Introduction
The KEY-FKPZ is a flush-mount
wired keypad for use with i-on
and Menvier intrusion systems.
The keypad is available in a
range of contemporary finishes
and brings both style and
simplicity to keypad installation.
Measuring only 13mm in depth,
the keypad gives an attractive,
modern appearance against the
mounting surface.
To make installation quick and
easy, the keypad uses a separate terminal board for all wiring
connections, which fits comfortably inside a standard electrical
back box located behind the backplate.

unset the system.
•Low-profile “flush-mount” appearance.

•Cover and back tamper detection.
•Internal proximity reader.
•Backlit display and keys.
•Navigation keys for installer and user menus, with built-in
alert LEDs.
•A, B, C, D setting and unsetting keys, with built-in status
LEDs. An engineer can configure the keys to set individual
wards, partitions or part sets, or to control outputs.

•Terminals for two 2-wire zones (FSL
or CCL), or one 4-wire zone (CCL).
•Terminals for an optional program-
mable output.
•Terminals for an optional external
KEY-EP proximity reader (not
supplied). An external proximity
reader can be located outside the
protected area to set or unset the
system.
•Terminals for an optional external
loudspeaker (not supplied).
•Local menu to set address and
other options (backlight, LED and
buzzer operation).

number of keypads you can use.

You can enable or disable the LEDs
behind the navigation, A, B, C and D
keys using the local menu (see page
5).
Please refer to the Quick User Guide
or Administrator’s Guide for further
information about how to use the
keypad.
Installing the keypad
Step 1: Choose mounting location
•Choose a convenient location and
height for users.
•Locate the keypad out of sight of
potential intruders and within the
area protected by the intrusion
system.
•Do not locate the keypad next to
computers, photocopiers, radio
equipment, CAT 5 data lines or
industrial mains equipment.
•Check that the maximum cable
lengths will not be exceeded, as
specified in the Engineering Guide.
•Make sure the keypad is not closer
than 1 metre to a proximity reader
(including a proximity reader
located within another keypad).
•It is essential that the mounting
surface is flat.
Step 2: Install back box and
wiring
Install a single-gang back box at the
position where you want to mount the
keypad, and route all wiring into it.
Note:
•Before you install any wiring,
disconnect all power to the control
unit, including the battery.
•In general, the keypad requires 7/0.2
unscreened alarm cable. Screened
cable may be needed if the site has
high levels of radio interference.
•Keep the keypad cable separate
from any other wiring such as

mains supply cables, telephone
cables, computer network
cables, R.F. cables, and cables
supplying sounders or extension
loudspeakers.
•For full details of wiring require-
ments, please refer to the control
unit’s Installation Guide.
Step 3: Mount the backplate
1. Loosen the two screws located
along the bottom edge of the
keypad, and then remove the
front cover.
2. Secure each corner of the
backplate (Figure 2) and each
back-tamper breakout (Figure 3)
to the wall.
Note: To ensure correct fitting, it is
essential that the backplate is flat,
otherwise tamper faults may occur.

The supplied 3mm x 25mm (No.4)
screws must be fitted to the breakouts
for Grade 3 applications. Do not cut the
webs on the breakouts.

Each back-tamper contains a
graphite disc. When the cover is
closed, the graphite discs touch
contacts on the PCB to close the
tamper connections.
Step 4: Connect all wiring
Connect all wiring to the terminal
board (Figure 4). The only
mandatory connections are to the
control unit.

terminal is 0V when active, and 12Vdc

Note:
•To use the keypad zones, you must
enable them using
Installer menu,
Detectors/Devices, Wired Keypads,
Edit Keypad
.
•The allowed values for the alarm
contact and end-of-line resistors
are respectively: 4k7/2k2 (default),
1k0/1k0, 2k2/2k2 or 4k7/4k7. If the
detector has a masking output, use
4k7/2k2 and connect a 2k2 across
the maskng contacts. For i-on
systems, you must use the same
values for each zone.
•The zone number the control unit
allocates to each zone is dependent
on the type of control unit you are
using and whether expanders are
already configured. For details of
zone numbering, please refer to the
Engineering Guide.
External loudspeaker connections

