1 - INTRODUCTION
1.1 - Purpose of Use
Dermapen 4™ is an Digital Automated MicroNeedling system that creates fractional puncture
channels into the skin. The eect promotes natural collagen and elastin production, whilst
preserving epidermal integrity.
Dermapen 4™ may assist with the infusion of active ingredients, skin tightening, lifting
and rejuvenation. Other indications suitable for treatment include post-acne scars, fine lines,
wrinkles, enlarged pores and stretch marks. As part of combination therapies, alopecia may
also be treated.
Dermapen 4™ works to activate and facilitate the body’s own healing and regenerative cascade.
1.2 - User Acknowledgement
• It is the responsibility of the user to carefully read all information presented in this manual
before using the Dermapen 4™. This includes warranty information.
• It is the responsibility of the user/purchaser to be aware of local laws and regional
restrictions for microneedling.
• It is the responsibility of the user to obtain appropriate insurance cover, if applicable.
• A consultation with the patient to establish medical history, consent, risk assessment, pre-
post recommendations and skin preparations should have taken place before commencing
treatment.
• Only physicians or other qualified healthcare professionals should operate the Dermapen 4™
to a depth over 1.0mm. A ‘physician or other qualified health care professional’ is an individual
who is qualified by protocol education, training, licensure/regulation (when applicable) and
facility privileging (when applicable) who performs a professional service within his/her
scope of practice and independently reports that professional service.
1.3 – Usage Environments
Dermapen 4™ is suitable for use in the following environments:
• Qualified Physician or Health Care/Medical Professional (Dermapen 4™ Model 4MD)
• Qualified Clinical/Aesthetic Professional (Dermapen 4™ Model 4PRO)
During a professional procedure, the Patient usually reclines on a bed or chair. The Operator
operates the
Dermapen 4™ using one hand, while gently holding the Patient’s skin taut with
the other hand, utilising full sterile procedures and DermapenWorld’s recommended protocol
products.

2.5 -AC/DC adaptor and battery charger
Charging the
Dermapen 4™ Turbo-Cut Battery:
1. New batteries will need to be charged before they can be used for the first time.
2. Plug charger into AC power outlet. Insert battery into charger, ensuring correct polarity is
observed.
• Charger displays a red LED while batteries are charging, and a green LED once fully
charged.
• The battery takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge. The supplied battery provides
enough charge for 3-5 typical treatments. Battery life is approx. 2 to 2.5 hours in air
at low speed and approximately 2.5x ‘standard’ treatments (1 to 1.5 hrs), under load.
• If the battery is no longer capable of supplying sucient power, the
Dermapen 4™ will
provide a Critical Battery Alert. The Dermapen 4™ will display a red Status LED, display
a flashing Battery Symbol, emit three audible tones and power o after 10 seconds.
• Dermapenworld Turbo-Cut Batteries are specifically for the Dermapen 4
TM
- Do not
substitute at any time with other batteries.
Installing the Battery:
1. Remove the battery cover.
2. Insert battery into battery bay, ensuring correct polarity is observed.
3. Replace the battery cover and ensure that it is securely closed. If the Dermapen 4™ does
not operate, check positioning of the battery and ensure that it is fully charged.
Warning: Incorrect installation of the Battery in the Dermapen 4™ or Battery Charger is
hazardous and may result in fire, personal injury and damage to property.
If the Dermapen
4™
is not likely to be used for an extended period of time the battery should be removed.
Using the AC Power Adaptor with Dermapen 4™ :
1. Remove liquid seal flap from the DC power port.
2. Insert Power Adaptor pin into the Dermapen 4™ power port.
3. Turn Power Adaptor pin a quarter-turn, clockwise, to securely lock it in place.
4. Plug the Power Adaptor into an AC power outlet.
5. Ensure the power outlet switch is turned on.
The Dermapen 4™ can be powered from the AD/DC Power Adaptor with or without the
battery installed.

