Your sailing yach represen s an inves men for you, and we herefore hope ha you will
follow our advice in order o pro ec i s value over ime.
To become fully acquain ed wi h your ELAN sailing yach , we sugges dedica ing adequa e
ime o carefully reading he owner’s manual and i s supplemen s.
In order o ob ain op imum performance from your ELAN sailing yach and o make he bes
use of i s advanced performance fea ures, as well as for your personal safe y, you should
carefully follow he ins ruc ions and s andards se for h in his manual.
The manual describes he full equipmen provided a he momen of prin ing. ELAN reserves
he righ o modify said equipmen wi hou prior no ifica ion and wi hou he obliga ion o
upgrade produc s already buil and/or sold.

users, boa ing is highly dependan on he wea her condi ions, he sea condi ions, he
experience and physical shape of he crew, e c. and one can never ensure full safe y.
This manual has been compiled o help you opera e your sailing yach wi h safe y and
pleasure. I con ains de ails of he sailing yach ; he equipmen supplied or fi ed, i s sys ems
and informa ion on i s opera ion and main enance. Please read i carefully, and familiarize
yourself wi h he sailing yach before using i .
If his is your firs sailing yach or you are changing o a ype of sailing yach you are no
familiar wi h, for your own comfor and safe y, please ensure ha you ob ain handling and
opera ing experience before assuming command of he sailing yach . Your dealer, na ional

2. WARRANTY CONDITIONS OF YOUR ELAN
GENERAL WARRANTY CONDITION
The warran y is valid for wo years, s ar ing o run from he da e of delivery and is s ric ly
limi ed, a he sole builder’s discre ion, o he free replacemen of repair of any par s which
have been recognized as being defec ive by i s echnical depar men s.
No indemni y wha soever shall be paid in connec ion here o. However by deroga ion a
wha is said above:
The warran y is limi ed o one year wi h respec o:
•boa s being used for professional purposes, including bu no limi ed o
char er, sailing schools, fishing or workboa s,
•boa s buil for compe i ion specifically when equipped and/or conceived for
racing,
•one-design boa s,
•par s ha rapidly de eriora e due o wear and ear, including bu no limi ed
o sails, running rigging ba eries, ex ernal decora ions, cushions, hull bo om
pro ec ion…,
Par s or accessories visibly bearing he rademark of ano her supplier only
benefi from he warran y provided by ha supplier.
The cos s of ranspor ing he boa or any defec ive par as well as any addi ional rela ed
cos s due o he impossibili y of using he boa and/or i s equipmen are o be borne
exclusively by he purchaser.
This warran y is only valid af er es ablishing and sending of all bellow documen s o ELAN QA
and AS Dep ., according o he condi ions specified on each of hem
hand over and commissioning cer ifica e,
con rol cer ifica e af er firs year of use,
Cos rela ed o handling, ranspor a ion, s anding, sailing for delivery, e c… wi h regards o
hese hand over and con rol are o be borne exclusively by he purchaser.
The applica ion of his warran y prolongs he warran y period for he sole par or accessory
hus repaired or exchanged, during a period equal o he necessary ime o perform he
warran y work only, provided ha said work necessi a es a leas 7 consecu ive days of
labour o be performed.
The following and po en ial consequences hereof are specifically excluded from he
warran y:
effec s of normal wear,
gel-coa fissures, cracks or discolora ion,
de eriora ion of par s ha were replaced by maladap ed par s, or from ano her
origin or which were modified or repaired, even par ly by a shop no au horized
by he builder,
damage resul ing from:

•non-observance of main enance recommenda ions as described in he book
remi ed wi h he boa , or non-compliance wi h he normal rules of boa
main enance,
•improper use, especially negligen , reckless, abusive or abnormal use,
•par icipa ion in compe i ions,
•negligence wi h regards o he use of pro ec ive measures when necessary,
•an acciden or disas er such as explosion, fire, s orm, ligh ning,
ranspor a ion, rio , hef or shock.
In order o be covered by he con rac ual warran ies se ou above, he purchaser / user of
he boa mus presen i s cer ifica e of origin and no ify his dis ribu or / seller of any
defec (s) in wri ing. No ifica ion mus be de ailed and precise and made wi hin 15 days from
he day he defec discovered. Upon receip of no ice from he purchaser / user, he
dis ribu or / seller shall hen have 8 days o no ify he builder. His failure o no ify he
builder wi hin 8 days shall resul in his liabili y for he consequences of his delay.
The dealers, agen s or re-sellers of he builder are no qualified o modify he above
described warran y bu are au horized, for heir own accoun and under heir sole
responsibili y, o gran o her warran ies ha would in no way be under he builder’s
responsibili y.
HULL DECK WARRANTY
The warran y is valid for 5 years agains any manufac uring defec which is recognized as
such by he builder’s echnical depar men s, and s ar s o run from he day he boa is pu
in o use or upon he las day of i s model year a he la es , ha is on Augus 31 of said year.
However, he warran y is limi ed o one year af er da e of firs handover for boa s:
•being used for professional purposes, including bu no limi ed o char er,
sailing schools, fishing or workboa s,
•boa s buil for compe i ion specifically when equipped and/or conceived for
racing,
•of one-design na ure.
The warran y is s ric ly limi ed o he free repair of above-men ioned manufac uring defec s,
ei her in he builder’s yards or by a repair shop or shipyard chosen by he builder. No
indemni y wha soever shall be paid in his respec .
Any even which affec s he s ruc ure of he boa and which is no he resul of a
manufac uring defec under warran y, which may or may no have qualified for a repara ion
of he hull and deck, will resul in he immedia e cancella ion of he warran y, wi hou
prejudice.
The cos s of ranspor a ion, as well as he possible cos s resul ing from he loss of use of he
boa will be en irely borne by he buyer.

3. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
3.1. DEGRESS OF DANGER
This manual used the following degrees of danger:
DANGER: Denotes that an extreme ntr ns c hazard ex sts wh ch would result n
h gh probab l ty of death or rreparable njury f proper precaut ons are
not taken.
WARNING: Denotes that a hazard ex sts wh ch can result n njury or death f proper
precaut ons are not taken.
CAUTION: Denotes a rem nder of safety pract ces or d rects attent on to unsafe
pract ces wh ch could result n personal njury or damage to the sa l ng
yacht or components.

3.3. LIABILITY OF THE OWNER/OPERATOR
Before sailing, he sailing yach owner/opera or should read his manual and familiarize
himself / herself wi h i s con en s, in par icular wi h all he warnings rela ing o safe use and
emergency procedures. I is he responsibili y of he owner o ensure ha , when sailing, he
sailing yach is equipped wi h all he (safe y) equipmen required under he law. The
owner/opera or shall also inform all he o her crew members abou he proper use of he
craf and equipmen and he emergency procedures.
3.4. FIRE PROTECTION AND ESCAPE PLAN
This sailing yach is equipped wi h por able fire ex inguishers of he following ex inguishing
capaci ies and a he following loca ions: (see Fig. 2)

•Inform members of he crew abou he loca ion and opera ion of he fire-figh ing
equipmen and he loca ion of he escape rou es.
•In case he fire in engine room use fire por hole loca ed on he companionway.
•Ensure ha he fire-figh ing equipmen is readily accessible when he craf is occupied.
WARNING: NEVER obs ruc passageways o exi s and ha ches.
NEVER obs ruc safe y con rols, e.g. fuel valves, gas valves, swi ches of
elec rical sys em.
NEVER obs ruc por able fire ex inguishers s owed in lockers.
NEVER leave he craf una ended when cooking appliances are in use.
NEVER use gas ligh in he craf .
DO NOT modify any of he craf ’s sys ems (especially elec rical, fuel and gas).
NEVER fill he fuel ank or replace gas bo les when he engine is running or
when cooking appliances are in use.
NEVER smoke while handling fuel or gas.
DO NOT fi free hanging cur ains or o her fabrics in he vicini y of or above
he cookers or o her open flame devices.
DO NOT s ore combus ible ma erial in he engine room.
3.5. PRE-DEPARTURE CHECK LIST
•Close he por ligh s and ha ches.
•Check he posi ion of all he inle /ou le seacocks in he hull.
•Open he engine cooling valve and close all he o her valves; do no forge o close hem
if hey are used during sailing.
•Swi ch on he main swi ches of he engine and o her users.
•Check if cooling wa er runs hrough he engine exhaus ; if no , check he wa er pump.
•Check if he bilges are clean and if he bilge pumps opera e properly.
•Check he naviga ions ligh s.
•Check he required safe y equipmen .
3.6. WATER INTAKE DURING SAILING
If during sailing you no ice wa er in he craf , s ay calm and immedia ely check if all he
seacocks are closed and urn on he bilge pumps. Use a manual bilge pump as well o pump
he wa er ou . Swi ch off he engine and close he engine cooling valve. Close he ank valves
as well. Try o find ou he cause of he leak as quickly as possible. If you fail o find ou he
cause and if he wa er level in he craf con inues o rise, s ar evacua ion procedures.
If you run aground while sailing, open he inspec ion covers in he saloon floor and
immedia ely check for any leaks a he keel screws. Through he s owage compar men
check he ins alla ion of he s eering wheel as well. In case of a leak, follow he direc ions in
he previous paragraph and have he sailing yach lif ed from wa er as soon as possible.

3.7.
CLOSING UP YOUR CRAFT AFTER SAILING CHECK LIST
1.
Close all inle /ou le seacocks in he hull.
2.
Turn off he elec rical sys em.
3. Turn off he gas valve on
he gas bo le.
4.
Swi ch on bilge pump (if au oma ic) and pump he bilge.
5.
Close all he por ligh s and ha ches.

4.2. DEFINITION OF DESIGN
ELAN E4 is designed and buil in conformi y wi h he requiremen s of he “A” ocean sailing”
design ca egory. The “A” ca egory sailing yach is designed and buil for sailing in waves up
o 7 m and winds up o 10 Beaufor , i.e. 55 kno s, 28 m/s or 100 km/h. I has o be sui able
for longer cruises, for ins ance ocean sailing as well as for coas sailing in he regions ha are
no pro ec ed agains winds and waves for several hundred miles.

- I is recommended ha he swimming ladder is placed on he af when
crew onboard during mooring and anchoring as well.
- Swimming ladder is a life saver and if in case somebody falls overboard,

CAUTION: Follow he ins ruc ions for he use supplied by he engine manufac urer,
especially wi h regards o he RPM and load of a new engine.
When shif ing from one gear o ano her via he idle posi ion, keep he
handle in he idle posi ion long enough for he engine o ro a e a he
minimum RPM.
Check he engine oil level.
When pu ing in he reverse, hold he s eering wheel firmly o avoid
breaking he s eering sys em.
Shu down he engine before opening he engine compar men . The
engine has ro a ing and moving par s ha can be dangerous.
Never swi ch he main engine swi ch or urn-key when engine is running.
Do no opera e he s ar er for more han 10 seconds a a ime. If he
engine does no s ar , wai for a leas 30 seconds before nex ry.
Each engine has i s cri ical RPM which is indica ed by an increase in engine
vibra ions. You should always avoid his speed.
