INTRODUCTION
Dexion ULTIMA CI-80 is a versatile adjustable, light to medium duty shelving system, which can be
used to create many styles of industrial and commercial storage installations. It is modular in its
design and will allow reconfiguration or addition to bays and shelves to best suit the storage needs.
Ultima CI-80 may also be mounted on Compactus mobile bases and runners.
Dexion recommends that personnel operating within the stores / warehouse environments are
familiarised with safe working practises. Part of that familiarisation should include the use of this
shelving system. These guidelines contain useful information, tips and safety advice when working
with Dexion Ultima CI-80 shelving.
HAND LOADED SHELVING SYSTEM
Ultima CI-80 is a hand loaded storage system, where the product being stored is placed onto the
shelves, and later picked from them manually. It is not a pallet racking system. Mechanical
devices such as stepped trolleys, or elevating order pickers may be necessary to gain access to
higher storage levels, but the actual placement of product is a manual process.
LOADING / UNLOADING THE SHELVING
When selecting product to be stored within the shelving it is important to ensure that the items are
safe, stable and able to be lifted. Any packaging should be intact, with for example, box bottoms
able to carry the load contained within them.
The product should where ever possible be contained within the area of the shelf, overhangs
should be avoided as these could be hazardous to other operators.
Do not block aisles, or access to emergency escape routes.
If access is required to higher storage levels, then suitable equipment should be used, such as
steps. Do not over stretch, or climb the shelving to gain access.
DO NOT CLIMB THE SHELVING

LOADING THE SHELVING
It is logical to stack the heavier items on the lower shelving and the lighter items on the upper
shelves. This lowers the centre of gravity of a loaded cabinet and improves stability.
The illustration below shows the recommended safe loadings from the EU Directive for manual
handling.
The above is a guide only recognising the wide range of personal capabilities, together with the
diversity of handling situations. Employers should make suitable and sufficient assessment of
content loads when planning and operating their site.

ROUTINE INSPECTIONS
The shelving system should require little or no maintenance, other than to replace components
possibly damaged through incorrect operation. Any component no longer fit for use should be
replaced on a like for like basis. Do not attempt to repair components.
It is recommended that periodic inspections be carried out to rectify any problems that may have
occurred. These should include:
GENERAL CARE
The unit should have periodic clean out and a dusting using a soft cloth and a non- abrasive, non-
solvent based cleaning agent. Should the shelving need cleaning, either as part of a routine, or as
a result of a spillage the following guidelines should be observed.
The clean should comprise of a wipe down with a damp cloth, using (if required) a mild detergent.
NEVER use a hose to spray the shelving.
NEVER use abrasive or caustic cleaning agents.
Check shelving unit is level and square. Levelling plates may be fitted where necessary.
FINISH
Check cabinet panels and shelves for chips or damage. Repair minor powder coat damage with
spray on touch–up paint.
FRAMES AND BACK PANELS
Check that the frame panels are straight, especially in areas of the rear flange and front roll post.
Ensure the screws holding the fixed shelves, back panel (or spine bracing), kick plate, and any
accessories are present and tightened.
SHELVES ON SHELF CLIPS
Inspect the clipped shelves to verify that there are four clips per shelf and that the clips and
shelves are undamaged. Check for and replace any shelves which are permanently deflected.
SHELF STIFFENERS
If fitted, check that the shelf stiffeners are not permanently deflected and that the tabs of the shelf
and ends of the stiffener are engaged correctly.
KICKPLATES
Check for signs of impact on the kick plate and that the fixings holding the kick plate to the
baseplate and frame are tight.

BASEPLATE
Check for signs of damage to the baseplate and that frame fixings are secure. Ensure floor fixings
are tight and well seated into the concrete. Check that all levelling plates are nesting into each
other at the dimple.
FINISHING PANELS
Check that screws holding finishing panels to the frame are tight. The screws are on the inside of
the frame panel.
TOPS (WHERE FITTED)
Tops are held on by self taping screws fitted through the top shelf. If a top is coming loose tighten
screws.
