Using withBatteries
TIPSONBATTERYUSE
Reversing polaritieswill damage the batteriesand possiblyyour set. Be sure to
follow polarity(+and -)asindicated.
Do not mixdifferent typestogether (Alkaline, Carbon-Zinc, Nickel-Cadmiumetc.),
or oldbatterieswithnew ones.
When not inusefor an extended period of time, or whileinternalbatterieswill not
be used, removethem to prevent possibleacidleakage or corrosion resulting in
damage to your player.
When the batterieshavebecomedischarged, theymustbe disposed of inasafe
manner that complieswithall applicablelaws.
Installation of batteriesshouldonlybe done byan adult (for safety).

levels.

NOTE2: You mayuserechargeablebatterieson thisset. However,because
rechargeablebatteriesgenerallyhavelower voltage (1.2 voltsinstead of
1.5 volts). Your playing time will bemuchless than normalfreshalkaline
batteries.

NOTE1: The radiomayworknormallyfor about 5hourswhen ”showsor
flashesinthe displayindicating batteriesare weakfor CD play,but still
OKfor the radio.
WhileCD isplaying, if the alkaline batteriesare weakor discharged, thissymbol
”showsor flashesinthe display,thenthe power automaticallyturnsoff. If
thisoccurs,replacebothalkaline batteries(alsoif thedisplaydoesnotshow
anything, the batteriesare dead).

Plays one song over and over till you press STOP.
Duringplay,selectthesong you want to repeatwith
either of the SKIP/TUNINGbuttons( or ), then
press the REPEATbutton once, the symbol REPEATONE
appearsinthe display.
Thesongcurrentlyplaying willrepeat overandover,
untilyou press STOP.
AllTracks Repeat(Disc Repeat)
Repeatsall songsinorder,till you press STOP.
During play,press the REPEATbutton twice, the symbol
REPEATALL will show inthe display.
All songswill keep playing insequence1, 2, 3, etc.and
when finished, will start all over againuntil you press the

Intro Play
Thisplays the first10 secondsof songsinsequential
order.
1.Duringplay,press theREPEATbuttonthreetimes,
the word INTRO will flashinthe display.
2.PressthePLAY/PAUSE button,theword INTRO will
stop flashing and the first10 secondsof each song
on the CD will playinsequentialorder.
3.Whenyoufindasongyoulike,pressthePLAY/PAUSE
button, normalplaywill be resumed, that song (and
the following songs)will play NORMALLY.
RandomPlay
Thisplays the songson the disc inarandomorder.
1.During play,press REPEAT button four timesthe word
RND will flash.
2.Press the PLAY/PAUSE button,thiswill playall of the
songsinrandomorderselected bytheCDplayer.
The word RND will stop flashing.
3.PresstheSKIP/TUNINGbutton ,toskiptothe
nextrandomsong.

The tracks (songs)on the disc can be programmed (arranged inadvance) to playin
anyorder you prefer (up to 20 tracks can be programmed).

During programming, the word PROG flashesinthe display.Toprogramsongsto play
inyour preferred order,follow stepsbelow:
1.Press thePROGRAMbutton.
The word PROG will flashinthe display.

(example). PROG will flashin the display.

3.Pressthe PROGRAMbutton to confirm.

trackstillyou finish(upto20selections).
5.After programmingisfinished,press
PLAY/PAUSEtobeginprogrammed
play. PROG changesto be steadilyinthe
display,and musicbegins.

Thisset isdesigned withthe latest60 second ESP PLUSTM (ElectronicSkipProtection)
-whichallowsvirtuallyunlimitedgentleskipprotectionabovethenormalshock
protection.
The 60 second ESP PLUSTM function will turn on automatically
when the PLAY/PAUSE button ispressed.
When the PLAY/PAUSE button ispressed, the ”(memory
basket) indicator will appear inthedisplay,the digitaldata (music)
isstored inthe read-ahead”memorybuffer before it isdecoded
and played.
The ”markchangesto the ”mark,indicating that the
memorybuffer (basket) isfull.
When the set issubjectto ashock or abumpduring play,the
datastoredinmemorycontinuestobedecodedandplayed.
Thisgivesthepickup timeto stabilizeand continuereading
newmusic.Asthe data isused frommemory,the indicator
changesfrom ”to ”.Oncethe pickupreturnsto its
originalposition, new data isstored inmemoryand the display
changesback to the ”mark.
If the set issubjectto repeatedshocks and all the data stored
inmemoryisused up,the ”markisdisplayedand the
sound will skipor stop for a brief period until the memorybasket
hastime to fill up again.
The60 second ESP PLUSTM functionpreventsthe sound from skipping byusinga
buffer memorythat storesmusicdata. The new 60 second ESP PLUSTM system can
store more musicthan normalanti-skipsystems.

approximately30 secondsto re-connectthe power.Otherwise, the memories
maybe lostand need to be re-programmed.
RADIOOPERATION
4.Tosearchforastationquickly (automatictuning),keeptheSKIP/TUNING
buttonspressed untilthe frequencystartstochangerapidly.After tuning intoa
strongstation, the searchstops.
5.If you tune into an FMstereo station, FMSTEREO ”will show inthe display.
6.Adjustthe VOLUME controltoyour listening preference.
7.If you prefer more bass,slide theBASS BOOSTswitchto ON position.
8.Toturn offthe radio, slide the CD/RADIO FUNCTION switchto CD position.

