This document describes extensions to the Time Tailor Live system that provide the capability
to run a Time Tailor task from an automation system using general purpose interface (GPI)
triggers. See the Time Tailor Live tutorial for instructions on how to set up Time Tailor tasks.
Overview:
1. The external GPI control function requires that the Measurement Computing USB-1024LS and
supporting software drivers be installed and enabled on the Fastrack.
2. Each standard predefined Time Tailor Live job can be associated with one of 8 externally triggered
GPIs.
3. The Job Configuration dialog has a field with a drop-down list that allows assignment of input GPI 1
through 8.
4. If multiple jobs have the same GPI contact, that contact will trigger the first one in the list of jobs.
5. A “GPI Delay” value is provided to allow for a standard advance to be used on the controlling
automation system.
6. A GPI test capability is provided to confirm GPI functionality.
7. When using the GPI function to used start Time Tailor Live job, the “Activate” button should not be
enabled, nor should the Scheduling function be used to create multiple entries of the job.

The USB-1024LS has a physical capacity of 24 GPI I/O ports. As configured for the Time Tailor Fastrack, 8
ports are available to be assigned as inputs for external control of Fastrack by an automation system. These
8 ports are designated A0 through A7 and correspond to pins 21 through 28. A momentary pulse,
connecting any of these pins to ground will trigger the Fastrack’s predefined Time Tailor job associated with
that port. Any of the GND pins 9, 12, 15, 17, 19, 31 and 40 can be used. Pin 30, +5V is not used in the Time
Tailor application.

When the USB GPI device is connected and operational, this dialog provides visual confirmation when contacts are closed.
Each of the boxes labeled A0 through A7 and C0 through C3 will display a check mark as long as the contact remains closed.
The checkboxes at the bottom can be set by the user with a mouse [Click]. The checkboxes labeled A=IN and C 0-3=IN
should be checked, and the checkboxes labeled B=IN and C 4-7=IN should be unchecked.
The checkbox labeled USB GPI Enable should be checked, or the USB GPI function is disabled.
Other checkboxes are not applicable to the Time Tailor application.
The delay edit box allows the user set a delay between the GPI signal and the start of the job. The job is loaded immediately
at the signal, then waits the number of delay seconds before it is triggered. The delay time can be used to allow an operator
to cue VTRs if necessary. A DELAY CHANGE WILL NOT TAKE EFFECT UNTIL YOU PRESS THE SAVE BUTTON AND
RESTART FASTRACK.

The Countdown Timer
The Countdown Timer appears as soon as a job is triggered by a GPI. The counter is set with the Delay value from the GPI
Settings and Test dialog. If a GPI trigger is detected during the countdown, the job associated with the new trigger replaces
the currently loaded job and the countdown starts over.
[Click] on CANCEL AUTO START to cancel the countdown. The job stays loaded in case it is desired to start it manually.

The Defined Jobs list
The list of Defined Jobs can contain an unlimited number of entries. However, when using the GPI input signals to trigger
jobs, it is intended that there be up to 8 different predefined jobs corresponding to the 8 available GPI inputs. If there are
multiple jobs with the same GPI number, the first one in the list with that GPI number will be run when that GPI signal is
detected.
When a job is triggered by a GPI input, the Start Date and Time are automatically updated with the time the job is run.

When the countdown reaches
zero, the Countdown Timer
disappears and the Fastrack
Timeline starts. Events on the
tracks participating in the Time
Tailor job move to the left until the
job is completed.
Active Job display
The Status window at the screen lower left
displays relevant information as the job is
automatically set up and started.