Note: Do not connect another
loudspeaker in parallel. You may
connect another loudspeaker in series,
but this will decrease the maximum
volume from the speakers.
Step 5: Terminate the RS485 bus
(optional)
You may need to terminate the RS485
bus by fitting the link on the terminal
board. Please refer to the control
unit’s Installation Guide for details of
when and where to terminate the bus.
Step 6: Attach the flying cable
Attach the flying cable from the
keypad to the terminal board, as
shown in Figure 4.
Step 7: Set keypad address
If you are using a “non-expandable”
control unit (such as the i-on16 or

i-on40), you can set the address using
the keypad’s local menu (see page
page 5). Each keypad requires a
unique address. The default address
is 1.
If you are using an “expandable”
control unit (such as the i-on30 or
Menvier40), you will need to set
the address using
Installer menu,
Detectors/Devices, Address Bus
Device
. Please refer to the control
unit’s Installation Guide for details of
how to use this option.
Step 8: Attach the front cover
Attach the front cover of the keypad,
and secure it with the two screws.
Step 9: Configure the keypad
Use the following options within
the control unit’s Installer menu as a
guide to configure the keypad. Please
refer the Engineering Guide for further
information.

Using the local menu
The keypad has a local menu, which
you can use to configure a number of
settings that are specific to the keypad
you are using.
To access the local menu:
1. Display the Installer menu.
2. Remove the front cover of
the keypad (if it is not already
removed).This is to activate the
tamper switches.
3. Press and hold B and for two
seconds. You will see:

4. Press uor nto select the required
option (do not press ).
5. Press or to change the setting
(on the display, means disabled,
and means enabled).
6. Press to save changes or to
cancel changes.
Local menu options
The following options are available:
ABCD LEDs
You can use this option to enable or
disable the LEDs behind the ABCD
keys. The LEDs show the set status
of the system (for example, setting
part-set A illuminates the LED behind
key A).
Backlight
This option allows you to enable or
disable the local backlight setting.
Enabling the backlight at the keypad
overrides the keypad backlight setting
in the control unit (
Installer menu,
Detectors/Devices, Wired Keypads,
Edit Keypad
) and results in permanent
illumination of the backlight at normal
brightness.
Disabling the backlight at the keypad
allows the settings at the control unit
to specify the backlight mode (on, off
or timed) and brightness.
Status OK LED
This option relates to the green “OK”
LED located behind the navigation
keys. By default, the LED illuminates
steadily when there is no uncleared
fault or alarm condition present.
If you disable Status OK LED, the
LED does not illuminate while the
keypad backlight is off. As soon as
a key is pressed (which switches on
the backlight), the green LED will
illuminate if there is no uncleared fault
or alarm.
The option may be of use if, for
example, the keypad is installed in a
bedroom and the user requires the
keypad to remain dark.
Status FLT LED
This option relates to the red fault
LED located behind the navigation
keys. By default, the LED illuminates
steadily when there is an uncleared
fault or alarm that the control unit
has reported, such as a mains fail or
a tamper. The red LED continues to be
lit until the fault or alarm is cleared.
If you disable Status FLT LED, the
LED does not illuminate while the
keypad backlight is off. As soon as a
key is pressed (which switches on the
backlight), the red LED will illuminate
if there is an uncleared fault or alarm.
The option may be of use if, for
example, the keypad is installed in a
bedroom and the user requires the
keypad to remain dark (for example,
to prevent the LED from being
continually lit until an engineer clears
an alarm).
Note: This option controls the red
LED only for faults and alarms that
the control unit has reported to the
keypad. The following faults are
detected by the keypad, and therefore
always illuminate the red LED,
irrespective of the setting of Status
FLT LED:
•No address (expandable systems
only) — slow flash of red fault LED
•Communications problem — fast
flash of red fault LED
Address
If you are using a “non-expandable”
control unit (such as the i-on16 or
i-on40), use this option to set the

address of the keypad. Each keypad
must have a unique address (1 to 4).
Buzzer Volume
This option sets the volume of all
tones that originate from the keypad,
such as key and proximity reader
beeps and address request tones. The
keypad buzzer volume setting in the
control unit (
Installer menu, Detectors/
Devices, Wired Keypads, Edit Keypad
)
sets the volume of all tones that
originate from the control unit (such
as entry/exit tones).
Maintenance
The only maintenance required is
cleaning and an annual test of the
keypad using the Test menu at the
control unit.
Clean the outside of the case using
a soft dry cloth. Do not use water,
solvents or any proprietary cleaning
agents.

with backlight off, and no external
proximity reader.
Output: Open collector, 12Vdc when
active, 0V when active, 250mA max,