3.1 – Before You Begin
Before commencing treatment, it is important to carefully read and acknowledge all
Safety Warnings and Operating Instructions presented in this manual. Refer to 10 – Safety
Warnings.
3.2 – Getting Started
To get started with the Dermapen 4™, first register your clinic and the Dermapen 4™ with the
DermapenWorld™ Companion App. The App must be first downloaded to a compatible
smartphone or device.
3.3 - Powering on the Dermapen 4™
1. Press and hold the Primary Button until the Dermapen 4™ emits an audible tone. This
should take around 3 seconds. The Status LED lights blue and the Speed Indication Ring
will begin to flash.
2. Once the Dermapen 4™ is powered on, the Speed Indication Ring and Depth Indication
Digits will be displayed. The Status LED will light blue to indicate device is ready for
normal operation.
3. Adjust the Speed Indication Ring and Depth Indicator Digits as required.
4. Press the Primary Button once to activate Treatment Mode.
3.4 – Status LED and Audible Tones
The Status LED displays three dierent states:
• Blue: Normal Operation
• Orange: Attention
The Dermapen
4™ emits the following audible tones:
Single Tone: Indicates a button press
Double Tone: Indicates Speed/Depth setting accepted, or there is an alert requiring attention
Triple Tone: Indicates a Critical Battery Alert or Motor Error (refer to 9 – Troubleshooting)

3.5 - App System Requirements
• iPhone/iPad with iOS 11/12 and Bluetooth functionality, or
• Android Phone with Android 7/8/9 and Bluetooth functionality
3.5.1 - Installing and Downloading the DermapenWorld™ App
1. Open the Apple or Android App Store on your compatible smartphone
2. Search for “DermapenWorld”
3. Tap the ‘Get’ or ‘Install’ button on the app page to install the app
The App is free and will not cost any money to download or use.
3.5.2 - Clinic Registration - location on DermapenWorld

FREE Clinic Finder
1. Open the DermapenWorld™ app.
2. On the Login screen, tap Create New Account or Login if your clinic already has a
DermpenWorld.com PROZONE account. (Proceed to Step 3.5.3).
3. Read and confirm The General Privacy Agreement and The Terms and Conditions.
4. On the Create Account screen enter in your clinic name, first name, last name, clinic email
address, password and clinic phone number. Then tap Next.
5. Enter your first name, last name, email address and password, then tap Next.
6. On the Register a Clinic screen, enter the name and address of your clinic. Check the
location on the map, then tap Next.
Note – Please take care to enter the correct data as directed by the user prompts on each field.
3.5.3 - Registration of Dermapen 4™ to your Clinic
1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smart device.
2. Login to the app with your email address and password.
3. On the Home page, tap My Pen.
4. Tap the + button at the top-right of screen.
5. Tap Register a Pen for an Existing Clinic, and select your clinic from the list presented.
6. When prompted, hold the Dermapen 4
TM
Primary Button for 1.5 seconds until you hear an
audible tone. The Dermapen 4™ will power on and begin the Bluetooth pairing sequence.
During Bluetooth Pairing: - The Dermapen 4™ will display a blue Status LED, a Sync Symbol and
a flashing Bluetooth Symbol. The Depth Indication Digits will cycle a 6-digit Bluetooth passkey.
7. Enter the passkey into the app when prompted to complete the pairing process.
8. Once paired, the Dermapen 4™ will attempt to sync.
9. Once the sync is complete, the Pen Successfully Registered screen is displayed.
10. Tap Done to complete registration.
Your Dermapen 4™ is ready to begin treatments, see section 5 - Instructions for Use.

