SAFETY
Owner’s responsibility
The user is responsible for the correct assembly and safe and proper use of the earth auger and
individual augers.
Read and follow the instruction manual.
Follow the assembly instructions carefully.
Maintain the machine carefully according to the service intervals and instructions in this manual.
Make sure that anyone who uses this earth auger is aware of the safety instructions.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read this section carefully.
Use the earth auger according to the safety instructions and recommendations described here.
Everyone who uses the earth auger must read the instructions and be familiar with its use.
This symbol indicates an important safety instruction which, if not followed,
may cause personal injury. Read and follow all the instructions in this manual
before using the earth auger.
- Do not carry the earth auger from one hole to another with the engine running.
Move the machine by lifting it by the frame with the auger pointing downwards.
- Always keep hands, feet, hair and loose clothing away from any moving parts on the earth
auger.
- Always wear ear defenders.
- Do not allow children to operate this earth auger. Do not allow anyone to use this earth
auger without proper instruction.
- Do not use this earth auger under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Keep all screws, nuts and bolts tight.
- Before repairing the machine, the engine must be off, cooled down with the spark plug
removed.
- The exhaust and the area around the exhaust can become hotter than 65°C. Avoid these
areas.
- Never start the engine indoors or in other enclosed areas. Engines give off carbon
monoxide, which is odourless and can cause death.
- If the earth auger stops: turn off the engine and allow it to cool down before removing it
manually.
- Use only Aspen 4 or euro 95. Do not mix oil and petrol.

Read these instructions and keep them in a safe place. Read the manual carefully before using the
earth auger. Protect yourself and others by following all the safety information, warnings and
precautionary measures. Failure to follow the instructions may result in personal injury and/or
damage to the machine or environment. The instructions must be kept with the machine.
PLEASE NOTE: The user of this machine must be aware that the auger may kick
back on contact with the ground. It is therefore important to hold the auger firmly
with both hands.
Petrol engine
Specific safety instructions
- Petrol and diesel engines must never be used in non-ventilated or confined spaces. The exhaust
fumes are very dangerous and can cause carbon monoxide poisoning leading to drowsiness and
ultimately death.
- The engine must not exceed the specified speed.
- Running the engine at excessive speeds can lead to danger or personal injury.
- Do not tamper with the components to change the speed.
- Do not leave the machine unattended with the engine running.
- Always use the correct fuel as specified in the manual.
- To prevent fire, turn off the engine when filling up with fuel and do not overfill.
- Clean up spilt fuel immediately with sand or absorbent granules.
- Do not use the machine in or near an explosive environment.
- Check the fuel system regularly for leaks.
- Check the machine’s oil level regularly.
- Seals and hoses must be checked for cracks.
- Check the fuel tank and fuel filler cap for loose or missing fastenings. All defects must be repaired
before further use.
- Make sure the engine does not run out of fuel.
- Drain all fuel from the machine before transport.
- Store the machine in a well-ventilated environment with an empty tank.
- For specific information regarding the Honda GX35 engine, please refer to the Honda owner’s
manual.

Earth auger
Specific safety instructions
- Before using the earth auger, the user must be familiar with the safety and operating instructions.
The earth auger should only be used by a trained person.
- Use the earth auger only in daylight or comparable artificial light.
- Start the earth auger carefully with your feet at a distance from the auger.
- Do not leave the machine unattended with the engine running.
- Do not use the earth auger without proper footwear. Always use the correct PPE.
- Use the earth auger only in soil, not in stone/rocky ground.
- Do not drill any holes where there may be pipelines in the ground. If necessary, notify the Dutch
Cables and Pipes Information Centre (KLIC).
- Make sure that the auger is properly attached to the machine. The auger is secured by the
original locking pin supplied, which is also secured, so that it is not possible for the auger to come
loose.
- Do not use a damaged or worn auger.
- Do not carry the earth auger with the engine running.
- The auger should not rotate when the engine is idling.
- Keep hands and feet away from a rotating earth auger.
- Make sure that the engine is off and the spark plug has been removed before making any
adjustments.
- Check before use if any parts are worn or damaged. Replace them if necessary.

