General Description
The Scorpion Encoder streams live video presented to the HDMI input port. The
output stream may be RTMP push, RTSP pull, HLS, or UDP IP multicast.
The encoder appliance is compact and is used stand-alone on a desktop or other
surface.
The rack shelf is supports up to 8 channels.
In most cases, you may connect a TV tuner or Set Top Box HDMI
port directly to the encoder.

Installation
Connect desired Audio/Video input, 100/1000 Ethernet, and Power. Power is supplied
by an external AC power supply and connects via a locking DC connector. The 19-
inch shelf is powered by internal power supply and only requires AC power.
Video input is HDMI with or without embedded audio. Audio input may also be
analog via 3.5 mm jack and optional RCA connector adapter (female).
Ethernet is standard 100/1000 supporting IP V4.
Find IP Address
Apply power and allow a few minutes for the encoder to boot up.
Each encoder is shipped configured for DHCP and will get an IP address
automatically.
To find the IP address used install and run the DiscoverVideo IP Finder program on a
Windows computer.
If you do not or cannot use DHCP, reset the encoder by inserting paper clip or similar
into the reset hole above the mark “RST” in the front panel and hold the reset button
down for 15 seconds.
Be sure to push the paper clip in straight to avoid touching anything other than the
target button.
This will factory reset the encoder and it will then have DHCP IP address. You may
then configure your computer to use this same network to access the encoder web
user interface and set the IP address as desired. Please note that DHCP will not set
the DNS address and this must always be set manually if DNS is required.
Chapter 2:
Configuration

Network
IPTV encoders are shipped with DHCP enabled. You may disable DHCP and enter a
fixed IP address, netmask, gateway, and DNS.Reminder: DHCP does not set DNS.
You may also change the MAC address.

Encoder HDMI Main
The HDMI Main sets the values for the live encoder and streaming.
•Channel Name –set a meaningful name which will appear in the DVFinder
program for this encoder.
•Mirror control –mirror reverse the video, useful if you are shooting video
through a mirror
•Flip Control –flips the video upside-down
•Aspect Control –Normally select “auto” but allows 4:3 and 16:9 to be set
manually

•Bitrate Control –Variable or Constrained bitrate (CBR preferred)
•Key Interval –sets how often, in frames, a keyframe (I-frame) appears in the
encoded stream. More keyframes is more robust but less compression.
Typical value is 10-30.
•Encoded Size –sets the output video resolution from 640x360 to 1920x1080.
Auto causes the output size to match the input size.
•Bitrate –the encoded video bit rate in Kbps (1000 = 1 Mbps)
•H264 Profile –Baseline, Main, or High (Main preferred)
•Encoding Framerate –video frame rate from 1 to 60. Lower frame rate for low
motion video can improve quality. Typically set to 30.
•Package –the encoded stream may be optimized to appear more like FFMPEG
or more like VLC.
•Buffer Mode –sets how many 188-byte packets are buffered. Default 188x7
•PMT ID –MPEG2 Transport Stream Program Map Table ID. May be used for
UDP raw streaming.
•Transport ID –MPEG2 Transport Stream ID. May be used for UDP raw
streaming.
•Stream ID -- MPEG2 Stream ID.
•SDT Name –MPEG2 Service Description Table name. May be used for UDP
raw streaming.
•HTTP –the name used to view HTTP live stream. Required for preview to
operate.
•HTTP Port –normally port 80
•RTSP –the name used to view RTSP stream
•RTSP Port –the port used to deliver RTSP. Default 554.
•RTSP Authorization –enable to require username/password to receive RTSP
•RTSP Mode –audio, video, both
•RTSP TCP –UDP to TCP

•TTL –Time To Live for UDP streaming
•Unicast IP –destination address for sending unicast
•Unicast Port –destination port for sending unicast
•Multicast IP –IP multicast address
•Multicast Port –IP Port for multicast
•RTP Server –IP address of target RTP server
•RTP Port –IP port of target RTP server
•RTMP Mode –URL or IP
•RTMP Mode –audio, video, both
•RTMP URL –the full IP or rtmp address of the target streaming server (e.g.
DEVOS, Arcus, Helnix, YouTube, etc.)
HDMI 2nd
The IPTV Encoder can send a 2nd stream to a different destination. The settings are
largely the same as for the main HDMI encoder.

Audio Settings –adjust the audio source, rate, gain, etc.
The Main and 2nd OSD settings supports uploading a .bmp image file and locating it
on the screen of the encoded video stream.

System settings provides access to a reboot settings. Reboot span allows the system
to reboot enter N hours (max of 200)

How To Stream To DEVOS
Configure the HDMI Main encoder for RTMP URL Mode and enable it. Set RTMP
mode to video+audio. Set your video bit rate as desired (e.g. 3200 Kbps).
Set the RTMP URL to: rtmp://[your devos server]/live/[streamname]
The [streamname] may be anything you wish without spaces or special characters.
For example, “stream1” or “TVChannel2”.
Apply the changes to the Scorpion.
Log in to DEVOS and create a live stream (not “encoder”). For the rtmp address, enter
rtmp://localhost/live/[streamname], and for the HLS address enter http:// or
https://localhost/autohls/[streamame]/[streamname].m3u8
How To Stream To Arcus or Helnix
Configure the HDMI Main encoder for RTMP URL Mode and enable it. Set RTMP
mode to video+audio. Set your video bit rate as desired (e.g. 3200 Kbps).
Set the RTMP URL to: rtmp://[server]/live/[streamkey]
Obtain the [server] and [streamkey] from the account page.
How To Stream To YouTube and/or Facebook
Configure the HDMI Main encoder for RTMP URL Mode and enable it. Set RTMP
mode to video+audio. Set your video bit rate as desired (e.g. 3200 Kbps).
Log in to YouTube or Facebook and obtain server and streamkey.
Set the RTMP URL to: rtmp://[server]/live/[streamkey]
Note that you may use the HDMI Main and use the HDMI 2nd to simultaneously
stream to two services (Arcus and Helnix.com has multiple platform streaming build-
in).

How To Stream DVPlayer, VLC, others
Scorpion supports a small number (less than 10) unicast streams directly to clients,
and an unlimited number of clients can view Scorpion via IP multicast. Clients can
pull the stream via rtsp, rtmp, http, or UDP multicast.
rtsp://[ip]:[port]/[name] -- default rtsp://[ip]:554/hdmi
rtmp://[ip]:[port]/hls/hd-live –default rtmp://[ip]:1935/hls/hd-live
http://[ip]:[port]/hls/hd-live.m3u8 -- default http://[ip]:8235/hls/hd-live.m3u8
For IP multicast, set the encoder Multicast IP and Port to a Class D address (e.g.
233.1.1.1) and port. For DVPlayer and VLC, enter udp://@[IP]:[port]
