Paint
To ensure a long life span of the ELHO machines, also the colour and the coating
process of the manufacturing process conform to the highest international
requirements.
Even a good colour coat may become damaged or scratched, for example during
transport and operation. Properly coloured paint can easily be purchased from your
local hardware store, as mailing and transport of paint is limited, with very strict
safety rules.
It is easier to receive properly coloured paint if you use the following international
colour code when ordering the paint. The original coating is a polyurethane-based,
two-component industrial paint used for lorries, for examples. Also an alkyde-based
paint of a good quality can be used for repairing coating damage.

4. Safety instructions
Prior to using the machine, carefully read and follow the instruction manual and the instructions
on the machine.
The machine must only be used by a person who is familiar with its operation principle and the
content of the operation manual.
Keep children and unauthorized people at a safe distance from the machine.
Risk of stones being ejected at high speed by the mulcher rotor. For that reason, no one should
be allowed near the machine during operation. Make sure that all protective devices are
installed and in operating order.
Prior to connecting the PTO shaft to the tractor, make sure that no loose objects have been left
below or on top of the machine. Also make sure that no persons are standing closely in front of
or behind the machine when it is started.
All adjustment or service work must be carried out with the tractor engine stopped.
Never work below the machine, for example when changing chain, if the machine is supported
only by the tractor hydraulics
Make sure that no one stands in the danger zone when the machine is turning in transport or
operation mode.
The chain may continue rotating unloaded for as long as one minute after the power input has
been disengaged. Do not exit the tractor cab until the chain has stopped completely. Activate the
parking brake of the tractor.
The noise level of ELHO Side Chopper may exceed 87dB(A), especially when the machine is
used for clearing bushes. We recommend for the machine to be used with the tractor windows
closed.
With the window open, the noise level from ELHO Side Chopper may be as high as 80-
96dB(A) in the driver's seat, when the machine is operating.
Please check carefully that the lift cylinder valve is closed before transport on public roads.
Be observant when driving on a public road, because of the one-sided load of the tractor caused
by the machine and its high centre of gravity. Reduce the speed when turning and driving on a
rough surface. Risk of the tractor overturning. Always lock the main cylinder with the hand
valve before transport. Always follow local traffic instructions and regulations. This is
particularly important related to regulations regarding lighting and possible luminous warning
tags on the machine.

4.1 Safety signs on the machine
ELHO Side Chopper is equipped with guards and safety devices according to regulations. All
hazards have, however, been impossible to eliminate through design.
The machine has therefore been equipped with a number of warning tags, to highlight risks that
cannot be avoided in the design or by using guards.
This symbol urges you to stop the engine, turn off the power, remove the start key, and
read the instructions before removing the guard.
Wait until all rotating parts have stopped completely. The machine continues
rotating for several minutes after the tractor has been stopped.
This symbol indicates that you must not stand in the risk zone.
This tag urges you to keep a sufficient safety distance. Risk of stones being
ejected at high speed.
This sign reminds you never work under unlocked cutting head.
This tag reminds of the maximum PTO speed,
which is 540rpm.
This tag reminds you that the lifting cylinder hand valve must be closed prior to
transport driving.

5. Starting up a new machine
Caution is important when starting a new machine. Improper installation, operation or similar may
cause damage that is not covered by the machine warranty.
Check that the machine has been properly installed and that it has not been damaged during
transport.
ELHO Side Chopper Tornado is as standard delivered with the following drive shafts:
Primaryshaft: Bondioli 810686CE007001 equipped with ~1800Nm friction clutch
Secondary shaft: Bondioli 8G7T155FX014001
Or similar drive shaft of other brands.
Make sure that the PTO shaft between the machine and the tractor has the proper length, not to
allow the telescope profile to reach its bottom position when the machine is lifted. Also, make
sure that the telescope profile of the PTO shaft is well lubricated and does not become stuck.
Also make sure that it is not possible for the PTO shaft to hit the machine frame, when the
cutting device is brought to its extreme positions. Also consider situations where the hydraulic
top link and the 3-P linkage system are in their extreme positions.
Especially, make sure that the hydraulic hoses are installed in a way which allows the machine
to be freely moved up and down.
Before starting the machine, make sure that the oil level in the gear box is correct.
Before engaging the PTO, the machine must be turned to working position, at the side of the
tractor. Make sure that PTO rotation speed is correct (540rpm). No loose objects must be left
under or on top of the machine. Also make sure that no persons are standing closely in front of
or behind the machine when it is started.
If necessary, check and tighten all screws and nuts after a couple of hours of operation. This is
particularly important for the knife bolts. This is particularly important for the lid of the chain
rotor.