4 - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 - Syncing the Dermapen 4™ - Why Important?
Syncing and updating the
Dermapen 4™ is critical to the long term functionality and accuracy
of your device.
4.2 - Pairing and Updating the Dermapen 4™ via Bluetooth
Following first-time power on, or connecting the Dermapen 4™ to another smart device, the
Dermapen 4™ will need to be paired via Bluetooth, and synced with the DermapenWorld™ app.
To sync and update the Dermapen 4™ :
1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smart device, and the Dermapen 4™ is powered o.
2. Login to the app with your email address and password.
3. On the Home page, tap My Pen.
4. Find your pen in the list, and tap Update Pen.
5. When prompted, power on the
Dermapen 4™ ’ to begin updating.
6. The app will display “Updating Pen”. Do not power o the
Dermapen 4™ ’ while updates
are in progress, as interruptions will require the Dermapen 4™ to be re-synced to resume
normal use. It is recommended to use the Power Adaptor during this process.
7. When the app displays “Pen Successfully Updated”, tap Done to complete the syncing
and updating process.
To Pair the Dermapen 4™ via Bluetooth:
Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smart device, and the Dermapen 4™ is powered o
When prompted, power on the Dermapen 4™ to begin Pairing the Dermapen 4™ with your
smart device.
• The Dermapen 4™ will display a blue Status LED, a Sync Symbol and a flashing Bluetooth
Symbol. The Depth Indication Digits will cycle a 6-digit Bluetooth passkey.
• Enter the passkey into the app when prompted to complete the pairing process.
• Once paired, the Dermapen 4™ will attempt to sync.
During Bluetooth Syncing/Updating:
• The Dermapen 4™ will display a blue Status LED, a Sync Symbol, a Bluetooth Symbol, and
the Speed Indicator Ring will spiral to indicate updating is in progress.
• Once successfully updated, the Dermapen 4™ is ready to be used.
If it has been more than 2 months since the last update of the Dermapen 4™ (e.g. due to
Bluetooth unavailability), the Dermapen 4™ will remind you by emitting an audible tone,
displaying a Sync/Updating Symbol, and displaying the time remaining to sync/update on the
Depth Indication Digits (in days, or in hours if less than 48 hours remaining). Sync/Update the
Dermapen 4™, or press the Primary Button to continue operation.
Once the sync/update reminder period has elapsed, the Dermapen 4™ will:
• Display an orange Status LED
• Display a pulsing Sync/update Symbol
• Display ‘SYN’ on the Depth Indication Digits
• Emit a double tone

4.3 - Demo Mode
If your Dermapen 4™ is running in Demo Mode (such as a Dermapen 4™ supplied for
demonstration or evaluation purposes), it will operate for the specified demonstration time
period only. Once the Demo Mode time period has elapsed, the Dermapen 4™ will display a
“Too long since last sync” error and cease operation. Contact your Dermapen 4™ representative
to request a demonstration extension or to purchase the device.
4.4 - Scar Treatment (ST) Mode
• When the depth is set to 3mm, the Depth Indication Digits will display “ST” and the
motor speed will automatically be adjusted, the speed Indication Ring will pulse on the
lower setting.
• The speed cannot be adjusted in Scar Treatment (ST) mode.
4.5 - Powering o the Dermapen 4TM
• Press and hold the Primary Button for 3 seconds until Display and Status LED go blank.
• The Dermapen
4™ can be powered o at any time, except during a Bluetooth sync
warning, or during Test Mode.
• If the Dermapen
4™ is inactive for more than 2 minutes, it will power o automatically.

4.3 - Demo Mode
If your Dermapen 4™ is running in Demo Mode (such as a Dermapen 4™ supplied for
demonstration or evaluation purposes), it will operate for the specified demonstration time
period only. Once the Demo Mode time period has elapsed, the Dermapen 4™ will display a
“Too long since last sync” error and cease operation. Contact your Dermapen 4™ representative
to request a demonstration extension or to purchase the device.
4.4 - Scar Treatment (ST) Mode
• When the depth is set to 3mm, the Depth Indication Digits will display “ST” and the
motor speed will automatically be adjusted, the speed Indication Ring will pulse on the
lower setting.
• The speed cannot be adjusted in Scar Treatment (ST) mode.

