PAS Pro Attachment Series and SB units can be
equippedwithawidevarietyoflawnandlandscaping
attachmentsfortasksrangingfromedgingtopruning,
allowingoperators toperformanentire range ofappli-
cationswithjustonepowerhead.
PE Power Edgers provide precise edging action for
maintaininglawnbordersinresidentialandcommercial
landscaping. Edgers can also be equipped with an
attachmentthatquicklycleansoutcracksandjointsin
sidewalks,driveways,pavedareas,andotherhard
surfaces.
Whenusedproperly,thesetoolssavetime,reduceeffort,andmakedifficultlandscapingtasks
easy. Ifhandledcarelesslyorusedimproperly,theycancausesevereinjuryordeath.
Beforeusingthisequipment,youmust:

Combination Face/Hearing Protection
Forcompleteface/hearingprotection,theuseofcombi-

ALWAYSwearsafetyglassesorgogglesunderthe
faceshield,andwearheadprotectionwhencutting

General Clothing Safety
Neverwearties,looseclothing,orclothingwithstrings,
frills,ordanglingstraps.Keepclothingbuttonedor
zipped,andkeepshirttails tucked in. Never wear
danglingorhangingjewelrysuchasearringsorneck-
laces,oranyotheritemsthatcouldbecomeentangled
withbranchesorequipment,andbedrawnintothe
movingpartsoftheengine.
Dust Protection
Operatorswhoaresensitive towooddustorother
commonairborneallergensmayneedtowearadust
masktopreventinhalingthesematerialswhileoperat-
ingunit. Dust masks canprovideprotectionagainst
sawdust,plantdebris,andotherplantmattersuchas
pollen. Makesure the mask doesnotimpairyour
vision,andreplacethe mask as needed to prevent air
restrictions.

Raynaud's Syndrome
AconditionknownasRaynaud’sSyndromecanoccurfromexposuretocoldand/orvibration.
Thisconditionaffectsthehandsandarms,causingtingling,burning,numbness,andlossof
colorinthefingers. Theamountofexposureneededtotriggerthisisunknown,andvariesby
individual.
Toprotectyourselffromthiscondition,takethefollowingprecautions:
Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI)
Overuseofthemusclesandtendonsofthefingershands,arms,andshouldersmaycause
soreness,swelling,numbness,weakness,andpainintheseareas. Repetitivehand/wrist
movementcanputyouathighriskfordevelopingaRepetitiveStressInjury(RSI),suchas
CarpelTunnelSyndrome(CTS). CarpalTunnelSyndromeoccurswhenswellinginthewrist
putspressureonanerve,resultinginseverepain.
Toprotectyourselffromtheseconditions,takethefollowingprecautions:
•Avoidusing your wrist in abentortwistedposition.
Trytomaintainastraightwristposition.
•Avoidusingyourthumbandindexfingertogrip
things-useyourwholehand.
•Takeregularrestbreaks.
•Exerciseandstretchtostrengthenmusclesand
maintaincirculation.
•Keepexposuretovibration ataminimum.
•Reducethe speed and forceofrepetitivemove-
ments.
•Ifyouexperiencetingling,numbness,orpaininthe
fingers,hands,wrists,orarms,stopusingtheunit
immediately,and contact a doctor. Earlydiagnosis
ofRSIcanhelppreventpermanentnerveand
muscledamage.
•Keepyourbodywarm-payparticularattentionto
headandneck,handsandwrists,andfeetand
ankles.
•Avoidawkwardgripsontheunitthatmaycause
stress. Maintaincontrol,butdonotholdtheunitwith
anexcessivelytightgrip.
•Takeregularrestbreaks.
•Exerciseandstretchtostrengthenmuscles,andto
maintaincirculation. Keepexposuretovibrationat
aminimum.
•Ifyouexperiencediscomfort,redness,and/orswell-
ingofthefingers,followedbywhiteningorlossof
feeling,stopusingtheunit,andcontactadoctor.

Keep feet and
hands away
NEVERinstallanyothertypeofblade,linehead,cutting
attachment,part,oraccessoryonyourtrimmer/
brushcutterunlessitisapprovedbyEchoforuseon
your specific model. Parts and accessories that ap-
peartofitproperlymaycreateasafetyhazardwhenthe
unitisoperated,andcouldresultinseriousinjuryto
operatorandbystanders.
ALWAYSusethecorrecttoolsforassembly. Using
incorrectorimproperlysizedtoolscanresultinasud-
denslipandseriousinjuries.
ALWAYSfollowtheassemblyinstructionsinorder,as
shownintheOperator’sManual. Improperassembly
canresultinsuddenpartfailure,andseriousinjuries.
NEVER use parts that appear to be worn, damaged,
improperlysized,orotherwiseincompatiblewithmating
parts. ContactyourdealerorEchoConsumerSupport
forassistanceif parts do not fitproperly.
NEVER modify parts or use parts from other pieces of
equipmenttoassembleyourunit. Useonlypartsthat
are designed to fit your model. Modifying a part to fit
mayweakenit,andcauseprematurefailure. Partsfrom
othermodelsmaynotworkproperly,andcancreate
unsafeoperatingconditions.
Wiring
Positionwiringsafelytopreventsnagging,separation
ofconnectors,orbreakageduringoperation. Gather
excesswire,and secure with wiring clamp ifprovided
onunit,ortuck behind the air filter area. Do not place
wiringdirectlyagainsthotenginecomponents.
Checkwiringandconnectorsfornicks,cuts,exposed
wire, or other damage, and repair or replace as
needed. Exposedwireorconnectorscancause
shocks,sparks,andriskoffireor explosion,resultingin
seriousinjury.
Checkwireterminalsforsecureconnections. Loose
connectionscancauseerraticengineoperation,or
preventStopswitchfromstoppingengine.