6. Assembly
The ELHO Side Chopper Tornado is normally delivered assembled.
7. Connection- and disconnection to the tractor
Attaching the machine to and detaching it
from the tractor must only be done with
the machine in working position, i.e. with
the cutting device against the ground.
.
7.1 Connecting
The machine is connected to the 3-p of the tractor
in a normal manner. Do not forget the limiters of
the lower link arms. Please note, that the top link
is normally connected to the oval slot to provide
a better freedom fort he cutter head.
Connect the drive shafts. Please do not forget to
connect the safety chains.
ELHO Side Chopper is equipped with quick
release connectors according ISO 5675 Please check that these will
fit your tractor OK.
It is possible, that the hydraulic connectors mechanically fit in, but
does not operate 100% together. The spring load of the end cones
might be different, and it can happen that the return connector
suddenly close at higher oil flow. This of course will create
problems and malfunctions and risk for damages.
7.2 Disconnecting
Lower the frame with the cutting head parallel to the ground. Ensure that the hydraulic hoses
are without pressure.
Disconnect the machine from the tractor. Do not forget the hydraulic hoses
Disconnect the drive shaft and place it in the foreseen support.

7.3 Lifting into transport position
Lift the machine free from ground.
Lift the cutting head into vertical position.
Swing the cutting head behind the tractor.
Note!
Close the valve B for transport!
Ensure the tractor has enough stability fort
he weight of the machine. Use front weights if
necessary.
Adapt always the transport speed to the actual
conditions. Take particular care on uneven roads.
To high drive speed can create high shock loads,
that even might create breakages not covered by
warranty.
Always follow local traffic instructions and regulations. This is particularly
important related to regulations regarding lighting and possible luminous warning
tags on the machine.
7.4 Bringing into work position
Please check carefully that nobody are in
danger area when the machine is lowered
into work position.
1. Open the valve B.
2. Lower the cutting head slowly to the ground.
3. The lift cylinder is single acting. If the cutting
head does not start to fold down due to left
inclined position of the tractor activate the
side movement shortly to initiate the fold
operation.

8. Adjustments
8.1 Cutting height
As the machine mainly is used
outside of cultivated fields the cutting
head normally is carried during work
by the 3-P linkage of the tractor there
normally are little need of adjustments
on the machine itself.
.
8.2 The safety device.
The safety device allow by hitting an obstacle
the cutting head can swing back and up.
The weight of the machine takes it back to work
position.
During work the machine must therefore always
be carried by the tractor.
.

13
9. Work with the machine
Putt he cutting head into horizontal position
before connecting the PTO. Check § 7.4.
Bringing into work position
The machine is intended for 540 rpm on the
PTO.
Use moderate drive speed
Although the machine is equipped with
protecting devices there is always a risk of
damages, in particular when the machine hit
obstacles or when foreign bodies (as stones)
enter the cutting head. In particular the knifes
and the rotor are at risk.
Use therefore always big enough cutting height to avoid contacts with stones. The machine is
normally carries in the 3-P linkage of the tractor and the support roller behind the cutting head
has to be seen only as an additional safety device to prevent the rotor to hit the ground.
Adapt the drive speed to the actual conditions. Take particular care by turning with lifted
machine. Roll over risk in particular by left corners and at slopes.
It is forbidden to cut with the cutting head in vertical position.
Ensure, that the PTO is disconnected and the
tractor motor is stopped, the parking brake is
applies, and that the knife rotor has fully stopped
before you leave the cabin. Note, that the chain
can unloaded continue to rotate for more than one minute
before it will Stop.

10. Maintenance
To ensure a long and trouble-free lifespan for your Side Chopper Tornado, it is important to
keep the machine clean and maintain it according to the instructions below.
10.1 Chain rotor
Check the condition of the chain and the chain rotor
regularly. If vibrations occure, check that the chains are
of equal length.
Check also the wear of the chain links in particular at
the mounting to the rotor. The minimum material
thickness should not be less than 10mm. See fig. Inside
the rotor there is spare length of chain. These chain
links can be feed out and equal amount of links cut of at
the external end of the chain. In this manner it is
possible to increase the lifetime of the chains. It is
essential that both chains always are of similar length
and are replaced at the same time to avoid vibrations.
Check also the bolts on the cover of the chain rotor.
Tension torque is 95-105 Nm. It is recommended that
the lock nut is replaced each time the chain is replaced.
Always use only ELHO original chain.
Check also that the chain rotor is free from cracking’s. Damaged or worn chain rotor must be
replaced without delay. It can not be repaired.
