TheOn-Line-Seriesisan uninterruptiblepowersupplyincorporatingdouble-convertertechnology.It
providesperfect protectionspecificallyforNovell,WindowsNTand UNIX servers.
The double-converterprincipleeliminatesall mainspowerdisturbances.A rectifierconvertsthealter-
nating currentfromthesocket outlettodirect current.Thisdirectcurrentchargesthe batteriesand
powersthe inverter. OnthebasisofthisDCvoltage,the invertergeneratesasinusoidalACvoltage
whichpermanentlysuppliestheloads.
Computersand peripheryarethuspowered entirelyindependentlyofthemainsvoltage. Intheevent
ofpowerfailure, themaintenance-freebatteriespowertheinverter.
1.INTRODUCTION

Transport
Pleasetransportthe UPS systemonlyinthe originalpackaging(toprotectagainstshock and
impact).
Set-up
Condensationmayoccurifthe UPS systemismoveddirectlyfromacoldtoawarmenvironment.
TheUPSsystemmustbe absolutelydrybeforebeinginstalled. Pleaseallowan acclimatisation
timeofat leasttwohours.
Donot installtheUPS systemnearwaterorindampenvironments.
Donotinstall theUPS systemwhereitwouldbeexposedtodirect sunlight ornearheat.
DonotblockoffventilationopeningsintheUPS system shousing.
Installation
Connect the UPSsystemonlytoanearthed shockproofsocketoutlet. Pleasenotethe special
installationaspectsforthepermanentlyconnectedunitinChapter4 “ConnectionandOperation”.
Thebuilding wiringsocket outlet (shockproofsocket outlet)must be easilyaccessibleand closeto
theUPS system.
Donot connectdomesticappliancessuchashairdryerstoUPS output sockets.

Servicing of BatteriesShouldbePerformedorSupervisedbyPersonnelKnowledgeableofBatteries
andtheRequiredPrecautions.KeepUnauthorizedPersonnelAwayfromBatteries.
CAUTION -Toreducetherisk of fire, unitinputconnectonlytoacircuitprovidedwithbranchcircuit
overcurrent protectionfor30amperesrating inaccordancewiththe NationalElectricCode,ANSI/NFPA

When Replacing Batteries, ReplaceWiththe SameNumberandType.
CAUTION -DoNot Disposeof BatteryorBatteriesinaFire.TheBatteryMayExplode.
CAUTION -DoNotOpen orMutilatetheBatteryorBatteries. ReleasedElectrolyteisHarmfultothe Skin
andEyes.It MaybeToxic.

E.Disconnectchargingsourcepriortoconnectingordisconnectingbatteryterminals.
Use10 AWG(forModel3000LXL),90°Ccopperwireand 22lb-inTorqueforcewhenconnectingto
terminalblock.