Debris Shield
WARNING
Plastic Debris Shields are equipped with a sharp cut-off
knifeforcuttingnylontrimmerlinetolengthduringop-
eration. Useextremecarewhenassemblingnylonline
headtogearcaseto avoid accidental contact with cut-
offknife. Wearworkgloveswhenassemblingnylonline
headtogearcase,andavoidcontactwithsharpcut-off
knifeedges.
Unit Configuration
GTModels: IfyourModelGTcurvedshafttrimmeris
notfullyassembled,youmustassembletheunitas
instructedintheOperator’sManualprovidedwiththe
unit. Beforeusingtheunit,makesuretheplasticdebris
shield,trimmerhead,andhandleareproperlyattached,
andaresecurelyfastened.
IfyourGTcurvedshafttrimmerhasbeenpre-as-
sembled,youmustmakesuretheplasticdebrisshield,
handle,andtrimmerheadareproperlyinstalledand
securelyattached,asshownintheOperator’sManual
providedwiththeunit.
DANGER
NEVER install a metal blade on a model GT curved
shafttrimmer. UseofanymetalbladeonaGTcurved
shafttrimmercanresultinseriousinjurytooperatorand

ASSEMBLY
TheEcho Pro Attachment Series and Split-Boommodels allow the use ofa wide range of

haveindividualsafetyandoperatingruleswhichmustbeobeyedforsafeoperation. Youmust
readandunderstandthesafetyandoperatinginstructionsforeachattachmentbeforeusing

IfyouchangePASattachments,youmustalsomakesureyourfronthandleisproperlyconfig-

IfyouchangethecuttingattachmentonyourSRM,PAS,
orSBunitfromnylonlineheadtoablade,youmustalso
installallofthepartsrequiredforbladeoperation.
Thesepartsvarybytypeofbladebeingused,andmay
includereplacingthefronthandlewithaU-Handle(See
theSRM/PAS/SBSet-UpGuide,Page17)

•ALWAYS use a new split pin each time blade is
installedorreplaced.
•ALWAYSremembertoremovelockingbar,T-
wrench,andanyothertoolsusedtoassembleunitor
tightenhardware.
•ALWAYSstoreassemblytoolssafelyawayfromthe
workarea.

attachments.

operatinginstructionsinthisSafetyManual,yourunit’s
Operator’sManual,andintheOperator’sManualor

accessory,or partskitthat willbeused.

Makesurethefrontloophandleispositioned beyond
theminimumhandlespacingline,asshownonthe
handlespacingdecalonthedriveshafthousing.The
minimumhandlespacinglineindicatestheminimum
distancebetweentherearhandleandfronthandle,and
helpsensuretheoperator’shandsarefarenoughapart
tomaintaingoodcontroloftheunit.
Final Assembly Check List
Afterassembly,checkyourunittomakesureguards,
shields,protectivedevices,andallotherpartsare
properlyandsecurelyassembledandworkingcor-
rectly. SeetheOperator’sManualforassemblydetails
andpartlocationsforyourunit.
•Makesureallrequired hardwarehasbeenused
andisproperlytightened.
•Makesurethrottlelock-outleverresetswhenre-
leased.
•Makesurethrottletriggerdoesnotoperateunless
throttlelockoutleverisdepressed.
•Makesurethrottletriggerreturnstonormalposition
whenreleased.
•Makesurestopswitchoperatesproperly,moving
feelybetweenSTOPandrunpositions.
•MoveSTOP switchtostop position.
•Connectsparkpluglead.
NEVERfuel,start,oroperateyourunitunlessitisfully
assembled,allshieldsandrequired guards are in
place,andthethrottlelock-outleverandtriggerare
workingproperly.

FUELING
DANGER
Explosion/Fire/Burn Hazard. Gasoline is extremely
flammable. Vapors are explosive. Keep at least 50
feet(15m)awayfromheat,sparks,openflame,smok-

ignitionwhenfuelingunit.
Gasolinevaporisheavierthanair,andcantravelalong
thegroundtonearbysourcesofignitionsuchaselectri-
calmotors,pilotlights,andhotorrunningengines.
Vapors ignited by an ignition source can flash back to
thefuelcontainer,resultinginanexplosion,fire,serious
orfatalinjuries,andextensivepropertydamage.
Followtheseimportantsafetyprecautionstominimize
riskof explosion or fire:

containerwithtight-fittingcaps.
