STEPS TO ADD SOLID STATE OSCILLATOR TO MODELS FBSV & FBl0J
1. Remove crystals, oscillator tubes and tube shields.
2. With the chassis in the drop down position remove the osc$~lator
sub -asse mblies, the variable capacitors (Cl/CIA) and resistors
R4, RS, R6, R7 and R9.
3. Mount the new oscillators using the hardware provided -- see the
drawing on page 3 -- note that the leads should be toward the
center.
4. Install the ground terminals removed earlier at the positions shown
in the schematic on page 4.

5. Connect the~ wires to the ground terminals as shown.
6. Connect the 22K/1W resistor supplied from pin 2 of the 1st amplifier
tube to the ground terminal.
7. Connect the output decoupling resistors to pin 2 of the 1st amplifier
tube.
8. Connect Ee -- the red leads -- to SW6, the oscillator se lect switch.
9. Connect the 18 volt zener diode and the 0.lMFD/l00V capacitor supplied
to SW6 -- see the schemat ic.
10. Carefully solder all connections .

11. Locate R:tJf - - the osc illator supply bleeder resistor -- and set the
tap
at approximately 300 ohms. (R~ is located behind the front panel). ·

12. Temporarily short Ml6 -- the oscillator current meter -- as it will
read off scale with the new oscillator.
13. Connect a meter from the supply side of SW6 to ground. Turn on the
Tx low voltage and check the potential at this point. It should be
18 volts -- ifAlower raise the tap on R54.

14. Check for proper operation of each osci llato r by activating SW6.
15. In normal operation the oscillator will draw about 30MA - - a resistor
can be shunted across Ml6, the oscillator current meter, to develop
a useful reference level.