Getting started
PLEASE NOTE! The machine may kick back when hitting hard surfaces or stones.
You must therefore hold the auger firmly with both hands.
Positioning an auger (Fig. 1)
PLEASE NOTE! Always switch off the engine when adjusting the machine, such as
changing an auger.
Remove the locking pin and place the auger on the output shaft of the machine. Make sure that the
locking pin can be inserted (Fig. 1) and replace the locking pin. Secure the locking pin.
Filling the engine with oil (Fig. 2)
PLEASE NOTE! The engine must be filled with oil before use.
Place the machine on its side with the throttle down.
Remove the dipstick from the engine, insert a funnel,
fill the sump with oil and replace the dipstick.
Please note the maximum filling level.

Fuelling (Fig.3)
The earth auger is driven by a 4-stroke engine. Only Aspen 4-stroke or euro unleaded petrol
should be used. The engine has a total tank capacity of 0.53 litres.

Filling the tank.
Use a suitable funnel to fill the tank without spilling any fuel.
Bear in mind that the fuel system is completely empty before first use and will have to be run in.
The engine will start once the fuel system has been filled. The machine will start more easily next
time.

Start the engine (Fig. 4 to Fig. 6)
Move the choke lever to the “ON” position.
(Fig. 4, orange arrow).

When starting from cold, press the transparent
ball 3 times to pump fuel into the carburettor.
(Fig. 4, yellow arrow).
Make sure that the ON/OFF switch is in the
“ON” position. (Fig. 5)

Hold the machine firmly with one hand. With
the other hand grip the pull starter. (Fig. 6)

Pull it out slowly until you feel resistance.
Without letting it retract, pull the starter handle
quickly. Let it return to its original position
slowly. Repeat until the engine is running.
When the engine is running well switch off the
choke.
Then squeeze the throttle (Fig. 7) and the
auger will begin to rotate. The harder the
throttle is squeezed, the faster the auger
rotates.
Release the throttle to stop the auger rotating.

Using the earth auger
You should use both hands to operate this
machine.
Make sure you know what objects are in the
ground, such as pipes or cables. If necessary,
notify the Dutch Cables and Pipes Information
Centre (KLIC).
Inspect the work environment before starting.
Remove any objects or debris that are in the
way.
If the auger hits a stone or hard ground it may
stop rotating and kick back. It is therefore
important to stand firm and hold the machine
securely.
Remove sand and debris from the auger and
check for damage before drilling a new hole.
Switch off the engine (Fig. 8)
Release the throttle and push the ON/OFF
switch to the “OFF” position. (Fig. 8)

Maintenance:
PLEASE NOTE: Make sure that the engine is switched off and the spark plug has
been removed before maintenance is carried out.
Always wear sturdy gloves when replacing drill points or blades as they can be very
sharp.
All rotating and moving parts should be regularly greased.
If the housing needs to be cleaned, do so with a soft cloth. Use only mild detergent, not alcohol,
petrol or other substances.
Do not use corrosive substances for cleaning plastic parts.
Spark plug (Fig. 9)
After 10 hours of use.
The spark plug must be removed after every 10 hours of use. Check the colour of the dirt on the
end of the spark plug, it should be a tan colour. Remove all the dirt with a wire brush.
Check the electrode gap and adjust if necessary.
The correct distance is 0.7 to 0.8 mm (Fig. 9).

Air filter (Fig. 10)
After 4 hours of use.
The air filter must be removed, checked and cleaned after every 4 hours of use.

Remove the air filter cover and take out the air filter. Clean the filter thoroughly with an
environmentally-friendly degreaser. When the filter has dried out again, moisten it a little with
engine oil. Squeeze the filter to remove any excess oil. Replace the filter and close the air filter
cover.
PLEASE NOTE! Never run the engine without the air filter.
Storage
If the earth auger is not being used or has to be stored for more than one month, follow the
procedure below.
1. Drain all fuel from the tank and carburettor; no fuel must be left in the system.
2. Remove the spark plug and pour approximately one tablespoon of oil in the spark plug gap. With
the ON/OFF switch to “OFF”, pull the pull starter a few times gently. Replace the spark plug and
pull the pull cord until you feel resistance. Then stop pulling.
3. Store the earth auger in a dry, well-ventilated place. Cover the machine so that no dust or other
dirt can accumulate in the machine.

Disposal instructions
Old petrol machinery can be recycled so you should not dispose of it with your household waste!
Please take the machine to the collection points provided (e.g. at your municipal waste treatment
site or local waste disposal site) at the end of its useful life.