Donot connect appliancesoritemsofequipment whichwouldoverloadtheUPS system(e.g. laser
printers)totheUPS outletsocket.
Placecablesinsuchawaythat no one can stepon ortripoverthem.
Operation
Donotdisconnect the mainscableontheUPSsystemorthebuildingwiring socketoutlet (shockproof
socket outlet)during operationssincethiswouldcanceltheprotectiveearthing oftheUPS system
andof allconnected loads.
TheUPS systemfeaturesitsown, internalcurrent source(batteries). TheUPS output socketsmay
beelectricallyliveeveniftheUPS systemisnot connected tothebuildingwiring socketoutlet.
Inordertofullydisconnect theUPSsystem,firstpresstheStandbyswitchthendisconnect the
mainslead or,onthepermanentlyconnectedunit ,isolatetheincomingfeeder.
Ensurethatnofluidsorotherforeign objectscan enterthe UPSsystem.
Maintenance,servicingandfaults
TheUPS systemoperateswithhazardousvoltages.Repairsmaybecarried out onlybyqualified
maintenancepersonnel.
CAUTION -risk ofelectricshock. Evenaftertheunit isdisconnectedfromthemainspowersupply
(building wiringsocket outlet),componentsinsidetheUPS systemarestill connectedtothebat-
teryandarestillelectricallyliveanddangerous. Beforecarrying out anykindofservicingand/or
maintenance,disconnectthebatteriesand verifythat nocurrent ispresent.
Onlypersonsadequatelyfamiliarwithbatteriesandwiththe required precautionarymeasures
mayexchangebatteriesand superviseoperations.Unauthorisedpersonsmustbekeptwell away
fromthebatteries.
CAUTION -risk ofelectricshock. Thebatterycircuitisnot isolatedfromtheinputvoltage. Hazard-
ousvoltagesmayoccurbetweenthe batteryterminalsandthe ground.Beforetouching,please
verifythatno voltage ispresent!
Batteriesmaycauseelectricshockand haveahighshort-circuitcurrent. Pleasetakethe precau-
tionarymeasuresspecifiedbelowand anyothermeasuresnecessarywhenworkingwithbatteries:
-removewristwatches,ringsandothermetalobjects.
-useonlytoolswithinsulatedgripsandhandles.
Whenchanging batteries, installthesamenumberandsametypeofbatteries.
Donotattempttodisposeofbatteriesbyburningthem.Thiscouldcausebatteryexplosion.
Donotopenordestroybatteries. Escapingelectrolytecan causeinjurytotheskinandeyes. It
maybetoxic.
Pleasereplacethefuseonlybyafuseof the sametypeandofthesameamperage inorderto
avoidfirehazards.
Donot dismantletheUPS system.

LINE-LED
1.The greenLINELEDlightsup ifmainsvoltageisapplied totheUPS
input.
2.LINE-LEDblinkswhenthe phaseandneutralconductorhavebeen
reversedattheinputofthe UPS system.

BATTERY-LED
The orange-coloured BATTERY-LEDlightsupwhenthemainspowersupply
hasfailed and theinverterisbeingpowered bythebatteries.
BYPASS-LED
The orange-coloured BYPASS LEDlightsupwhentheUPSsystemis
supplyingvoltage provided bythemainspowersupplysystemviathe
bypass.
INVERTER-
LED
The green-coloured INVERTERLEDlightsupwhen the UPSsystemis
supplyingvoltageprovided bythemainspowerviathe inverter.
FAULT-LED
The redFAULT-LEDlightsup andanacousticwarningsignalisissued every
secondwhentheUPS systemisinfaultcondition.

Wheninstallingtheelectricalwiring, pleasenotethenominalamperageofyourincoming
feeder.
1)Inspect thepackagingcarton anditscontentsfordamage.Pleaseinformthetransportagency
immediatelyshouldyoufind signsofdamage.
Pleasekeepthe packaginginasafeplaceforfutureuse.
2)Pleaseensurethatthe incomingfeederisisolated and securedtopreventitfrombeing
switchedback onagain.

ConnectionMethodofthe UPS Input
IftheUPS isconnectedviathepowercord,pleaseuseapropersocket withprotectionagainst
electriccurrent, and payattentiontothecapacityofthesocket: over12A for 1000L/1000LXL
andover20Afor 1500L/1500LXL.Instead ofusingthe socketforinput,3000LXL hasthe
terminalblock availableforinputaswell.Thewiringconfigurationisshowninthefollowing
diagram.
4)Connectyourcomputertotheoutlet socketsoftheUPS systemasshowninthe above
diagram.
5)FullychargethebatteriesoftheUPSsystembyleaving theUPS systemconnected tothemains
for1-2hours. YoucanalsousetheUPS systemdirectlywithout charging itbut the stored
energytimemaythenbe shorterthanthenominalvalue specified.
6)PresstheOnbutton “I ”onthe frontpanel.
Note: The INVERTER-LEDlightsup after10 seconds.The BYPASS-LEDthen goesout and
the ventilationsystemswitcheson. The UPS systemisnowoperating correctly.
7)Test thefunction of the UPSsystembyeitherpressingthe Onbutton “I ”ordisconnecting the
inputoftheUPS systemfromthe powersupply.

pack.
