
