ThisdocumentdefinestheEDW-ML8021 module series and describesthe hardware interface ofthe
EDW-ML8021 module that connectstothecustomer application and the hardware interface.
Thisdocumentcan helpcustomer quicklyunderstandmoduleinterface specifications,electrical
andmechanicaldetails. Withthe helpofthis document,associatedapplicationnotesanduser
guide,customercanuse EDW-ML8021 moduletodesign andset upmobile applications

2.Productconcept
TheEDW-ML8021 is aQuad-bandGSM/GPRS engine that worksatfrequencies
GSM850MHz, GSM900MHz, DCS 1800MHzandPCS1900MHz. TheEDW-ML8021 features
GPRS multi-slotclass 12andsupportstheGPRS coding schemes CS-1, CS-2,CS-3 andCS-4.
TheEDW-ML8021 is integrated withInternetservice protocols, whichare TCP/UDP, FTPandHTTP.
ExtendedATcommandshavebeendevelopedforcustomertousetheseInternetservice protocols
easily.

canbesenttothemodule2-3seconds afterthemoduleis poweredon.Hostcontrollershould
firstly sendan “AT”or “at”string in orderthatthemodulecandetectbaud rateofhost controller,
andit shouldsend thesecondorthethird “AT”or “at”stringuntilreceiving “OK”stringfrom
module.Ifyouneedtousingfixedbaud rate, Thenan “AT+IPR=x;&W”shouldbesentto
moduleand savetheconfigurationtoflashmemoryofmodule.After theseconfigurations,the
URC “RDY”wouldbereceivedfromtheSerialPortofmoduleeverytimewhenthemoduleis
poweredon. Refer toChapter “AT+IPR”inARcommandmanual.