5.1 - Installing a Needle Cartridge
1. Insert the drive ball end of the Cartridge into the
Dermapen 4™ .
2. Turn Cartridge a quarter-turn clockwise to securely lock it in place.
3. Keep the protective cap in place until immediately before treatment.
A Cartridge can be installed while the
Dermapen 4™ is powered on or o, however, the
needling motor will not run without a Needle Cartridge installed.
If the Needle Cartridge is not installed properly, the LCD screen will display the Cartridge
symbol flashing on and o. The Dermapen 4™ will not operate until the Cartridge is installed
correctly.
Only install a genuine Dermapen 4™ Cartridge at all times. Installation of any other Cartridge
will risk damage to the Dermapen 4™ and possible voiding of warranty.
Warning: Non-genuine cartridges could lead to personal injury.

• Use the Speed +/- buttons to increase or decrease the needle speed (respectively). A
single tone will be emitted for each valid button press.
• The
Dermapen 4™ will emit a double tone to indicate the new speed value has been
accepted, and the selected speed will be displayed on the Speed Indication Arc.
• The speed can be adjusted without a Cartridge connected to the
Dermapen 4™ .
*ST Setting (Scar Setting-Speed 5) is automatically adjusted to a Speed of – 60htz –
60 revolutions per/second at a depth 3.0mm.

The Dermapen 4™ is capable of operating at dierent speed levels according to patient
comfort and practitioner preference. Most treatments are performed at Speeds’ 3 or 4.
Dermapen 4’s ST (Scar Treatment) is automatically calibrated at a speed of 60 Htz/sec.
For sensitive skin such as Rosacea; test at Speed 2 or 3 before proceeding to Speed 3 or 4.

6 - ORDER OF TREATMENT
Step 1 – Cleansing
Thoroughly cleanse the skin with an appropriate cleansing product, suitable to the type of
skin being treated. It is recommended to use Dp Dermaceuticals Tri-Phase Cleanser™ for
eective removal of eye, lip and face make-up. Ensure all traces of make-up are fully
removed prior to treatment.
For an optimal eect, it is advisable to remove dead cells of the stratum corneum with an
exfoliating product such as Dp Dermaceuticals Micro Derm Exfoliant™ before starting
the treatment with Dermapen 4™. A mild microdermabrasion may also be performed. If
required, remove all residue of the cleanser with a suitable antiseptic toner or disinfect with
Chlorhexidene Solution.
Step 2 – If required – apply a Topical Local Anaesthetic (TLA) to the treatment area as
prescribed. Topical Local Anaesthetic process will take 15-50 minutes before removing. Some
formulations may require occlusion with plastic wrap during the waiting period to ensure
eective processing. Remove all residue of the Topical Local Anaesthetic then follow with an
application of a disinfecting solution to prepare the area for treatment.

6 - ORDER OF TREATMENT
Step 3 – Treatment with Dermapen 4™
1. Insert a charged battery into the Dermapen 4™, or plug in the Power Adaptor.
2. Using gloved hands, insert a sterilised Needle Cartridge into the Dermapen 4™ tip.
3. To assist prevention of cross-contamination, stretch the sterile DpSleeve over the
Cartridge and Dermapen 4™ as shown.
4. Power on the Dermapen 4™. If required, sync the Dermapen 4™ via Bluetooth.
5. Select the needle depth and speed of the Dermapen 4™ that best suits the treatment
area. Refer to 5.5 – Potential Depth Ranges for guidelines.

Step 4 – Active ingredients application & treatment
1. Visually section the treatment area into six regions; i.e. forehead, chin, cheeks, eye area,
nose and lip area.
2. Apply a uniform layer of Dp Dermaceuticals Hyla Active™ on one treatment region
at a time. As miniscule puncture channels are created, these enable the infusion of
procedural mediums and ‘meso-glides’. *
3. Hold the Dermapen 4™ device in one hand, and gently hold the skin taut with the other
hand.