Cleaning the cabinet
Wipewithasoft cloth.If the cabinetis
verydirty,dampen (not dripping wet) the
cloth withaweaksolution of soapywater,
and then wipe clean.
Cleaning the lens
Adirtylenswill causesound skipping. If
the lensisverydirty,the player maynot
work.Wesuggestusing aspecialcleaning
disk (not included) availableinmostmusic
andHi-Fistores.However,if youdo not
haveone,you mayuseacottonswab
veryslightly dampenedwithalcoholto
clean the lens.
MAINTENANCE
Toremove the Disc
Open the CD DOOR bysliding the DOOR
OPEN button,holdthediscbythe edge
whileslightlypressing on thecenter
spindleasillustrated, then lift it from the
edge to releaseand remove.
Cleaning the Discs
Fingerprintsshouldbe carefullywiped
from the surfaceof disc withasoft cloth.
Unlikeconventionalrecords,compact
discs haveno groovesto collectdust
andmicroscopicdirt,sogentlywiping
themwithasoftclothshouldremove
mostparticles.Wipeinastraight
motion from the center to the edge.
Handling Compact Discs
Dirty,scratchedor warpeddiscs may
causeskipping or noise.
Handlethedisc onlybytheedges.To
keep clean,donottouchitssurface.
Neverusethinner,benzine, record
cleaner or antistaticsprayon acompact
disc.Suchchemicals candamageits
plastic surface.
Discsshouldbe storedintheircases
afteruseto avoidscratches.
Do not exposediscs to directsunlight,
highhumidity,hightemperatures,or
dust, etc.Prolonged exposure to
extreme temperaturescan warp the disc
(suchasleaving the discs inyourcar
during summertime).
Donotstickorwriteanything on either
side of disc.Sharp writinginstruments,or
theinksused insomefelt-tippens,may
damageitssurface.
NOTE:
Alwayspressthe STOPbutton andwait
for the disc to stop rotating before sliding
theDOOROPEN buttontoremovethe
disc.

Donottake the set apart. Thelaser beamusedin the set may harmyoureyes. Refer
servicing toqualified service personnelonly.
Donotinsertpins orcoins, clips, orany objects inside theset.
Thisset isequippedwith asafety device which automaticallyturnsthe laser beamoff
when the disc door isopened.
Donotdrop the set orsubjectit to strong shocks. Doing so could result in damage.
Donotplace the set in locations wherethe temperatureishigh,or in humidor dusty
locations, orlocations withlong heavy vibrations,or tilted surfaces.
The set’scabinet maywarp orthe setmay bedamagedif it isplacedin direct sunlight,
near heaters(where thetemperatureis1400F/600Cor higher)orincars withthe
windowsclosed. In the summer,the temperature mayget as high as 2120F/1000Cor
more.
Use the set within atemperaturerange of410F/50Cto950F/350C.
Use ONLYtheDC 4.5V700mAAC ADAPTOR with polarity,othersmay damage
your set. Disconnect the ADAPTOR fromthe walloutlet when the set isnot to beused
for an extended period of time(3 days or more).
When cleaningyour set, use asoft drycloth.Donot use solvents or commercially
available cleaners, as theymay damage or discolorthe finish.
Donotwear headphoneswhile operatingamotorvehicle.This could create atraffic
hazardand isillegalin manyareas. Donot usethis set when bicyclingor running.
The headphonessupplied with your set provide superb stereo listening while allowing
you to hear someoutside sounds whenlistening at normally lowvolumelevels. Listening
at extremelyhigh volume levels minimizes the intrusion of outside noise/sounds. Inthe
interest ofsafety,it isstronglyadvised against theuse while engaging inactivities
wherethe exclusion ofexternal sounds(whistles, horns, sirens, traffic, etc.). Alsoloud
volumecan hurt your ears. If you notice that the soundhas becomeweakor distorted
or iftracksdo not change, this isan indication that yourbatteries are weak. Replace
both batteriesat thesametime(see Using WithBatteries).

CONDENSATION
If coldwater ispoured into aglass,waterdropletsform on the outside of the glass.
Thisiscalled condensation. Condensation mayoccur on internal operating partsof the
lens.
Condensation occurs:
When the set isbrought from the coldoutdoorsinto awarmroom, or from acoldroom
to aheated one, or inthe summer,if the set ismoved from an air-conditioned roomor
car to ahot or humidlocation.
Shouldcondensationoccur,the setmaynotoperateproperly.Openthe CD DOOR
and wait for about 20 minutes(to allow theinternalpartsto adjustto the surrounding
temperature) before using the set.