First Pass: Start with stripe-like motions, from top to bottom,
lifting the needle tip between each stripe instead of a zig zag
motion to avoid unnecessary reinsertions. Oscillation or depth
may be adjusted mid-procedure. For optimal treatment, apply
the Dermapen 4™ to skin with light pressure only.
Second Pass: While exerting a constant pressure, treat from
side to side as shown left.
Third pass: While exerting a constant pressure, treat in a
diagonal direction as shown left.
Fourth pass: While exerting a constant pressure, treat in the
other diagonal direction as shown left.
It is not recommended to treat using circular motions. A ‘stamping’
eect may be implemented when using the Scar Treatment (ST)
setting.
*For patient safety and optimal treatment outcomes it is recommended to ONLY use
Dp Dermaceuticals™ as a treatment glide.

Step 5 – Immediately Post Treatment:
1 – Immediate post-operative care:
• Clean area with sterile gauze soaked in saline solution OR apply Dp Dermaceuticals
Hyla Active 3D Sculptured Mask™ for 7-30 minutes. Re-glove, then remove the mask.
• If required a protocol Dp Dermaceuticals Skin Needling Chemical Peel may be applied
as per separate instructions or indications present, post peel apply Dp Dermaceuticals
Hyla Active 3D Sculptured Mask™ for 7-30 minutes to neutralize the Peel.
• Apply vitamin and mineral active products such as Dp Dermaceuticals Antioxidant
Cocktail™, followed by Dp Dermaceuticals Vitamin Rich Repair™.
2 – Post-operative camouflage:
• After treatment, take precaution against sun exposure. Apply Dp Dermaceuticals Cover
Recover™ with gentle stipling motions using the Cover Recover™ silicone blender.
Ensure the correct shade is selected and blend until the desired coverage is achieved.
The product may be worn whilst sleeping, post procedures.
• For best results it’s recommended to repeat Dermapen 4™ superficial treatments every
2-4 weeks and deeper procedures every 6-8 weeks. Anywhere from 4-8 procedures
may be required (based on individual patient concerns).

7 - COMPATIBLE PRODUCTS
7.1 – Complementary Products that are advisable to be used in combination with
Dermapen 4™ procedures
• Formulations designed and suitable for skin infusion.
• Products & ingredients capable of stimulating collagen and elastin whilst promoting
the regeneration of cells. Products containing essential nutrients for the epidermis and
dermis such as (though not limited to) hyaluronic acid, growth factors, copper peptides,
retinaldehyde, panthenol, niacinamide, resveratrol and pigment inhibitors.
• Dermapen 4™ recommends exclusive use of Dp Dermaceuticals™ as procedural ‘meso-
glides’ for safe infusion into the skin. This specialist range has been specifically engineered
for procedural, pre-operative and post-operative care.
7.2 - Products to be avoided when using Dermapen 4™
• Avoid any product that could damage the cells or tissues.
• Avoid the use of ingredients or formulations that risk burning the skin.
• Avoid use of ingredients or formulations that create photosensitivity.
• Use caution when applying resurfacing agents including alpha hydroxy acids, certain
retinoids and beta hydroxy acids / phenolic aromatic compounds (salicylic acid).
• Avoid allergy-causing materials.
• Avoid use of proven skin irritants.
8 - CARING FOR YOUR DERMAPEN 4™
8.1 - Cleaning and Maintenance
• Always use the supplied protective DpSleeve when operating the device.
• After each use, clean Dermapen 4™ surfaces with consumer-grade 70% isopropyl alcohol
wipes.
• Never use water or other cleaning fluids, as these can damage the device and cause a
safety hazard.
• Never soak the
Dermapen 4™ in any liquid solution
8.2 - Storage
• Store the product in a dry and well-ventilated place at room temperature.
• If the
Dermapen 4™ is not likely to be used for an extended period of time the battery
should be removed.
• Keep the product out of the reach of children.
